It might share similarities to Zelda but Okami has other stuff to keep it feeling fresh.

Okami is a game that many might call a Zelda clone and you can probably see in some areas as to how but it has other things that keep it different to those games.

Story

A tale of 100 years ago of an evil called Orochi had been sealed but it has risen and willing to exact more terror than ever before. With the 15 powers sealed it's up to the dog Amaterasu to banish the evil.

Gameplay

As you probably would have guessed Okami is a free roaming Adventure game with puzzles, sidequests and certain magic. As you travel along yurt adventure you will be granted powers that help you progress through the story and later get to places you couldn't have before. For example some powers are like wind direction, slowing down time, making lily pads and being able to change day and night. You will get these when you see a constilation in the sky and you have to put dots that are missing in a certain area and you be granted that power to your brush. Your brush comes in very good use also you can use it to draw fishing lines and also make bridges and other stuff too.

You will also come across salesmen as well that are willing to sell you some stuff and you can also sell things like treasures that are hidden in chests throughout the environment. There are plenty of sidequests and will come in very good use for healing your equipment. Also remember to feed certain animals food if you have some because it builds up you stats.

The way you fight enemies is in a like a barrier and sometimes you have to go through gates to access them and restore a certain area from darkness. The combat is pretty basic really you can maybe just mash buttons for some enemies. You get stronger weapons throughout the story and you can switch your weapons at any point in the game as well as use items whenever you want in battle.

A problem that sometimes can happen is sometimes it can't make out what your drawing sometimes. I have had this with blossoming tress and it turning into a sun and the water sometimes doesn't sometimes services in a digging sidequest sometimes.

Presentation

I think the way Capcom captured the essence of the Japanese culture with the anime style. As well to go with a well excuted soundtrack and gorgeous graphics.

Lastability

It is along game 20 hours if you ignore some sidequests but if you are a perfectionist it could be between 30 or 40 hours.

Overall Opinion

Okami is a breath of fresh air and a work of art. The game still looks incredible with it's cartoony visuals and Japanese presentation. As well as a long quest as well to boot it's a no brainer. If you own a PS2 or Nintendo Wii you need to have this game in your collection.
