Great port of an awesome arcade game!

User Rating: 8.8 | Off Road Challenge N64
Off Road Challenge, like Cruisin USA and other arcade ports, loses some of it's essence when ported to the N64, but it keeps true to it's roots for the most part. The game is fun and challenging, and the multiplayer racing is always great.

The graphics in Off Road Challenge are about what you can expect on the N64, nothing spectacular visually. Definitely not of the same graphical breed as Perfect Dark and other advanced games. Of course, as with any game, it's not all about the graphics.

ORC does a good job keeping the racing from getting repetitive, the added jumps and sharp curves generally keep the driver on his or her toes. The AI is good as far as the N64 goes. The other racers will sometimes try to knock you off the road and get in your way to prevent you from winning.

Multiplayer is fun in these arcade ports, but as always, it's not as good as when sitting in the arcade side by side with the steering wheels and gear shifters. Some of the intensity is lost, but a good race will usually still result in a good time.

The sound effects in the game are good, the engines roar in a loud-and-proud fashion, turning up the speakers to hear the thunder of the engine brings lots of satisfaction to any racing enthusiast. The soundtrack is good as well, it doesn't get annoying or take away from the game at all; it actually enhances the experience like a good sound track should.

Overall I'd say this game is a good 8.5 or so on a 10 point scale. Definitely worth the going price of N64 games nowadays. Definitely recommended for hardcore arcade racing fans like myself.
