This is how remakes are supposed to made, New 'n' Tasty has a ton of surprises and fantastic visuals

User Rating: 8 | Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee - New 'n' Tasty PS3

When I first heard about Oddworld Inhabitants and Just Add Water teaming on making a remake of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee which was released back in 1997 for both PS1 and PC, seeing a fully HD remake on a classic game that was released nearly two decades you can really see how sharp and well detailed they have crafted into New 'n' Tasty.

For those who are new to the Oddworld series you play the role of Abe who was recently employee of the year and is also a slave just like his other fellow Mudokons working at RuptureFarms; but when the company slowly starts going out of business and pretty much wiping out the current species, but when you overhear Molluck's plan to his other business partners and employees to use the Mudokon slaves as meat products called Mudokon Pops, this frightens Abe and escapes. So it’s up to Abe to free his Mudokon friends from getting turned into lunch, if you've played the original you had to rescue 99 Mudokons but in New 'n' Tasty you can now rescue 299 Mudokons that's if you can rescue them all or just be cold hearted and kill your fellow Mudokons.

For a 2.5 dimensional platform game there is a lot to be said about New 'n' Tasty it does fix most of the problems that were in the original Abe's Oddysee, you can now speak to a whole group of Mudokons at once instead of speaking to one at a time and getting them across to a safe place you can now escort a while group to safety if you are careful. You can now quick-save at any time which can turn into a checkpoint to where you last saved whenever if comes to being randomly killed or easily made a mistake you can respawn back to the same place you last checkpoint which saves you a lot of time and effort going through the whole level all over again like in the original version Abe's Oddysee where you would have to solve the puzzle without messing it up.

The visuals and graphics really well done especially being it on the PlayStation 4 to begin but with this being a cross-buy title on PSN you can purchase it once and won't have to rebuy it again if you were wanting to play this game on your PlayStation 3 or PS Vita. Whichever version you pick it up on you'll get the other versions for free as long as you have a PSN account. Seeing the visuals on the PS3 are very impressive making it almost as good as the PS4 version can do when it comes to graphics and animation. I was surprised on how much detail has been put into this thanks to both Oddworld Inhabitants and Just Add Water, makes you think if they could possibly work on a remake of Abe's Exoddus which is very likely to happen at some point.

The CGI animated cutscenes make a return and also the best moments you'll see in this game making it feel like you’re watching a movie. The music make a great impact through the whole game even hearing all of the characters speak from Mudokons to enemies like the Sligs you can tell that New 'n' Tasty is almost perfect as the original version was when it was first released in 1997.

Clearing New 'n' Tasty can take you more than three to six hours depending on what difficulty you are playing it on either Easy, Normal or Hard but the real challenge is to rescue all Mudokons in the fastest the time because if you get the fastest time on any level or the whole game your time will be on the online ranking scoreboard. There are trophies as well if you are a trophy collector but don't rush through New 'n' Tasty whatever you do because not only it has a lot to offer in the remake but there are plenty of secrets to be found throughout the whole game.
