Balls of Fun

Odama, what an odd cover picture I must say.

This is a Japanese influenced game, not just in development, but in the style, the voices and the story. I believe it has to do something with your father has been killed and you, as the son, must avenge him with the mighty Odama! Yea, it's not the most unique, but whatever, it's pinball.

You boot up the game and you can choose to follow the ridiculously long introduction video. You get choices of playing, loading or options - basic stuff. Playing the game will throw you right into the first level. So you say, it's pinball - should be easy right? Well, there's more to it.

Yea, you get the flippers, but you have to put tilt into the game to get the ball to where you need to. Objectives range from hitting bosses with the ball to plain rushing the Nintenbell to the top.

Oh, you have troops fighting in this game. The odama will kill your guys too, so watch it. But you also have the Nintenbell that is carried by some dudes. You need to have them rush to the top. The only way is to overpower the enemy and scream on your mic.

Commands on the mic include, "fall back", "press forward" and many more. They add an interesting flair to the game. You clip this mic to your cube controller and press the X button to activate it.

There are also powerups to collect. The green stone will protect your troops from your odama and convert all enemies who touch it into your ranks. The rice ball distracts and clumps enemy forces. The clock... gives your more time and the heart, turns your bell white. When you hit your bell with the ball, your ball turns green. The area around the bell stuns enemy forces.

There are a dozen levels in this game, but it depends on your skill level. Some levels will require dozens of plays, while others can be beaten in the first go.

If you like pinball or want a casual play here and there, this game will do.
