"totally boring" "Not funny (atleast to me...)" "Was as suprised with reviewers scores as I was with animal crossing -_-
"quirky" and "funny" are words that popped up in most of these positive reviews, and there were so many of them that I made the mistake of thinking 'it must have SOMETHING...right??'
WRONG!
I played for about 6-7 hours, and after the first 10 minutes, I stopped having fun.
the humor:
I actually didn't realise alot of the attempts at humor were actually attempts at humor.. I have no problem with gore, or laughing about sensitive topics, but pretty much none of this game registered as funny. I've noticed reviewers make mention of things like 'when you save your game, your character goes to the toilet to do it' or.. 'the heroe is a total dweeb (actually reminds me of a kid i went to school with, he liked to masterbate & say dorky things alot' 'There were bosses who talked for unusually long amounts of time, perhaps an attempt to make fun of a cliche 'the self-absorbed I-use-too-many-lines badguy' I will cut you up blah blah blah''you can never stop me''my penis is bigger than your penis'.. I was bored and it felt like a bunch of geeks had come up with the scene & were trying to make him a serious badguy, but since people are calling this game funny, perhaps they meant to be deliberatly over-the-top, in which case it felt like it was trying to be funny, and the result is 'cheesy'. I think the humor might appeal to people who like to laugh at B-grade movies, because of how poor the acting is. Maybe that is the target audience with the humor. I can think of ways some of these concepts could be funny if the conviction is there, but I wasn't having a bite of this cheese.
Gameplay: Swinging your sabre is nothing too exciting, I prefer that in some of the old starwars games without a wii remote, but it was a bit different. I found after 5-10 minutes of it I didn't care anymore. I didn't like the look of anything I was killing, It all felt very generic. boring level design, with room after room containing same boring badguy after same boring badguy.. If you have a look at some of the negative reviews, you will notice alot of reviewers call this game shallow. If the humor doesn't impress you, then that leaves the gameplay, and the gameplay is not much fun. I wonder if most of the players that gave this a highscore found the game so humorous that they soldiered through all the gameplay just because they had to see what would happen next, not because the gameplay was fantastic (final fantasy 7 anyone? ...well ok, ff7 gameplay can get tedious but it is still a heck of alot more fun than this!)
After the initial scenes, you are allowed to explore the world map.
The world map = a big city. It doesn't look at all impressive, and the controls for your vehicle don't make travel any fun. You are sent to a place to find a job 'like those places the unemployed go to when they need work'. The jobs you're given are boring.. collect a bunch of coconuts in 'x' amount of time by knocking them out of the tree's then heaving them to a certain spot.. I guess they are like little minigames that non-gamers (casual gamers) might enjoy.. in which case they are much better off playing any of those simple games that are free & online.
Instead of these tedious jobs, you can alternatively advance the storyline by taking assasination missions, which = more boring rooms full of badguys after another boring room filled with badguys after another boring room filled with badguys.."
I've probably played over a thousand games in my lifetime, so I'm not your casual-gamer sort of critic. If you have too, stay away or rent this, because from a gaming perspective, this one has nothing to offer. I suggest renting due to the all this positive feedback the game is getting, and because maybe you will find the game amusing unlike I did, and that will drive you through all the tedious 'done this before' gameplay.
I rate the 6-7 hours i put into this game with a 6 out of 10. If I had to go higher or lower, I would go lower. This game didn't impress me in any way whatsoever.
