How do I get past Pikmin Adventure 18. Desparate Dash?

As soon as it starts, I'm chased by some monsters, and they fall into a hole. Then I can't do anything. Any ideas?

In one of the earlier missions, it tell you that you can jump as Olimar, but it's never really useful. Just do a quick slide with the stylus over Olimar to jump over some raised platforms to the right.

However, keep in mind that the rest of this mission is brutally difficult.
