Night Driver is about as stripped down a driving game can possibly be short of simply sitting in a chair, gripping an imaginary steering wheel, and making "motor" sounds with your mouth. To be fair, even arcade racing games in the late '70's were simple exercises in accident avoidance with graphics that only an acid casualty with buttload of Legos could dream up, so maybe dispensing with the scenery was a good idea. The only things to look at are the road markers, other cars' backsides, the occasional tree or house, and your car. Game-play can be summed up in three words: Don't hit anything. In fact, you are given 90 seconds to not hit anything with. How far you get is your score. The controls are basic, obviously they have to be considering that this game came out in the '70's. You use the paddle to move your car left and right, and the button is your gas. As bare-bones as Night Driver is, it's still worth noting that until the mid-'80's most driving games were just prettier versions of this game with the addition of a brake and in some cases a shifter. It's technically a classic, but not one worth revisiting very often.
