Before we even get into the review proper, I would like to let you know that no, you're not high. Or...maybe you're high, I don't know, there's a chance you're reading this and I don't know you so you might've gotten high today, so I'll say this instead: whether you're high or not, that's not impacting what the title says here. Yes, "Nicktoons MLB" was indeed a thing back in 2011. And it's exactly what it sounds like: characters from Nickelodeon shows like "SpongeBob SquarePants," "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and even "The Ren & Stimpy Show" share the baseball diamond with real MLB players such as Miguel Cabrera, Cliff Lee, Jason Heyward and Ryan Zimmerman (among many, many, many others). I know that sounds insane, but it was a real thing. And the crazy part...it wasn't a total trainwreck. In fact, it was actually kind of decent.

"Nicktoons MLB" is a simple, accessible baseball game: naturally, being meant for a young audience, the controls are simple and easy to get into. They're still rather fun, and the game can feel rewarding when you start to learn it well. It's also nice having such a wealth of characters to pick from, both in regards to Nicktoons characters and real MLB stars. And visually, the game isn't much to write home about, but being essentially a Nickelodeon-themed version of "The Bigs," it's got a decent look to it. It's not the deepest of games ever, but it's an arcade-styled baseball sim that is solid for a younger audience. The gameplay is fluid, and the turbo system is a very nice touch as well.

There are a few negatives that it suffers from, though. For starters, the Xbox 360 version is compatible with the Kinect, but the Kinect controls are absolutely terrible. No matter what, this is the kind of game where I have to recommend that you stick to the controller with it. And beyond that, the game doesn't have a whole lot to do: the modes are fairly basic and lack a lot of depth, meaning that it will get very repetitive after a while. It's already a simple game, and the lack of extra modes might make it one that you won't get the most mileage out of.

Overall, though, "Nicktoons MLB" is a weird game, but one that's still fun on its own. It's nothing special, and you might not get the most longevity out of it today (and given that the MLB players are all from 2011, as are some of the Nickelodeon characters, kids might wonder who in the world they're playing with), but if you can find it for a decent price, it's a solid little diversion.

Final rating: 6 out of 10 "Decent"
