This game is only Silent Hill by name. Two areas are set around Silent Hill but the name comes from the excellent tie ins with names and events of Silent Hill's past. Silent Hill 4 is about Henry Townshend who finds himself locked in his own apartment with no way of getting out until a hole opens up in his bathroom wall and thus the weird and not-so-wonderful events of Silent Hill 4 take place. Unlike the previous games we now have a first-person perspective when in Henry's apartment and the way it is laid out is very fresh and original and there are no problems playing this part, when in what is known as the "otherworld" it revert back to regular Silent Hill gaming although such elements like the torch and white noise radio have been removed but the game character is much easier to control and we are know able to charge up physical attacks to dish out real damage. The only problem in this game is when it comes to a point where you have a character following you around, Konami have broken the boundaries in brainless AI it is too bad for words. The graphics for this game are moody and sombre and possibly the best in the whole series it suits the game very well. The sound doesn't play such a major role in this game as the other and the lack of music aids the game by creating really tense on the edge gaming as you can hear every footstep and every noise made. This game unfortunately shorter in my opinion than any other Silent Hill although you can go back to see four different endings but the game is so mentally draining (because of all the history to take in) to complete you will need to rest up before tackling it all over again. This is a decent addition to the series and if number five is equally good you'll hear no complaints from me.
