All round good game with some cool additions and an almost complete roster.

It seems like I have been waiting forever for this years NHL games to hit the market. Must just be the fact that there actually is hockey now and the fact I kinda skipped out on last years games. This year I decided to pick up NHL 06 from EA Sports. The game is pretty good, what you would expect from the series. They tweak the gameplay this year, trying to go more sim then arcade and I think they did a good job. For example, Instead of an instant turbo boost this year, the player gradually speeds up when you hit turbo. The controls are good and the skill stick is a pretty smooth. They added the the wrap around shot this year which just looks awesome and is easy to control. Basically go behind the net pick which side you want to shot on, go towards and hit the shot button and your player will reach around for the shot. The animation for it looks amazing. Since we are on the topic of animations, lets talk about the graphics. There really is nothing new here to report. They have added some new goalie animations which are great and look a lot more fluid then previous years. Some of the player models just don't look right. This year they made bigger players actaully look bigger, but sometimes they just look odd. The sound is the same old same old. The anouncers are the same two from last year and they say most of the same things. They tend to repeat a lot of the commentary durring the breaks in the game. The arena sounds are good, butthe crowd tends to boo a little too much when you get scored on at home. All in all the game is pretty good, nothing spectacular, but it does the job and is still very addictive. Throw in XBL and the game has tons of replay value.
