Hard-hitting, bone-crushing action

User Rating: 7.9 | NFL Street PS2
The NFL is a fairly tough league in itself, but with the success of the NBA Street franchise, EA decided to go BIG and make the NFL even more hard-hitting than usual. NFL Street provides a good balance of hard-hitting action, stylish moves, and pass v. run strategy.

The NFL has been shrunk down to the most necessary players. Teams of seven matchup to take supremacy in either points or head to head style. You are equipped with a QB, RB, WR, DB, LB, OL, and DL. They play both sides of the ball, so you can think of it like your WR and RB will play DBs on defense and DB plays WR on offense.

The single player mode is NFL Challenge. This is where you go through the different divisions to compete at tasks and take down all of the division's squads. The tasks challenges provide prizes, such as development points and clothing. The Ladder Challenge puts you up against the teams in the division to a game of 36. You then challenge the division's elite squad.

The offensive side of the ball allows for the most creativitiy. You can throw no-look passes, run on walls, lateral as you are going down, and perform style taunts as you run to the endzone. On defense, the game is a little more normal. You can tackle, swat the ball, intercept, and slam tackle to force a fumble. If you get a gamebreaker, you can improve you stats on offense or improve you chances of a turnover on defense.

The game is solid in most respects, but the defense is very hard to control. A lot of the plays do not give you the time to make adjustments. You also cannot rely on your computer players to make plays for you that often, so you wind up giving major yardage to the other team.

It is a great game, but there is definitely room for improvement.
