Welcome my fellow gamers to the world of NFL Blitz Pro, which is not a very friendly world.
A world where collision detection doesn’t exist, and graphical glitches run rampant, yes this is truly the hardcore housing projects of gaming.
THIS GAME SUCKS. I’ve basically said everything that you need to know, but I will go on anyway.
It is hard to believe how badly Midway has screwed up with this title. I remember the good old days when NFL Blitz 2000 ruled the arcades, between games like NFL Blitz, Cruisin the world, and especially San Francisco Rush, and area 51. the late 90's arcade scene was ruled by Midway who was an unstoppable force industry... Oh good times indeed, well sh*t changes, and im thinkin that sh*t has really hit the fan at the midway offices after playing this craptastic game, now where to start.
Remember the loading screen from NFL Blitz 2000 where you could enter in cheats, before the game started, made you feel like you where in the arcade with your friends, even though you were having just a simple birthday party, you where dissing your friends, and telling them that your extra hits cheat is better that there big heads cheat. Sometimes you actually wanted longer loading times! That has been taken away, and replaced by a few a$$wipe announcers trying to hard to be funny, but not succeeding in a no cheat interface. Now sense the old NFL Blitz games were PS1, there were obviously no cheerleaders, and I didn’t care, cause to be honest with you pixilated booty I find weird, except for those DOA girls of course. But when im playing NFL Blitz Pro I am instantly scared, and feel like calling my mommy as soon as the closeup of the shemale pops up on the screen, I mean it shouldn’t bother me that much, but could they have at least made more than one cheerleader model, and could they make her not look like a man! I don’t know why they would try to make a football game that would appeal to the gay, with men dancing in cheerleader uniforms, but the did that in Pro.
The Season, and Franchise mode is a wreck, it’s the first football game I’ve ever played where it is a daunting task just trying to find the game that your team is scheduled for without simulating 3 weeks, and starting out with a losing record.
Now to the game play... ITS CRAP! I mean im not saying I could code a game, but im not in the game producing business its hard to tell if the developers had 10 thousand dollars to sepnd on the game, or were they just gaming idiots.
Now to the game play, what’s classic Blitz, hitting the guy 5 times before the play is over while hes still on the ground of course. Not in this game, you have to wait till the player gets up to hit him again (which almost never happens) and the players who get hit have literally 4 falling, and getting up animations fall one way, fall the other way, get hit in the middle, and get his helmet taken off. The collision detection is so bad that a lot of times when you try to hit someone after a play, especially on offence you run right through them, literally, like a ghost. The controller doesn’t vibrate with hits, and hitting someone, unlike previous instalments of blitz gives you no wuss doesn’t get up satisfaction, because the don’t even tackle them normal, they come up, and do some weird karate move that makes the opponent slide on the grass, yet besides the obvious lack of contact the wuss doesn’t get up, not allowing you to get another “hit” on them.
The graphics look ok at a distance, but when they show the players close up they pop in, and out making a lineman look like hes 150 pounds, for a second before he goes instantly back to his regular 300 pound self (repeat this until the camera zooms out) you may not even know what I just said, because you may have never experienced this horrible graphical glitch even in a PS1 game. But I must say with the 500+ games I have ever played I have only seen this one other time.
On the plus side it does boast some outstanding features, it has that newfangled invention called instant replay, its 3-D, and it has online... Wait you are telling me that these are all included features in any game made over the past 3 years. Im being sarcastic, what did you think that I have been under a rock for the past couple of years. Now I know why this game was on sale for $ 10.00 at Blockbuster, well you get what you pay for, but actually in this instance I don’t think this game is worth $10, not even two, because its frustrating, and no one plays a game to be frustrated, thats why im taking this game back, and telling them that it wont work on my PS2, and walking out like a cool cat $10 richer, and possibly a copy of Max Payne if its still there tomorrow.
If you buy this game after reading this full review, I have failed, and it makes me sad that you have wasted you hard earned money.
