Zumba Fitness franchise crosses 6 million sold

Majesco's sequel to dance exercise game crosses 1 million sold milestone, helping push publisher's bottom line into positive territory for full year.

In August 2011, Majesco announced that its Zumba Fitness franchise had sold 3 million units. Now, the publisher has revealed that in the five months following, the series has grown twice over.

As part of its latest financial report, Majesco announced that sales of the Zumba Fitness franchise have climbed to 6 million. The company also noted that Zumba Fitness 2--which went on sale in November--has sold 1 million units worldwide.

As for Majesco's business in total, for the company's fourth quarter ended October 31, 2011, the publisher's net revenues stood at $25.1 million, up 8 percent from the same period last year.

Majesco's net loss for its fourth quarter stood at $3.9 million, compared to a net loss of $1.5 million during the same period last year. According to the publisher, the quarter's net loss included a loss on "impairment of software development costs," as well as licensing fees it paid at $2.7 million.

For Majesco's full year 2011, the publisher's net revenues surged 66 percent over last year's haul to $125.3 million. For the year, Majesco recorded net income of $6.8 million, compared to a net loss of $1.0 million during the year prior.

this game would be awesome if u had a older sister who had friends over for a sleep over. then the next day they all were in the swimming pool. and when they came in you would say .. hey you all wanna play some zumba???

You know, I don't mind the whole fitness game craze. But in this instance, I just can't see how people can stomach listening to the selected music. Latin style music like salsa, merengue, samba, soca, etc., is some of the most puke inducing music one can listen to. I don't see how people can stand the torture.

Zumba is meant for a whole other audience, people should stop ragging on it. Nobody is forcing you guys to play it.

Zumba was a hot brand name in the past 12 months. I can't imagine it is sustainable. There will be a new workout which will supplant it soon enough. Happens every few years in fitness. Anyone remember "Spinning" classes? So they gotta print that money while they can!

@gatsbythepig That's because it's not a game. It's one of Satan's minions in his conquest of the general masses. Other minions are Farmville, Angry birds, etc.

One of the worst games out there. I had the displeasure of watching my mom zumba over the vacation. I couldn't even explain to her what was wrong with it, it was so bad. I think she enjoyed it though. So that's something.
