Yu-Gi-Oh! tourney throws down
Konami hosts the US leg of the card-playing competition; top five Americans travel to Tokyo for global final in August.
Konami today held the US Finals of this year's Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament. The competition aims to bring together 16 of the biggest Yu-Gi-Oh! fans from America to determine the best players in the country.
Qualifying participants bested the field by correctly answering questions online about the Yu-Gi-Oh! property, which has seen itself manifested as a card game, television series, movies, and loads of games on the Game Boy Advance, PlayStation 2, and other consoles. The top 14 competitors from this year's competition were joined by two top finalists from last year, bringing the number to 16.
The US finals, which took place today at Konami's offices in Redwood City, California, went head-to-head with Yu-Gi-Oh! 7Trials to Glory World Championship Tournament 2005 on the Game Boy Advance. The winner of the tournament will win a selection of Yu-Gi-Oh!-branded merchandise, and the top five earn spots in the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2005 Tournament in Tokyo this August 5-7.
