ESRB rating points to return of smart-aleck virtual quiz show on all three major consoles.
Gamers with fond memories of the 1990s will likely recall You Don't Know Jack, the trivia series published by Berkeley Systems. The quiz game was popular for its host's irreverent comments and insulting answers, so much so that it spawned a short-lived television series in 2001 hosted by Paul Ruebens (aka Pee-Wee Hermann).
Though You Don't Know Jack hasn't been seen in-game form since 2003, its return was revealed during the Electronic Entertainment Expo on the podcast of gaming blog Giant Bomb. In the podcast, actor Tim Gottlieb, who voices the game's smart-alecky host Cookie, said THQ would be publishing a new entry into the series.
Now, the Entertainment Software Ratings Board has posted a listing for a new version of the game, confirming it is coming to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. Though the Wii version of You Don't Know Jack will almost certainly be disc based, it is unclear whether the PS3 and 360 editions will be digitally distributed via Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. As for the game itself, the ESRB rated it T for Teen for "crude humor, drug reference, language, mild blood, and sexual themes."
According to the ESRB's extended content descriptor, the game will feature wisecracks about Tiger Woods' extramarital affairs, ecstasy and opium, and literal buckets of blood. It also features a fictitious television show centered on flatulence.
GameSpot will have more details on the new You Don't Know Jack as they become available.
There hasn't been trivia games like YDKJ before or since. This is like The Onion of trivia games. Epic win for JellyVision. I don't doubt that this will be a VERY limited pressing. I'm pre-ordering now.
I still have four versions of this game: YDKJ, YDKJ2, YDKJ3, and YDKJ: The Ride. Great series, glad it's getting resurrected. Hopefully they won't screw it up.
Great! I was always wondering why they made boring quiz games like Buzz while there were way better games like You Don't know Jack a decade ago.
I can see Tiger suing now and the game getting delayed. The game was good though, so it would be a nice addition on the PSN / XBL services. i wish M$ would bring back Links and MechAssault. Two great franchises not doing anything.
even better on the f u gibberish question trick is when the old man was brought out and starting rambling and not even make sense
Wow, i loved this game when I was younger. So awesome they are bringing it back.. I just hope it retains everything that made it so awesome in the 90s. The best part for us was typing in 'f*** you' on the question type that requires you to type in the answer (or maybe it was if you answered too quick). Then cookie would go into a 30 second profanity laden tirade about you and then put you many thousands of points into the negative and THEN change your name to something insulting. Pure win!
funny, all the people *****ing and moaning that this game sucks are obviously under 16 or so, YDKJ was a huge game series in the 90's, they took a trivia game an actually made it fun/funny. Please, if you're not interested, that's fine, but you don't need to post "I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS IS AND IT SUCKS" or "I THOUGHT THIS WAS ABOUT GAME X AND ITS NOT, YDKJ SUCKS"
What?! At first I thought from seeing the heading "Oh coool a new co-op FPS game" But trivia quiz game? Really? uberBORING. Can't wait for BullitStorm. At least you can blow s@#t up in that game.
Finally!!! I stumbled on to their web site only a month ago, they'd been doing weekly shows for a few years. Tim Gottlieb should still be Cookie. Paul Reubens blows. The short lived T.V. show did as well!! Theres only one Cookie! I cant wait to screw somebody! LOL!!!
Is this a new game where we try and figure out what the fuk Jack Thompson has been smoking all these years?
About damn time! @ green_dominator It's funny you say that Paul Reubens should do the voice. He was actually the host of the TV show based off the game in 1999. It... Didn't last long...
Glad to hear Cookie Masterson is still on board. Hope Guy Towers gets a cameo or his own segment also, those two were pretty much the best hosts of the YDKJ series. Hope they actually make use of the DVD-ROM disc space to deliver more questions than before. Series has only ever been on CD-ROMs before. (being it's multiplatform, odds are BluRay will have a good 16gb of wasted space on the PS3 release)
They should get Paul Reubens to do the voice of the host. He's a crazy guy, funny as hello..... Anyways, I'd go for this, You Don't Know Jack was a cool game, I'm glad it's back....
Awesome... I remember playing the games way back on pc. It had that perfect 90's mix of humor, useless infomation and demeaning remarks to those who answered incorrectly it was a very fun multiplayer game back then... bring on the Jack Attack!
heh nice but gamestop still has not covered my garden for the 3DS or reported about that Metal Gear Solid 3 is coming to the 3DS in 2011. bad!
Great news, I remember playing the online version of this with my sister all the time, we'd laugh so much. It was so great because even to this day it's really been the only trivia game to have such humor to it. Glad it's coming back!
A friend and I were just talking about how cool it would be if they made another one! This should be good XD
