Yoshiki Okamoto going mobile
Game Republic founder and former Capcom executive Yoshiki Okamoto produces new mobile gaming service.
TOKYO--Game Republic's Yoshiki Okamoto has been busy making games for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2, but console games aren't the only things that he's been working on. Japanese content provider Mobcast today announced that it has launched a new mobile phone game service named Mobgame, and it's fully produced under the direction of the former Capcom developer.
A variety of eight different games are available as of the service's launch today. Some of the titles are solid games, such as Night Head, a 3D adventure role-playing game that's based on the original novel and movie by Joji IIda. There are also more simple titles, like Monster Tennis and Ude Matcho, which is an arm-wrestling game.
But with Yoshiki Okamoto supervising the game service, there's bound to be a few titles that go beyond the imaginations of normal consumers. One such title is Hayauchi Gunman (Quickdraw Gunman), which is a game that's played by "quickdrawing" with the mobile phone, where participants flip the mobile phone open and press a button when the vibrator shakes as the sign to shoot. There's also a party game named Okamoto Yoshiki no Ousama-Game (Yoshiko Okamoto's King Game), which is designed for the enjoyment of up to 99 people.
Mobcast comments that the Okamoto-produced game service will continue to offer three to five new titles each month. The service will also feature a number of RPGs by famous creators during the year, which is something that mobile gamers in Japan should look forward to.
