Yoot Saito teases 3DS Seaman
Developer responds to fan request for updated online version of virtual life sim, responds that something along those lines can be expected.
When Yoot Saito's voice-recognizing life sim Seaman debuted on the Dreamcast 10 years ago, a microphone was such an unusual peripheral that Sega had to make one specifically for the game and bundle it with every copy. Now that microphones are standard features on handheld hardware, it appears that Saito's virtual life sim might be venturing into new environs.
Last night, the developer answered a fan's question on his Twitter account and teased a new Seaman-like project in the process. A follower of Saito's expressed a desire to see Seaman swimming on Nintendo's 3DS, with some online functionality along the lines of Nintendo's Flipnote Studio built in. (Flipnote allows users to create their own digital flipbook animations and share them online.) In his reply, Saito said he couldn't go into detail but added that it would be good for people to expect something along those lines.
The original Seaman release didn't overly impress critics when it debuted, but it managed to sell more than 550,000 copies in its first six months on sale. It was later ported to the PlayStation 2, and a full-fledged sequel was made for Sony's system in 2007. Neither PS2 game saw release outside of Japan.

HELL YES
that is.
wow i dont know the firts game, but watching the video, it look weird and creepy
I don't want no seaman on my DS screen.
Sweetness. I always thought the first game was.....weird. I have wondered since it came out if they would make another new one. This should be sweet and it would be an absolute PERFECT fit on 3DS. You can have him swimming around in 3D and everything. Sounds awesome to me. :D
3D seamen... Oh gawd! It's coming at my face :O
When I saw 'teases 3DS seaman' I thought of something completely different...
Seaman for the Dreamcast was fun. I'm glad to see this game again
Looks funny
I was picturing something completely different.
It's Sea-MAN!
At :36 seconds I see two bananas...
The Dreamcast Seaman game was actually some what fun. Hopefully this turns out good.
Does he try to headbutt eggman?
Wow.. I can't wait to see Seaman coming right at me!
one of those games that is unique and doesnt sell well.
AMAZING if true
what a horrible horrible name for a title lmao
Cool I would also like if Yoot Saito made a Odama sequal on the 3DS aswell.
Keep this game in japan.
although Sega's Dreamcast lived for a short time, the games are unforgettable & so special ... its been 10 years .. SEGA BRING BACK THE DREAMCAST GODDAMITT !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know whether to be excited or very afraid. I guess a little refreshed Seaman action is a decent thing, for those who are into that type of thing.
Sticky white stuff...
Definitely creepy. Will pass.
Freaking awesome! Seaman was a great Dreamcast game and I think it would work very well on the 3DS! Definitely would be cool to see some more Dreamcast games make the jump onto the 3DS. Toy Commander and Powerstone please!!!
"What it Seaman doing on the back of Tom Cruise?" & "Come along Swallow" were the first things I thought of when reading the article title.
looks creepy & disgusting!!! :?
all I can say about this game is just no
OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!! OH MY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what the flying FRUCK! is this?!?!?!? who knows what this game is!? does this exist on the very planet I am living on! WHAT PRODUCED THIS STRANGE CREATURE!
Hey guys , Japanese gamers always were freaky bunch :) so , but the game is freaking scary @_)
OR...the developer can come up with some new ideas. hmmm.
I.. I think I'm terrified.
Apparently I am very out of touch with the gaming community. I had no idea anyone was waiting for another Seaman game.
This game freaked me out. I mean what is this?
This game was so addicting, it was basically a virtual pet that had an attitude and a very good memory. I remember it would tell me stuff that I told it the day I had my first conversation with it. I would get a 3DS for this alone.
What The Hell is this ?!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just can't figure it out....it makes no sense or whatsoever !!!!
the main issue with that game was that you HAD TO check on the retarded fish ALL the fooking time! I mean you couldn't check on it in the morning then go to work, come home and check on it again cos it would just die, so theres literally no way of playing it unless you take 2 weeks off work!!

Man this game was weird. I had completely forgotten it. I still have my Dreamcast but I never thought to own this bad boy... I think mostly because the creature is hideous, and it is named Seaman. This looks like a cross between Tail of the Sun and Lost in Blue.
lolwut
OMG I WANT
Heheh. Seaman huh.
hehe, seamen
Missed out on the original Seaman and it's expensive to get online. I'd love a sequel.
Ok Japan, we know youre weird, you can stop.
Cool! Semen! Oh oops, I meant Seaman.
"Seaman and Swallow" anyone remembers them from some South Park episode? :D :D :D
Okay but what is it?
Might be worth watching. I never tried the original (did it even make it to the UK?). The potential is there though so hopefully this time they can impress the critics.
a seaman game for kinect would be better.
