Nintendo reveals Wii Japanese role-playing game dropping in North America in under two months with fan-chosen cover art.
Gamers eager to get their hands on Japanese role-playing game Xenoblade Chronicles now have a specific date to circle on their calendars: April 6.
Previously, the Wii-exclusive Xenoblade Chronicles was expected to arrive in North America sometime in April. In addition to announcing the game's release date, Nintendo revealed the title's cover art (at right), which was put up to a fan vote.
Xenoblade Chronicles is set in a fantasy universe where the robotic army of the Mechonis seeks to conquer the flesh-and-blood Bionis. With the help of two companions, players will traverse the world attempting to discover the truth behind a magic sword called the Monado.
Fans of Japanese role-playing games have enjoyed good news today, as not only was Xenoblade Chronicles dated for North America, but Nintendo also announced that The Last Story will arrive this summer on the Wii. Western releases of both titles were long in question.
Xenoblade Chronicles has already been released in Japan, Europe, and Australia. For more on the role-playing game, check out GameSpot's review.
@ zzamaro I was aware of that but the EB I was talking about is located on the mini-mall near my home. It may have merge with GameStop but the store there is still call EBGames and there's a GameStop just 65 miles south of that. Hopefully with the store still being call EBGames won't effect Xenoblade's release or are Nintendo only making the game exclusive to store with the GameStop brand name only? Another town in the suburb still had a store under its Funcoland brand name too. Will that one sell Xenoblade as well? As much as I want to get Xenoblade I don't want to go the 65 miles just to get it.
@mled Yeah I know, that's why I said it only makes sense to have a console exclusive right as you release a new console or a little after. I don't think many people will buy a Nintendo Wii with the Wii-U coming out soon. Xenosaga should be on all the consoles. It is almost pointless to release it exclusively on the Nintendo Wii when it is about to become a last gen console. Man, Nintendo is just absolutely terrible at making business decisions.
@emperiox In order to release them on PS3 + X360 they would probably have to re-create the graphics to be more appealing but that costs money. They could release it on xbox live and PS3 network as is. However the whole point of having exclusives is to try and force us to buy their consoles, products and remain faithful to one of them, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft believe they gain more by having exclusives, that way people like you and me (that enjoy videogames) are forced to be divided between games and consoles for their profit.
@mled Ah ok, pleasing their fans makes sense. However, from a business standpoint it would still be smarter to release it on the PS3 + X360.
@emperiox Every console has exclusives, that's why some people have different consoles, in the perfect world there would be only one console and all great games would be released there. But this isn't the perfect world. They're not expecting anyone to buy a Wii because of this game, they are releasing it to please people that already have a Wii, thus "operation rainfall".
@GamerNerdTalk You know, I actually heard that it was a really incredible game, but like you, I'm not going to buy a Nintendo Wii just for a single game no matter how good it is. Sadly I don't think that Nintendo has learned their lessons. They blame bad consoles sales on a bad game line-up, however that arguement only works when newer consoles are released. They can sit there and whine all they want, but it doesn't help because they aren't making changes to rectify their sales numbers. Furthermore, they are depending too much on console sales, rather then depending on games which they should be doing more of...alot more of.
@Gurzociurlo I mean hell, I'd buy 2 copies of Xenosaga if it was on the xbox360 and ps3. The reason I said it's harmful is because Nintendo has been losing a ridiculous amount of money lately. The top dogs have all taken paycuts, their console sales are just going down without stopping, and they had to reduce the price on the 3DS by like half. Nintendo needs all the money that it can get.
@Gurzociurlo Yes, in my opinion it is. I'm actually open to a reasonable debate on this subject though. Let me ask you something...if God of War and Uncharted were on the Xbox360 and Wii, how much money would the companies make? Likewise...I remember playing Xenosaga on the PS2, why wouldn't they release it on the Xbox360 + PS3? The very idea of console exclusives is really dumb. It's the same with Gears of War and Halo. They're free to do whatever of course, but why on earth would they want to lose out on sales? I mean the other Wii games aren't really appealing to me so I'm not going to buy a Wii just to play 1 game. It's basically metroid remakes, mario remakes, zelda remakes, etc. Also, it doesn't cost that much more money to convert a game to become a multi-platformer. So with that in mind, what is the point of console-exclusives?
The wait for Xenoblade is slowly but surely coming to an end. This will be a great game to begin my spring!
@Gurzociurlo wow ure right... i had so many preorders this month for so many consoles i totally forgot that my limited edition of the last story whould pop down in my mailbox tomorrow!:D
@metalkitten The Last Story should come out tomorrow in Europe, if I'm not mistaken. @emperiox "you wonder why you're having money trubles Nintendo" why then? Making exclusives is harmful in your opinion?
@emperiox Agreed, I want this game so bad, but I don't have a wii, but weirdly my grandparents do :P
Stop with the Wii exclusives. Seriously, just stop. Nobody is going to buy a Nintendo Wii just for this game. You wonder why you're having money troubles Nintendo...
btw i play this game with the procontroller - i have not tried playing it any other way but i still highly recomend playing it with a procontroler especially for camera and cause its just a better controller for a such a big rpg
its a great game im picking up the last story soon - luckely for u americans ull get that game too even though its not known how well it will sell in europe yet (but i bet many preordered like me) btw the fighting system is great and ure very much in control, u just need to learn how to play ff 12 and forward is an example of a bad fighting system xenoblade is the future oh and a vita is too small to make this game any justice - a ps3 on the other hand.... that would be really nice
NICE box art! It brings me back to the glory days of Playstation 1 J-RPGs... Really great game though! If you haven't played yet, it's def. worth the purchase.
I have played it, it is a good game, however I really disliked the battle system. It would of been one of my all time fav games if not for the battle system, it just felt like you were not in control.
Glad it's coming to America but would much rather play it on another console. I would probably rather play it on a Vita than a Wii aswell.
I remember reading in Game Informer that Skyward Sword would likely be the last game most players put into their Wiis. I can't help but smile at how wrong they were. At least for those of us paying attention. Xenoblade Chronicles on April 6 The Last Story this Summer and (for most this won't count, but I'm a fan) Mario Party 9 in March. Unless they announce the release of Pandora's Tower--or unlikely as it is, a port of Tales of Graces--in the next few months, I'd say THEN we can put our Wiis away for good. :)
I'll definitely be picking up this Xenoblade Chronicles as well as Last Story. Way to give the Wii some late-life love!
Wow, took them long enough. If you have a decent computer you could have played it in high def with AA and AS a while ago, way better than the console version.
Wow, Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story both announced for NA today. Now I really have to drag my Wii out.
It's not a JRPG, it's an RPG. If Xenoblade proves anything, it's that reviewers need to stop being lazy, and classify a game by what it is, not it's nationality.
