Xbox One will launch this year

Microsoft formally announces Xbox 360 successor during media event; will support live TV and Skype; features 500GB hard drive, 8GB RAM, Blu-ray drive; 64-bit architecture.
It's finally official. Microsoft formally announced the next Xbox today during a media briefing at its headquarters in Redmond, Washington. The next-generation platform is called Xbox One and will launch later this year alongside the PlayStation 4.
The Xbox One is said to boast an "all-in-one experience" and to that end, the platform will allow users to stream live television. Microsoft executive Yusuf Mehdi gave a live demo of the technology, which uses Kinect voice and gesture controls to manipulate onscreen actions.
In addition, Mehdi confirmed that the Xbox One will support Skype video calling.
The Xbox One boasts a 500GB hard drive, 8GB of RAM, a Blu-ray drive, 64-bit architecture, Wi-Fi, and USB 3.0, and is said to be "nearly silent."
Microsoft has also confirmed that players' current Xbox Live Gamertags, complete with all earned achievements, will transfer to the Xbox One.
GameSpot is in attendance at the presentation and will have more details on the next Xbox as information becomes available.

Some PC titles have struggled @ 2 - 3GM ram yet Xbox 360 512 ram didn't hamper it due to it's custom gfx chip which could be re-emphasised with resolution in mind so a lack of ram may not be so much of a bigger deal.

1 Like Eddie, I strongly suggest you to rename the article to "Xbox One will crash and burn this year". The word "launch" doesn't really fit here.
@Zeeksie @Branden_Lucero It's becoming more and more apparent that Sony is probably going to be charging for used game licensing as well, among other things. What it's really going to come down to is online services. I won't be going with the console maker that requires I have a premium account to access other shit that I have to pay for to use in the first place.
MS's licensing also sounds PC-level restrictive. I'm not even touching that shit.
@Zeeksie @Branden_Lucero PS3 almost crashed and burned and PSP vita is pretty much dead... I don't think Sony know anymore then what MS knows about what the gamers want...
I haven't had any kind of TV service since 2005 (and haven't missed a thing)! I'm so happy to see the Xbox One incorporate it so prominently! Its design make sense now: It looks like a successor to the TiVo Series 3! I'm sure you'll be able to DVR a bunch of TV shows on that 500GB hard drive! Microsoft: As an adult gamer who has very little free time for TV/games, you understand what I want most from my gaming devices: more TV!
I've changed my mind. I may get one after all. The idea of 'always online' and Kinect 'always on' have made me think I need to check one of those fetish sites for a 350+lb, 80 year old trany image to tape to the front of it.
I'm not saying MS is going all 'big brother' on us... but just to be sure, I need an image where anyone that does is going to need therapy afterward.
My problem is what about DLC you have already bought on XB Live for the 360? Moreover, this thing is not backwards compatible, so for the first time, I might buy a PS4 and keep my 360. IF I do it will be at lest 3 years before I touch an XB1. They had better come out with some emulsion software or they are going to lose millions of customers. I am NOT going to pay to have Sr Xbox and Jr sorry, not an option for me.
@obiken I waited 3 years each to finally get the Xbox 360 and PS3 systems (they originally released a year apart). It was the best decision I made this generation as I got better hardware revisions and a solid back catalog of established greatest hit games. Hopefully many other gamers will consider this buying strategy before jumping into this new generation of consoles. I won't be missing anything for a couple of years as there are still plenty of current gen games I have yet to play.
Also, 'emulsion' software would be awesome for the Xbox One!

@meatz666 From what Ive read is that you get way better gaming performance when you install the game directly to the HDD. Like you can cut load times in half
Watched 10 mins of the presentation and i was sold. However, with so many integration's i just hope the gaming side doesn't suffer. If that happens to be the case, I will end up using the ONE for media and PS4 for games. Cause no matter what, I'm so getting both consoles. Plus the ONE just looks so sexy.
the spects are really of no interest to me as long as the games look awesome and are a notch above what we have seen this gen then am good bring iy on MS
MS is way ahead of Sony they have specifics of what the hardware has and actual working models.
@hatieshorrer "hardware has": Sony released the specs. "actual working models": No running XBox was shown, and until more proof, while the dude was waving his arms, someone could be backstage changing stuff with a remote control
@meatz666 @hatieshorrer I wouldn't believe anything Sony does till it's released. Sony is all about smoke and mirrors...
1 Like well, I was laughing at all the "tv, tv, tv, sports, sports, CoD" video's on youtube, but the sad part is when I look at what my friends are doing (or were last doing) It was, "Watching Netflix, Playing FIFA, Playing Call of Duty". Seems like Microsoft decided to cater to their users, after all, they have access to all this data.
@McGregor lol true they have the actual stats of what we do on our x360 so they can ignor our comments that claims we do like all this things yet COD breaks sales record every year, LIVE subscribtions increase every year

Looks a bit like the failed Commodore CDTV, in both looks and description. From Wikipedia: "In common with the Philips CD-i and the 3DO, the CDTV was intended as an all-in-one home multimedia appliance that would play games, music, movies, and other interactive content." Hopefully the market has changed enough to be more accepting of this attempt.
@hadlee73 Why not, smartphones are intended to be "all-in-one [mobile] multimedia devices that [...] play games, music, movies, and other interactive content." Plus, they even take pictures, shoot video, function as voice recorders, calculators and calendars/planners, as well as internet browsers and about a dozen other things.
I forget... do mobile phones still actually function as telephones?

You can transfer current Xbox Live Gamertags, complete with all earned achievements to the Xbox One. oh woopie!!!! It would be fu&king nice if I can also transfer all my paid for digital download games to the xbox one so I can play them to!!!
