Team Deathmatch in the Beta is such BS. There is FAR too much spawncamping going on in that for it to be fun.
Microsoft's online space updated with trial for Epic Games' new shooter, XBLA sci-fi title; Games on Demand adds Fallout: New Vegas, Mafia II, and Lost Planet II.
Leading the charge this week is the beta for Epic Games' Gears of War 3. The sampler is now available for owners of the Bulletstorm Epic Edition and will open up to those who preordered at GameStop beginning April 25.
The beta will show off the game's Team Deathmatch mode playable on four maps: Thrashball, Checkout, Trenches, and Old Town. Additionally, gamers who play the Gears of War 3 beta will earn exclusive content that will be transferred to retail copies when the game is launched this fall. These items include the Flaming Gnasher Shotgun, a Gold-Plated Retro Lancer, a Thrashball Cole character variant, and others.
Debuting tomorrow on Xbox Live Arcade will be Section 8: Prejudice (1,200 Microsoft points, or $15). The game will feature online multiplayer modes with up to 32 players, as well as a four-player cooperative mode called Swarm. The game also makes concessions to offline gamers with a five-hour single-player campaign and full bot support, ensuring all the game modes can be experienced without going online.
Also hitting XBLA tomorrow will be The Fancy Pants Adventures (800 Microsoft points, or $10). An action-adventure game published by Electronic Arts, the title has players adventuring from left to right in a 2D world, stomping enemies along the way. The game also sports a multiplayer component, where up to four gamers can either compete against each other or work together.
Switching to the Games on Demand hub, Microsoft added three new games to that download space today, the first of which is the well-reviewed Fallout: New Vegas ($40). Also now out on the full-game space is 2K Czech's Mafia II ($30) and Capcom's Lost Planet 2 ($20).
Beta so far for Gears is pretty good. Much more balance among the weapons and the Shotguns don't appear to be as powerful as they were in the other two games. Don't get me wrong they still pack one hell of a punch but with the addition of the Retro Launcher and obvious increases in how powerful the lancers, pistols, and long range based weapons are it's not as bad. The maps they have in the beta are pretty well designed too in my opinion besides from Thrashball. I say that because it seems like every time I play King of the Hill on Thrashball it's dying a unlimited amount of times from kids you just killed who the game decided to spawn 2 feet behind you at the hill. That needs to be fixed badly.
@littleghostie i agree. theres games on other formats id love to play but money and time means i play the ones on my current console and enjoy it
PS3 owners should leave this thread and get on the one that says Socom 4 is terrible. Yea, that is what you guys should do.
Hahaha, console wars... Look PC vs. Console=$1,500 vs. $399. it's about customer base and you reach more buy selling cheaper. And Sony and Micro soft do give a $h!** and if all the CEO's could get more money buy combining products they would, but they can't so they compete. Get over it live in the real world and stop being disappointed. GW3! Ima spank your ### if I see you on it then you can cry about an an imbalance, so come get some.
@amerxenos76uk I can see how people only stick to one console. Money and time, two things in short supply.
Yeah, The beta is pretty neat XD and to those who are still on with the console war, guess what, Microsoft doesn't care, Sony doesn't care, Nintendo doesn't care, it's all in your fanboy heads.
all this anti-console nonsense is starting to sound like bigotry. but since this is the internet it's okay to talk to people in that way.
only people who moan about gears of war are playstation owners. i dont see how people who enjoy games can stick to one system. theres so many great games on all the current machines. i personally am really missing not being able to play the 3rd birthday on PSP. i have an xbox 360 and im playing whats available on that but there are loads of games id like to experience on another system. for example donkey kong and killzone 3
@Sigil-otaku The word "elitist" is the problem. I was a PC gamer and stopped. Because once you're on the inside then they turn on you. And it's not the CONSOLES anymore but people with outdated graphics cards or whatever that are holding back PC's. It's an angry competitive bunch, so watch out for that.
@PC-G4M3R for the most part it was a joke. I think it's cute that words like "consolized" are given validity by a gaming minority. Typically the attitude is we don't want your (insert anything), so it's funny when someone with PC in their name feels differently. Take it as sarcasm, not as a declaration of war.
@PC-G4M3R I never implied it were one or the other either but I just gave a reason why it won't happen. They tried with a very good port that was superior in most every way and PC gamers did the usual arrogant act of feeling entitled to the title right away so didn't buy it. It's simple, PC gamers (of which I am becoming having just got a good PC) are too finnicky and elitist for there own good. You want Gears, which is a fair enough comment, but look at the reality of the situation in that they gave PC gamers way more effort than most devs do and got nothing in return. Sadly it was the PC gamers who held back the devs in this case as Epic really did give a damn about PC gaming until they were shunned and now Gears is on the xbox only for xbox gamers.
lets face it people. People have and will always hate on Gears of War. You can't please everyone but I figure if you can please a few million people you must be doing something right. People who usually hate mp in a particular game cause you suck. When was the last time you saw someone complaining about mp when they are finishing near the top of the games leaderboards on a regular basis. Face it, some people need to get better skills or a faster internet connection.
I had my arm ripped off and was beaten to death with it today.... I loved every second of it. Gears 3 is going to be epic.........nothing like the sound of someone's head popping when you catch them with a shot gun..............
@Sigil-otaku @fadersdream @Viiper All I said was they should bring back GoW to the PC, I didn't say this should be taken away from the console kids. If I wanted to cause trouble I would have started talking about all the things Crytek and Lionhead have said about the console during the last two weeks but I didn't I am being civilized even though I hate my platform being held back.
I played the bata for a bit last night and it took me an hour just get the update for Bulletstorm and one for the GOW3 bata and for me just like Gears's 1 and 2 I don't like the MP at all so I'm glad I played the bata and I'm going to pass on GOW3 just because of the MP and I know what to expect from 3's story so I'll just wait to pick it up when it's on sale or something.
@k41m man the gearos of war 3 beta is up for the people who bought the Bulletstorm for the early access and then next anyone who pre-ordered GOW3 from EB game's/Gamestop.
So I take it my thumb down is for what, the fact that as of now the dedicated servers are down and its good old gears1&2 host. And what stating that the USB "trick" works. btw I have bulletstorm and did not use the usb trick. Reason three day ban after beta ends on xbl.
"The sampler is now available for owners of the Bulletstorm Epic Edition and will open up to those who preordered at GameStop beginning April 25." Or anyone with a USB stick.
I didn't think that it was possible for a game company to release a near perfect beta, but of all companies, Epic did it. Seriously the best 3rd person shooter multiplayer that I've ever played. Now, back to playing some more Gears 3. :D
@PC-G4M3R posted by someone with the name...lmao..."PC-G4M3R" keep on trolling. And leet speak is dead so stop it.
@PC-G4M3R oh you wouldn't want a "consolized" game on your precious PC. no, we'll carry that burden for you. We'll keep it for ourselves.
@PC-G4M3R Your kidding right? They made an epic port with all the animations being much smoother, I heard the campaign was almost 50% longer including fighting the Brumak for the first time and other stuff and it sold absolutely abysmally. They're not going to bother with PC after that charade.
@burnedandfrozen your assuming they have nothing else to do at E3. Last time (although it wasn't too much) they did come out with X-com and Codename Kingdoms so I assume they should have at least a few titles ready for surprising us this time too.
@Frame_Dragger Definetly check out FO:NV If you liked Fallout 3 you will love New Vegas. They brought in alot of the old crew from the Fallout 1 & 2 games and it shows. The FPS aspects were streamlined and aiming down the sights works more like we are all used too now. It is a great game.
April 25th can't come soon enough! I just hope there aren't any must-see hockey games on then too, then I'll be toast...
I might give Section 8 a go. 15 quid for more content than you'd see in many retail titles? Can't go wrong really.
