Xbox Live update adding news feed, music marketplace

Im glad I have an Xbox. Everyone should be happy with their console, I dont know why people love having arguments they can't win! Everyone has their opinion. We all like different things, I know ur happy with your console and you wanna believe it's the best, but GET OVER IT!

@Cwagmire21. My comment was just this. Every live show will always have some one out there to keep the crowd going. Fox, CNN, MSMBC and so on. I also see you that no idea what a new's reporter is. Beck is not a reporter at all and he tells every one that. Most of the news guys or girls on Fox, CNN or who ever is not a real reporter. Fox is for the most part is just what they see, feel, and think. How ever no one has be able to show any kind of fact that any one from Fox has lied. Now the Obama party wants to shut them down? For what? The truth? Kind of sad. Let's also not forget that one of Obama's buds talks about what they control the news. Yes, there is a video out there, and I seen it on CNN. Back to what my first comment was, Can we get Fox on XBL? and it was a joke because MS is every left. Think about it.. Gamespot owners left, MS left.. MS gets a lot of love from CNET who is left.

@Joevit Comparing a news organization whose intent is to report the news (the facts) to football/wrestling whose intent is pure entertainment is a horrendous comparison. Its people like you that believe the words/opinions of Olbermann and Beck are just as factual as the true reporters out there reporting the NEWS, the FACTS.

I don't know about them JUST become a social network. I agree more to the comment about replacing a home theatre system. Either way with the features being added, and of course upgraded hardware demand over time, no doubt that these systems will still be pc's. @gameweasl And i can't agree with you on the phone thing. Not that I don't do it myself. But I find it more proactve (don't know if i am using the right word here) using a ps3 + keyboard then using my samsung memoir 3g capable phone. Also to note I would even use the browser on my car system if I am outside having a smoke. So honestly there are many of ways to get online for quick action support. The thing is, you don't need to depend on your pc's browser that much these days if you just doing quick things like email checking. And that will suck if you can't use last.fm as you're fragging or beating up people in a game.

@ fionndruinne : Know what you talk about before posting things that are not true. The only government-run news network in Canada is CBC news (RadioCanada), and even they talk badly about the government, it's not like we're in Iran here where everything is censored and they only talk about good stuff about the government (believe me, CBC bashes A LOT on the government, even compared to the private news networks). And, if you say that Americans aren't self-centered, then how come all I heard on the American news during my visit to Florida was about American stuff, while back in Canada, I kept hearing of the German elections (and many more international things)?

The "news and more" channel sounds the most exciting to me, why are we just hearing about this now?

@kidvenom2001 I think the addition of facebook and twitter has to do with enhancing the whole online community that microsoft is doing real well. I don't use facebook and I only follow people on twitter, I don't tweet. When ever I need to check my mail real quick I just pick up Mytouch 3g phone which is excellent I'm always in touch with everything. I recall major nelson saying they probably will never put the IE on xbox which is fine. I see what Sony was doing by adding it they are making the PS3 the center piece of a home entertainment system. I can't wait till Sony adds a tivo function to it. I still wish Last.fm ran in the background. I play SFIV and I have a flash drive connected to my xbox full of music that CAN play in the background which keeps me pumped while I'm playing...

@hvac0120 knowing microsoft they have a lot of cards to play here. I don't think it would be wise of them to pull out every stop. It is almost certain that a few xbox's later that they WILL be pc's. Complete pc's. I have no doubt in my mind ms can pull it off now. But you gotta look at it in a different light. do they really need to and still distinguish themselves differently from a pc? I bet any microsoft app/program can be duplicated on the xbox hence increasing its featureset tenfold. I think what they are doing here is just riding the bandwagon of what the majority of people are doing these days little by little. And unfortunately facebook and twitter took off like a rocket so they believe it could be one step closer to the convenience factor of a console versus a pc.

None of the services added to the service motivate me to renew my Gold subscription on XBL. Microsoft has claimed that these features are being used to differentiate the Silver and Gold members. Twitter & Facebook? Is that really the "attack plan"? 1080p streaming is rumored to be available to Silver members too, so that's not even something to go Gold for. I think having Twitter and Facebook on Xbox 360 could be cool, but since I have already been doing these things on mobile phones and PC's for so long it doesn't even temp me. I hope Microsoft has some big plans with Natal and the 360 for 2010 because they sound like they're running out of fresh ideas. _

@gameweasl omfg One of the few people that has been constructive with me besides just throwing in thumbs down. You have a good point, but the variable you added was pc, which in itself has nothing to do with the psn or xbox live. My statement was very direct, because if you even attempt to look at the ps3 browser then you have some other reason besides the over qualified fact to go use your pc's browser. I agree pc browser is better then all. But in some peoples case the ps3 browser is ok. Need to check my email real quick without going upstairs where my monster quad core deluxe graphic eccentric bad ass super computer, then i have a nice browser on my ps3 to do that. I don't think the browser was put in to replace a pc. Hell I don't think any feature besides gaming was to replace a pc. It is all convenience. But with the ps3 at least sporting one to not fill its ui with channels is better then xbox live having a crap loud of channels and sub menu's. But to defend xbox, they have somehow made their ui functionality really user friendly. And with them constantly adding features to it only opens doors for others while not shutting some for others. Also as a side note, I can't see why anyone can complain about these new features. You already know if you don't like it don't use it. I may not care for any of these features. But I can't deny that I won't try them out. And may grow to like them.

@kidvenom2001 The browser on the PS3 sucks I could careless if the 360 had one thats what a PC is for. The thing that sucks about this update is that Last.fm can't play in the background. I will stick to my MP3 player...

Why do people argue which is better? I am glad there is competition, because it puts the pressure on both Sony and Microsoft to make their online components better. I am very happy with the changes made to an already great Live service in the past 12 months. Looking forward to more progress.

XBL is worth every penny of the $30/yr I pay. Flame on :D

I don't know about being better then psn. I mean they both adhere to different people, not by much, but I just don't see them equal. Xbox live is soooooo much different then psn it is not even funny. XBL has channels while psn has a browser. I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion. As for me, I like both of them. But what I will say is if xbox 360 comes out with a browser, then psn will be inferior. Oh I wasn't stating anything multi-play. I mean i want to separate this feature seeing as it is the devs fault if gaming online sucks. All systems have a tried and true good online playing game so I can't blame MS or Sony on that.

After this update XBL will finally be better than PSN ! YES ! Finally.

This is sounding like a really awesome update!

I love my zune. It does everything I need (It plays music and music videos). And guess what. I never had a problem with it. I just can't grasp why people think ipod is so much better. TBH zune is fine the way it is when it comes to features. I say build on them, but unfortunately they are trying to be like ipod....STOP MS....build on what you got now. Bottom line all these device's intent was to play music, music video, and some movies. Who cares that your ipod plays games. I got a psp, ds, xbox (both), ps (all of them), dreamcast, super nintendo, sega genesis, jaguar (yup i got one), nintendo, atari, saturn, pc. Should I actually care about ipod gaming? Application wise itunes store is huge. I will give you that. But everything i need from the ipod store I can do on my phone. So my interest level in ipod is zero. Not to be a fanboy, but I think almost all name branded mp3's are good, I just so happen to pick up a zune.

Welllllll zunes suck, so does msnbc and nbc but then so does fox which has the prize of being worse than all the aforementioned. Twitter can be fun, yay cartoons, and last.fm is 100% awesome which is like 300% good or 500% not sucking which is 1000000% better than fox.

Actually Fooltoast if anyone is being a fascist its the people in the White House. Just because FNC says or breaks a story against this administration doesn't mean the WH should come in and try to curb stop the free press. Thats fascism. Obviously you failed at history like so many others. I understand that MS just wants to bolster MSNBCs rating, which are in the tank btw, but I think if they actually started REPORTING instead of just trying to tell people how much Obama is the messiah their ratings might improve. I mean its no wonder FNC has better ratings than all those other shows COMBINED...tells ya who is actually doing their job imo.

There is no war between sony or Microsoft. Microsoft dominates the market in pc/consoles. Sony will loose the war in the future and quit the console market.

Twitter is dumb, Last.fm is cool, and Dilbert rules. MSNBC is better than nothing I guess but the news is all crap anyway. At least it's not fascist Foxnews. Hopefully it's faster than the PS3's slow @ss browser.

omg stop going on about fox news. Its the most biased news source ever. its called Entertainment!!! have you actually seen their show?? one newscaster waterboarded himself because he didn't believe it was all that bad. Yes, just about every news source is biased. but not that bad. why dont they bring in BBC, or PBS... they actually bring in people from both sides to discuss issues, and actual intellectuals too. They even get leaders, and not idiots who ramble like fox does (and msnbc) and dont call daily show biased. at least it doesn't consider itself a news source. I think they should just skip the whole news thing. Aren't we using the Xbox on the freakin' tv anyway? its not all that difficult its just publicity. However, facebook looks sweet, because its faster than a full internet browser.

cool i enjoy the last.fm. Hopefully this means I can listen to free internet radio while I play games ^_^ Facebook on xbox sounds kinda lame though..... Don't get me wrong I enjoy facebook as much as the next guy, but I don't see it being as enjoyable on a xbox. But time will tell. I guess as long as its free (well... included in the $50/year I'm already paying) I guess I'm not losing anything.

I love vf21x's comment, it made my day. I laughed so hard at the second class citizen argument. Oh by the way, your argument is extremely flawed for you can apply it to any service that costs money. Why pay money for cable TV when you can torrent it? Second of all, everyone needs to stop raging at the fact that Microsoft is including these updates. Don't like them? Don't use them. Anyway, to say that the Xbox only needs a web browser is to claim that everything only needs a web browser. All of the programs on my Android based phone are easily available through the web browser such as youtube, online games, account status viewing etc. so in theory if I have a data plan and a web browser I do not need any program. Of course, after 30 seconds of thought I'm pretty sure every single person will unanimously agree that my thinking is flawed. Well, everyone who is claiming that Microsoft only needs to include a web browser is basically thinking in the same flawed track. There is a difference between using a web browser and having these features integrated as part of the actual experience. If anything, only including a web browser is completely lazy on Sony's part.

@spag007 I agree with everything you say but BOTH Zune AND iTunes are crap :) how do you think the iPod got so popular? They had a MASSIVE advertising thing going on when it first launch, and up until recently when they released the touch/iPhone they were way overrated. Sorry but I'm an apple hater:), almost all their products are overrated.

There should be different news networks for different countries; I'm Canadian, I don't want some American news network, I want to know what goes on in my country (of course the others interest me as well, I'm not an American ignorant). And Microsoft can try to advertise that crap they call Zune all they want, I'm sticking with Itunes, thank you.
