New domain registration suggests Microsoft gearing up for major announcement.
Microsoft appears to be paving the way to announce the long-rumored Xbox 720. The domain name XboxEvent.com was registered yesterday by U.S. Techs, an event management company that recently rebranded itself Eventcore.
NeoGAF forum users point out that U.S. Techs was also behind past Xbox-related domains and Microsoft's 2013 Hosting Summit. The XboxEvent website does not currently resolve to anything official.
A Microsoft representative told GameSpot, “Microsoft often acquires various domain names as part of its ongoing business strategy, but beyond that we have no comment.”
This news comes during the same week that competitor Sony announced the PlayStation 4 and on the same day that multiple reports suggested Microsoft will hold a media event in April to announce the Xbox 720.
Microsoft has yet to talk publicly about its next-generation plans, but past reports suggested the device will ship this holiday season, require a constant Internet connection, and possibly begin at $299.
To all the people bitching about a constant internet connection, if you cannot afford internet, maybe a $400 xbox isn't a smart decision. I will get hate for this but its true.
@CptYoutube Maybe you are right, but for me that is not the case. Obviously we have Internet, though we are at the end of the world, and the connection is not stable. so what happens when the connection drops ;)
its clearly going to be Blu Ray as HDDVD is dead. 4GB-8GB maybe but is not needed especially when the architecture will be changed like the ps4 have done. it should use Skype really as its Microsoft now for chat.
the Game score issue is interesting and i hope they have sense to see that it should be transferred over but may not be. just hope you get better value for money from the online service.
What the hey!? New Xbox will require a constant Internet connection... great to be dependent on your internet/phone provider to be able to play your games... might need to get myself a PS4 than!
@Zoeper Then get a PS4 and be shocked when it requires the same thing or something worse (like registering your game for a single console use), both companies are going to be using some extreme measures to make these consoles extremely difficult to play pirated software on. I'm more curious than anything about how far they go.
@captianash true, but just maybe they will start including commercial breaks in games...
And... I actually don't want to get a Playstation!
@Zoeper well that is a rumour so until confirmed it is false
@jtthegame316 you're right there... but I can expect that they will do something STUPID like that...
@Zoeper yea they want total control f that if ps4 doesnt need it to sony goes the victory
I 'm sick of MS charging the Xbox Live fees just to use apps. You already have to spend money on apps so why pay MS for the right to spend money on apps?
Not to mention if you say something someone doesn't like and enough people report you they'll ban you and you lose access to all the things you've paid for.
@Rayzakk None of you have a Xbox i suppose!
The number of reports doesnt lead to bans automatically. The number of reports make only the PET staff acting.Acting in join games this reported person plays and listen and watch what he/she is doing.
Then the ban will occur.
@Rayzakk LOL Social Networking Preacher FAIL! FYI, you're paying for a service with rules and a code of conduct. Your "free speech right" to condemn gays, bar runners, and drug users doesn't make you invulnerable to being banned. We all have the freedom to curse and voice our opinions in the US but that doesn't mean M$ has to let you do the same with their service.
I would've banned you too if it were my service to keep it family friendly for everyone. Sure its your opinion, that's cool and all. I don't want to take away your beliefs. But when you publicly make people feel insecure even on your own bio that people other than you could see, it serves you right to be banned. Save that stuff for church or a Family Values Radio show where its more acceptable.
@Rayzakk They havent banned you right away! Unless you give here the exact text of your profile i doubt your bio was harmless to others. If your bio was offending the PET deleted your bio leaving "Code of Conduct" as a small warning. If you repeated to input your text again(or something else provokative or offending) 2 or 3 times, then they ban your account.
@sladakrobot@RayzakkAnd you actually believe what MS says with not experience to back it up. My profile stated that I felt homosexuality, drug users, and bar runners were commiting a sin and was banned for it when I've had the same profile for at least a year and it took that long for them to take offense to it. I don't buy that because I've had many people that I have blocked that took exception to that. Either it's hit a limit of some number of complaints or it found the attention of some overly sensitive part of the enforcement team. Regardless it's a stupid reason to be able to remove my access to hundred of dollars of games and movies that I have paid for because they didn't like my profile that no one even has to look at. In effect your usage of one part of the service can cause you everything regardless of how much you have invested. I know you love MS and defend them all you want but they don't care about you, me, or anyone else and I doubt PSN would be much different but at least I'm not paying a yearly fee for them to steal from me if even for a few days.
@Rayzakk I proved you wrong already few comments above. Or just go to the xbox-forums and read how the complaints work.
@Rayzakk Then prove me wrong.
@Rayzakk Ok,i take that back that you dont own a X360...i have to believe you on that.Yet,your comment about "bans" is incorrect.
I am a X360 gamer only.
LOL You've not looked at my fuse profile if you can make the statement that I don't have an xbox. Sorry to burst your fanboy bubble. I hate MS just the same and wish I hadn't paid for this latest year of XBL and I will make certain that I don't buy the next one or the next PS with the way it's going the social route. Oh btw I have a ps3 too which is also in my fuse.

As much as I love sony more than Microsoft, you do realize the thing about the next xbox blocking used games was just a rumor, right? The PS4 even had the same rumor about it.
@Rennar Ya since PS4 will not be blocking used games, I think it's safe to say (I hope anyway), that the next Xbox will not be blocking used games too. It would be very poor choice if they do.
Heres' the actual article from Edge for backup: http://www.edge-online.com/news/the-next-xbox-always-online-no-second-hand-games-50gb-blu-ray-discs-and-new-kinect/ ("It is believed" does not mean confirmed)
LOL I'd believe anything on MS these days. I was banned because my profile said homosexuality was a sin lol and never once said it aloud. Don't like it don't read it. Anyway MS will do anything it thinks will curry favor and get them a few bucks.
@Rennar While I'm sure there are lots of people that will give them the benefit of the doubt or completely disregard this rumor, this is Microsoft we are talking about and its all too easy to assume they will do whats best for their profits over the gamers (and there is no shortage of people on gamespot that will do this). If blocking used games does lead to more money coming in (which in theory it can) then there will be people who believe it will happen right up until the 720 is released, and probably beyond its release as well...
If the next Xbox will play my library of 360 games and all of the games, add-ons, and achievements I've gotten on Live, I will absolutely buy it. If not, I'm going to sit this generation of systems out. Opted out of the PS4 already.
@Defender1978 dude just don't sell your current gen console! why do you people always complain about even small features. I am pretty sure you will buy it.
@kokoalea @Defender1978 I am keeping my current console. I'm not upgrading to a new Playstation that won't play last gen games and support games I've bought on PSN. My PS3 plays PS1 and PS2 games. My brand new PC plays games I bought 10 years ago just fine. My blu-ray player plays my dvds. The problem here isn't that Sony can't do it. It's that Sony knows most gamers feel the way you do. I am the consumer. It's my money and I'm keeping it this time around. If Xbox pulls this crap, I will sit out this console generation. I complain because Sony needs to remember that the consumer is the boss.
after seeing the Sony meeting, I'm very intrigued by PS4. I love the focus on GAMES and how we play them, and how we interact with each other in regard to games, and how we experience them. I love the graphical power we are seeing from the PS4 as well...looks to me like it's a match against any top high-end gaming PC rig today.
For Microsoft to win me over again this gen (i own a 360, but that was a tough choice) they will need:
A significantly more inexpensive gold service....I play games online sometimes, but after my subscription ran out 2 years ago i didn't renew it because i just felt like $60 was too much for how little I played online...but now i don't even have the option. Maybe create a middle-ground XBL service for ppl that play online sometimes but not as often as gold players, with a limited "online play" function..think data packages for smart phones. cap the amount the player can go online in a month. or they could just give silver members the ability to play online a certain number of hours a month or something at the very least...
Next gen graphics: at least on par to what the ps4 demonstrated, this is expected.
NOT always online - worldwide internet infrastructure is not ready for this.
Social features - take a cue from Sony & Nintendo, don't worry about copying. Also, can I just say that Nintendo did this first with Miiverse, and I think Miiverse, if given the video capturing abilities of the PS4, would be the best service due to it's strict gaming only platform...i.e. it's not facebook or twitter you are connecting to a la PS4.
Price - needs to start no higher than $350 for me. Sorry, but if the next xbox and ps4 cost $450-500 to start, and Wii U drops down to $250-$300, Nintendo will have that large price advantage again like this last gen. I do plan on buying a Wii U eventually, in addition to either the next xbox or ps4.
Kinect - needs to not be forced. I have no interest in kinect whatsoever and it will be a turn off if i'm forced to use it in games.
Backwards compatibility - I own xbox and xbox 360, so this is important for me to be able to play those games without having to pay for them again. But streaming/downloading a back catalog would be useful bc there are games I've never gotten to play that I do want to.
And Microsoft needs more exclusives than Gears and Halo. I don't play either. Honestly, because of Sony's exclusives and their history of not charging for PSN, in addition to this streaming ability (never owned a PS2 or PS3 so that would be fun for me) I'm already leaning toward PS4, simply for something refreshing and new.
Microsoft would really have to wow me and incorporate all I said in order to win me over again. It'll be a waiting game for me to find out more about both systems. And to be honest I don't even know what would wow me...Also hope there are no RRoD this gen.
@punkdsk8erdude You really can't compare a Wii-U to Xbox. Wii plays in standard definition (480p) therefore the graphic components are not nearly as complex and/or expensive, thus reducing the price. The Xbox will no doubt start at around $400 due to the graphics capability. Rumors are going around that the base model will actually be $400. We will have to wait and see but I hope a $50 dollar difference will not turn you away, especially towards a Wii. Also, a Kinect will never be NECESSARY to play. Just unplug the damn thing.
@punkdsk8erdude Just read that the PS4 will not be backwards compatible. They said it was in the conference, but I am not 100% sure.
@punkdsk8erdude Its way off High end PC graphics mate and if you can't see that then you're just kidding yourself
@punkdsk8erdude Quot love the graphical power we are seeing from the PS4 as well...looks to me like it's a match against any top high-end gaming PC rig today. Um your wrong on that no way is it up to that point it still no even close to the 7870's or the 660's more like 6670 which is very old these days.
@demonkingx5 @punkdsk8erdude Really? To be honest I thought the graphics were pretty disappointing in comparison to a high end PC (and I'm not a PC fanboy, I prefer consoles over a PC, but I enjoy both). I got the Crysis 3 demo on the 360 and it didn't look much worse than Killzone: Shadow Fall imo. I'm sure it runs better, but as far as graphics I'm not blown away yet.
@Oozyrat Really your not a PC fanboy that made me sad :( your not a fan of yourself. also crysis 3 is trash on consoles in my opinion less than 30 FPS while in 1280x720 with little AA is bad i downloaded it o PS3 after playing the PC version i wasn't too surprised time to upgrade the plastics again.
I'd like to see Microsoft do a similar "history of Xbox" thing like Sony did with the PlayStation brand. I loved their original box (that huge black-and-green brick that could crush a skull lol). I suppose they won't though because they would not want to be seen as copying what Sony are doing.
they need to get rid of gold membership what turned off a lot of consumers like myself & to stop wasting their 1st party talents like RARE halo is not gonna carry you & gears will certainly won't need way more exclusives cause as of 2013 you only have 1 & with the gears 3 sells not being as good i don't see it selling consoles that & call of duty 1st month early DLC won't either . in my opinion xboxlive gold is a waste of money period
@demonkingx5 There is talk that Sony plans to do the same with the PS4's online service or something similar, just saying
@LPDisturbedHU & its not about that its about online being free i play on PC where online is free for my games. I don't need to pay anyone to play co op in borderlands 2 on PC as example while 360 you need to pay microsoft to do so.
@COLDFIRE25 Quot Your not just paying to play, your paying for the experience. I'm paying to have Ads on my dash board that's about it. everything Live have. PC offers it more & free so stop defending your purchase of live & start demanding free online like the others which it gives to its consumers free
