Xbox 360 getting tablet features at E3 - Report

There's obviously some copying of Nintendo's Wii U going on here, but there's also some copying from Apple too.

Microsoft is finally starting to see all their different offerings as part of one universe, and they're trying to make sure that everything -- desktop PCs, mobile phones, tablets, and XBOX 360 -- can be interconnected within the Microsoft ecosystem.  Granted, if they had done this earlier, we wouldn't be talking about Apple in the way that we do.

To be honest, this has been one of Sony's biggest failings as well.  They have televisions, radios, game systems, and music and movie studios, but they haven't always worked together.  Up until recently, there hasn't been any advantage to watching a Sony movie on a Sony TV, and even now, the advantages are largely undone by all the DRM and restrictions that Sony places on their content.  If I rent a movie from the PlayStation store, why can't I watch it on my Bravia TV, PS3, PSP or PS Vita?

Anyways, I suspect that going forward, everything that Microsoft does will link to something that they're already doing.  And it will be all Metro all the time.

360 needs to stop copying ideas from wiiu

The short sighted comments all over this article realize surprise me.

Everybody here should check out the latest on Windows 8; this isn't actually that surprising a move for Microsoft. This no doubt is going to tie into tablet-desktop dynamic going on there.

Gimmick after gimmick... Why can't companies see that gamers dont need these junks, we need real games. This generation is riddled with failed gimmicks and crappy games. Remember the ps2 days when all we had were the console, the controllers and great games?

Wow, talk about a crap idea. Not blatantly copying Nintendo's tablet at all. The only hope i can have is that they wont pull some crap like you NEED this piece of junk to play games with. I already HATE the current Kinect trash, all we need is more useless items.

I already have Xfinity and HBOGO apps for my iPad, so.....

Windows 8? Microsoft have been eyeing tablets for quite some time ever since Apple gained serious ground in mobile OS. Nintendo influenced their entry motion control, but this? I don't see the resemblance other than the word "tablet" 

These guys @Microsoft just sit quietly waiting for Nintendo's Ideas to copy...

buying an addon to be able to do this stuff seems a little pointless with the next gen not that far away (depending on its price)

but being able to use my iphone to do it is quite interesting

I think this will be an I-pad with microsoft labled on it instead. I think it's a good idea, i mean who doesn't want a device which you can work and play games on.

this reminds me of Sega with the Genasis, instead of releasing a new system ther only adding on whats popular.

I guess it's nice to have that as an optional item. I wonder what Nintendo will think of this...

if its their first entry in the tablet space well good for them, if its another 360 peripheral well... its abit too late for that why not release it with nexbox instead, im sure its "cool" and all but we all know this gen is going away soon, why add another add-on just give us more games and do any major hardware releases with the nexbox

Flat out stupid idea, i will watch the live video feed, and im 100% sure without a doubt i will watch it and think that the tablet will just be another gimmick. Don't even see why anyone would want this even if its just an app and not a whole separate brand new tablet. if it is a brand new tablet well then if you buy it you are a complete idiot, especially if you are one of the people that complained about the PS3 costing a lot a launch. If they do this a new app would be the only smart way to go and it would have to be free or dirt cheap. non the less I stand to my first point, this is a stupid idea. 

Funny how when Apple does it, people line up a day before, and then even buy version 2, 3, and 4, all overpriced compared to competition, and still don't see the irony in it.

Then, Microsoft comes out with something new and the town grabs their pitchforks and heads for the tower in order to burn Microsoft down.

All this is is a business move to unify the PC, Windows Phone, Xbox, and Tablet.  Personally, I think it's a great idea.  And obviously you won't need the new device to play Xbox, it's just something else to use at home (or possibly while not at home?).

im guessing this means there may not be news of a new xbox coming because otherwise you would think they would put all their effort into hyping that...

I'd wanna wait for the presentation before we draw to any conclusions.. But so far this does seem dumb.

Sorry but this seems kinda stupid to me. They'll want you to buy this, than in a couple years they'll want you to buy the Nextbox. By then the tablet probably will be behind, and they'll have a new one to coincide with the Nextbox's release date, just watch.

So is this like a stand alone tablet that can be used independent of the x360,or is it some kinda x360 add on

Nice to see they will be supporting Android and IOS. I am surprised considering they are in competition with them.

I think people are missing a some key info here. There are TWO main points! first this is NOT an xbox tablet!!!

They are going to debut a WINDOWS table. that has been rumored for some time. The WINDOWS tablet is running the XBOX APP. an APP that will be avalible on OTHER tablets as well. you do NOT have to buy a NEW table to use "smart glass". the article says they will have a smart glass app that you can run on your existing tablet!

this is BRILLIANT! Nintendo has put all the R&D into making a custom tablet that their new console will center around. With one tiny little app any one can do the same thing with the tablet they ALREADY own. Hey buy a ipad or Samsug Galazy and control your 360 and ALL the thing the tablets can do, or buy a wii U tablet and.... look at your zelda map in your lap... and video chat.

I am not saying the Wii U or tablet will suck. But Microsoft just turned 5 years of R&D into a app for any tablet... I think thats brillant. it bassicly undermines Nintendo main selling point. I think about it. Tablet are the faster growing sector of electronic. I can already tunnel into my PC with my tablet and control my desktop with a virtual one. no reason why we coulntly do it for the 360.

I am TRULLY impressed. I hope sony follows suit as well. You can already tunnel into the your ps3 with your psp and vita. no reason no to be able to it with a tablet. Execpt that SONY HATES samsung and apple. those two companies are the reason for Sony's demise. Sony wants no part of either of them, so I really dony see them making an app for a ipad, but maybe for andriod.

Seems like MS is copying Nintendo.
