Wreck-It Ralph trailer debuts

Disney feature film about video game villain due for November; first trailer features Pac-Man, Street Fighter, Q-Bert cameos; John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman star.

Game-based movies haven't always done so well, but Disney is hoping audiences will still flock to a movie based on games. Today the company debuted the first trailer for Wreck-It Ralph on MSN.

The movie follows the titular Ralph, a villain in a retro Donkey Kong-style arcade game. After decades of coming out on the losing end, Ralph decides he's fed up with being hated for doing his job and quits. He takes off to explore other gameworlds, coming across a variety of gaming icons along the way. In the trailer alone, he encounters characters from Street Fighter (Zangief and M. Bison), Mario (Bowser), Sonic the Hedgehog (Dr. Robotnik), Pac-Man (Clyde), and Q-Bert.

The film stars John C. Reilly (Step Brothers) as Ralph, Sarah Silverman (Jesus is Magic), Jane Lynch (Glee), and Jack McBrayer (30 Rock). It will hit theaters this November in Real 3D.

The trailer looks so funny! I cant believe no one thought of this before? I'm glad they got the licenses for the different games.  That makes it all even better.  I saw Samus from Metroid in there too.  I can't wait!

I did a double take at the poster at the theater, but that trailer was kinda meh.  I'm sure I'll check it out though.

So If you have been gaming for awhile then you will be able to get some of the gaming culture references. I remember when Q-bert was a brand new game in the arcade. But videogame movie never do well. So if you are going to see this movie. do so right away since it won't last long in theaters.

@Megavideogamer Nobody is going to care that it's about video games. They will care that it's an animated film for kids. Those always do well regardless of content as long as they are well produced. The general public likes these films.

This is directed by Rich Moore. He has worked on The Simpsons, The Critic and Futurama. Some of the episodes he has worked on includes the monorail episode, Cape Feare, Flaming Moe's and Futurama's Roswell episode.

Can I ask all that read this and have a Linkedin entry to pretend that they worked for Tobikomi on ?Wreck-It Ralph? (1982 ? 1983)? just for a laugh.

I get the feeling this film will be MEGA - not for the quality of the production, but for the memories and nostalgia that it instigates. That said I want to try and use this support to reboot interest in amusement. You guys (and gals) get it - but I need to kick-start interest in the November release and in the films core message that coin-op is still king! (after this years' E3 the job is not as hard as it once was!)

I read about this movie months and months ago and it sounded cool then. Just having a movie based in the VG world is an awesome idea. Now having seen the trailer, and all of the amazing cameos!!!!! This looks totaly incredible. I have a feeling this is a bluray i will be pausing endlessly to see everything they hid throughout the movie. Love it.

Wish they could convey the goofy expressions of John C. Reilly on to the character, because if you listen to the voice the face just seems to calm and easy.

Green monster- Shuma Gorath (marval villian)

@cobiwegner Actually at 1:24 you can see it floating by and I know what it is. It's a Beholder, they had a game on SNES called Eye of the Beholder and they've appeared in several other fantasy RPGs.

@cobiwegner Looks more like a Marlboro from Final Fantasy. Shuma Gorath doesn't have eyes on the ends of his tentacles.

Anyone know who that Woman and Robot were references too in the therapy session?

First one I saw in the pic they have was Smoke. Proof I play too much Mortal Kombat. If you wonder where he is, he's to the left of Bowser.

@removermover Isn't Cano to the left of the Zombie? I can't tell if that's Smoke or not though, it only shows him for a second.

@Iamshmee It is Kano, I've already seen the movie at a test screening and Kano has one of the best parts

This would be better if it stared Donkey Kong. I couldn't care any less for Ralph.

How many copy rights they needed XD This is pretty orignal to me, So many characters from other conpanies are in as cameos. Should be interesting none the less.

Other Characters visible in the Trailer:

-Final Form of Neff - Villain from Altered Beast - Big Purple Rhino at the meeting

-Chun Li - During Station shot, look for the bald football/soccer player near the bottom right corner. Chun Li is walking behind him from right to left.

-Cammy - To the right again. Find that Big Sun looking thing. Look further down from it and Cammy is walking towards the screen.

-Nathan Drake - Not 100% Sure about this one, but he's the easiest to find. Look for M.Bison in the Station Scene and look just to the left of him.

Let's see if this spiritual successor to Roger Rabbit (come on, we all know it is) will be good. The trailer seems nice, and I thought it was entertaining seeing a generic zombie as one of the bad guys.

My thoughts exactly. I'll watch with sounds when I get home, but if it's half way decent, I'm really going to love it.

@phatsanta He never worked for Shadaloo in any of the games. Balrog would have been a better choice, but I'm assuming they didn't choose him because he is black.
