Worms 2 ushers in Armageddon on XBLA July 1
Team 17's militant annelids arrive on Microsoft's online platform next week for $10.
Team 17 airdropped Worms on Xbox Live Arcade in March 2007, and the aggressive annelids have proven to be quite resilient. Twenty-one months after it debuted to positive reviews, the turn-based strategy wargame ranked among the top 10 most downloaded titles on the Xbox 360's online platform for 2008.
Soon, Team 17 will be calling in reinforcements, as the developer announced today that Worms 2: Armageddon will be available on Xbox Live on July 1 for $10 (MSP 800). With an enhanced edition of the original Worms redux added to the PlayStation Network in March 2009, Team 17 notes that Worms 2: Armageddon "is initially exclusive to Xbox Live Arcade."
Worms 2: Armageddon is based on the highly acclaimed Worms Armageddon, which originally saw release for the PC in 1999. Worms 2 features five all-new landscape scenarios built in the style of the original Armageddon, as well as 130 variations of those base maps. The game also brings over a number of Armageddon's weaponry, including super sheep, the Holy Hand Grenade, and the concrete donkey, with new armaments, including the bunker buster and Buffalo of Lies.
Team 17 also said that it has reworked the fundamental game physics, as well as tweaked the game's audio and visual style. Worms 2 also features a number of new modes for both single- and multiplayer, as well as an extensive suite of Worms customization options.
