CD Projekt Red CEO confirms Wild Hunt will be final entry in trilogy, but not necessarily the last game in the series.
Yesterday, CD Projekt Red studio manager Adam Badowski said The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would be the final entry in the series. He said, "People may ask if this is really going to be the last Witcher game. Yes, it is." As it turns out, what Badowski meant was The Witcher 3 would be the final game in the trilogy, but not necessarily the last game in the universe overall.
"This is the last part of the trilogy, in which there will be a great finale of the story. However, this doesn't mean the end of franchise," CDPR CEO Adam Kicinski told Polish Press Agency, translated by Eurogamer. "Franchise will be continued."
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is due out for "high-end" platforms in 2014. It will feature a gameworld 30 times larger than The Witcher 2 and will prompt users to make choices with "truly epic consequences."
More than 5 million total Witcher games have been sold to date, though the figure could have been even larger. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has been illegally downloaded 4.5 million times, according to CD Projekt Red, and the company has stopped pursuing pirates.
I want to play all the witcher games again . Original witcher is still my favourite AAA game of all time as well as The Witcher 2 . Both games are masterpiece .
Check out The Witcher 3 design interview :
Wait, wait wait... There were MORE copies sold than illegaly downloaded!?
their numbers have to be wrong... otherwise, we may be witnessing the first time a game company ever made real progress in the piracy issue...
...without the use of any DRM whatsoever. ... What does that say?
@Icepick_Trotter Unfortunately the 5 million sold figure is cumulative for Witcher 1 and 2, all editions. They definitely had more of Witcher 2 stolen than sold. It was quoted in a news article and interview with the CEO last year.

Great! Can't wait to play this game! :)
"The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has been illegally downloaded 4.5 million times, according to CD Projekt Red"
And I am pretty sure, that more than 80% of this downloaders, bought the game as well. ;P
I'm glad it's a trilogy... who want to play endless number of games featuring the same set of characters? it's not a soap opera... but witcher universe is a good one and it's good they're planing or considering making more games about it... just new characters and new story...
No more Geralt's adventures, but new protagonist in the same universe. I'm perfectly OK with this. Witcherland has enormous potential, and this is obvious for everyone who has read stories and novels. Sapkowski wrote books about Geralt for 13 years, there's so much space for another dark fantasy tale in this setting.
Naturally, but I think you were pretty clear the first time around Mr. Badowski but hey milk the series for all it has. I say the more the merrier.
Um O.K. I could have told you this long before the game was ever announced. Every game could or could not be the last in it's series, even if it's the first one.
I know this is becoming a common practice, but this is just developers being lazy.
Yhey don't want to think of another plot for a new game so The Witcher will turn into a Assassin's Creed where Desmond story never ends.
I love The Witcher, but finish the Geralt story already and make a new great game.
Also, this isn't no Call of Duty or even Assassin's Creed where the game design largely stays the same from game to game. The Witcher 1 was quite different from The Witcher 2. The Witcher 3 sounds like it will be very different from The Witcher 2, even more so than The Witcher 1 was to The Wtcher 2.
First of all the world and lore of The Witcher wasn't new because it was already thought up and put into a series of novels long before the game existed. Second, they said this is the end of the Witcher trilogy but not the franchise which means there would be a new protagonist and story. Third, they are already creating a new game called Cyberpunk 2077. And finally, they never said they wouldn't create a new game (actually quite the opposite because they said they had plenty of other stories to tell besides The Witcher). They could end up making another completely new game and come back to the franchise later.
Well this game gonna be great. loved the music it's from the first game.
Gonna wait with my GPU upgrade till this game comes out.
simply amazing. CDP know their shit, and I can't wait for the pc version of this game, epic engine, graphics, ofc gameplay and story and MODS!!!
Didn't I told other people of the other Witcher 3 article, companies love to lies so that when the next game come out there will be superhype. And sales shall skyrocket.
In other words, Willd Hunt will just be the final journey of Geralt of Rivia. Well anyway Witcher 3 is definitely my most anticipanted of 2014, might even upgarde a PC for it since it may not have a console verison until 2015.
This will most likely be coming out for the PS4 and XBox 720 as well. After the Witcher 2 was pirated 4.5 million times on the PC. I can't see why when wouldn't bring this to consoles and make themself some money.
@XanderZane They claim that the game was pirated so badly, yet the game sold over one million units in a span of 2 months on the PC, and the 360 version has been out for almost a year now and its just barely over 500k sales,
There is plenty of source material in the Witcher universe, so they could easily make more games. They wouldn't feature Geralt though, but some new blood.
I'm hoping for some better voice acting in the next one. In my opinion its the only thing holding it back from true greatness.
@hadlee73 I think it was generally good all around, but facial animation on the other hand concerns me more. I hope they'll improve it too.
I'm guessing this is the last we'll see of Geralt which is sad, he's such a cool protagonist. However i'd love to see the world of witcher series expanded and the other zones explored, even the same zones explored from another viewpoint. It would be a shame to see the witcher universe go to waste. GO CDPR!
@PlusFour Geralt is a true badass warrior, although his expression may sometimes feel cold. He is actually the good guy.
Look at that, Witcher 2 has been pirated 4.5 million times, and yet WE DON'T HAVE A GARBAGE DRM THAT WILL RUIN OUR EXPERIENCE WITH THE GAME!!!!
*Good Guy CDPR*
@strawberry9 Man the PC audience are shameless :(
@Dark_Matter1337 They claim that the game was pirated so badly, yet the game sold over one million units in a span of 2 months on the PC, and the 360 version has been out for almost a year now and its just barely over 500k sales,
@Dark_Matter1337 If these pirates want to do something good, then pirate Diablo 3.

@queuing_for_PS4 Don't feed this troll, people.
@queuing_for_PS4 The fans of the Witcher series care because it's a fun game.

@96augment @Addice @queuing_for_PS4 @yeah_28 I hope he meant Dragon Age 2, Origins is one of my favourite RPGs. And hype or no hype, CDP will make another fantastic game to rival both TES and Dragon Age (fingers crossed Dragon Age 3 will be good!)
The Elder Scrolls is a good IP but with each new iteration they go further and further away from what make them good games. Skyrim was good but they have really dumbed the game down.
Witcher is a fun game and no it was not game of the year material. I doubt it will win game of the year because it does not get marketed enough.
Seeing how you want to explain to myself what i want, why i want it, and what would i do, its logical to think you probably like to fight and disagree just for the sake of it, writing empty proof-less claims and accusations is a classic for that.
I hope you at least like the witcher saga a little so you'll have another game to enjoy.
I kind of like dao and elder scrolls
