Witcher 3 has 100 hours of total playtime, dev says

CD Projekt Red claims main story accounts for 50 hours, with another 50 for "additional stories"; new screenshots released.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt boasts 100 hours of total playtime, developer CD Projekt Red said today. The main narrative accounts for about 50 hours, while "additional stories" add a further 50 hours, the company claimed.

In addition, CD Projekt Red released new images of The Witcher 3 today. Set on the islands of Skellige, the screenshots are based on an early version of the game.

They do not make use of new rendering technology, which will be used in the final game, the developer said. The Witcher 3 is due out in 2014 for "high-end" platforms, including the PlayStation 4.

Confirmed : Geralt can swim , jump and use boat .  Game will support nVidia Phsyx on PC , no DX9 support . You can only drink potions outside the combat but since Geralt is Witcher , he can control his organs so you can activate the effect of the potion during combat (Now this is common feature or alchemy based skill ability , is yet to be confirmed) .

That rendering technology better be good. These images dont look next gen at all...

@Assassin_M85 They said watching screenshots at this point is not worth it . The game is not only running in DX9 and old renderer but also is in alpha stage , not Beta . Final game will be DX11 and no DX9 support . This is really going to be next gen game . Latest interviews confirm that even alpha was looking a bit better than The Witcher 2 and TW2 looked phenomenal on PC .

Well, I'll have no life for a while when this game gets released. That's for certain.

I do not ordinarily comment on anything anywhere, but as I am a long-time member of GameSpot, I will offer my voice on the matter: Wow. The Witcher 2 was the most complex game that I ever played, yet it was so very simple. The routes that you could take w/ character customization and leveling were superb. Combat was simply the best I've played in any RPG and I've played Dark Souls, all 3 Mass Effect games, Fallout, Skyrim, etc. The game originally looked superb and I played it on the Xbox. I even enjoyed the backwards difficulty (tough in beginning, easier towards end) because it made me feel like I was doing something. Storytelling was mature and handled correctly, even with the nudity. The only problems I found were with the map/waypoint (as others have said) and traveling. I do not mind a game w/o fast travel, but at least allow me to run. The jogging mechanic was BS. Also, hopefully next gen will take away load times: One can only hope. That all being said, I'm excited as you all should be too.

Oh dear. 50 hours for the main campaign means there is some kind of grinding or filler content extended it out to be that long. I'd rather have 20 hours of well-paced main campaign and 80 hours of "additional stories".

@hadlee73 pretty early to make that call. And as amazing as the witcher 2 was I have faith that they will do a great job with this game. CD Projekt Red knows what they are doing and how to treat their customers. Don't let companies like EA/Activision make you too bitter (although it is hard).

@hadlee73 the Witcher 2 was nearly 50 hours... and that was anything but filler.

I like games that make me want to walk around and dont make me feel forced to. If they can spice up travel, then i have no problem if they leave out a fast travel.

New engine and new gen. Im definitely looking forward to what they'll make of it

You don't need to report anything else about the game, I'm already buying it.

40 hours or 100 hours..i dnt care. But i wont foget and forgive uyou guyz easily for ruining the combat in witcher 2.Stick to Witcher 1 this time

RustedTruck650

@saifssj6 So i take it that The Witcher 3 will have an even lesser combat system than the Witcher 2? Well, maybe having this game as a must for my PS4 is not top priority as of now, i'll just wait and see though.

Please, disregard this ridiculous troll. I've played through both Witcher games multiple times, comparing the two game's combat systems is like comparing Checkers to Chess... the Witcher 2 obviously being Chess. Trust me, Witcher 2's combat is far superior in every single way.

petez34
petez34

@RAD_RADIO @RustedTruck650 @saifssj6 That's a matter of opinion. W2 combat was a spamming of lmb rmb, and for me, found it sort of boring compared to the timing based c.s. of 1. Comparing the W2 system to chess!...well, have you ever played chess? didn't think so.

This is gonna be GOTY, for sure. Also, I hope this game does NOT have fast travel. That way, there would be no excuse to simply go from quest to quest and not experience the world around you. AND, it would be more realistic.

RustedTruck650
RustedTruck650

@PeterDuck i think that's a dumb idea because if that is the case then you could squeeze another 300 hours out a sand box game. Which translates to half of those hours to pure boredom due to all the unnecessary walking. It's fun to walk but not every freaking time.

saifssj6

@PeterDuck :just dont use fast travel

Slade968
Slade968

@saifssj6 @PeterDuck its not about will power. It's about the developers creating a game where it doesn't feel like you need fast travel. Saying "just don't use fast travel" isn't really realistic in the games where it is designed to be used.

Thats not how it works. Not everyone has strong will power. If the opportunity is there you may not be able to help yourself. There is no free will after all.

Sardinar

@PeterDuck @saifssj6 Neither do developers have strong will power to not put fast travel into the game. There is no free will after all.

@PeterDuck Yeah. If this game is at least as immersive and beautiful as Witcher 2, I'd ride mah horse for 2 hours if need be.

after 2 games you guys should know how to code by now, you made a 10000000.00% improvement over w1, but w2 even the enhanced version still had a lot of quirks in it, you can do better.  And for christs sake w2 he's a witcher a monster hunter, how about more monsters in the w3 and some decent AI, AI in w2 was a fucking joke.

@boomer0901 @CP2077 It's not that people don't want to agree with you, they simply can't. You didn't provide a single specific example to which others can relate. You're probably trolling anyways.

I'm sorry I'm critical about games, but I've been around long enough to see every type of game over the last 3 decades.

Geralt is a superb lead in any video game, I don't think CD or their coding does him justice, these games could have been better especially W1, it a was a travesty of a game.  I don't care if you agree with me or not, it's an opinion and people should get both sides.   W2 was a vast improvment, so maybe W3 they can finally do a create character like Geralt Justice.

@Imperiacommando Seems good but i dont think it can compare to Demons Souls and Dark Souls combat system. I will give Witcher 3 a shot though as it will be the first of the series making the jump to PS.

@krisk7 @tgwenz they have already talked about there being fast travel in the game. they felt it was to big of a area and had to add it I don't really want fast travel (immersion Braking) but I guess they have to try and appease the Skyrim crowd.

Sardinar

@CP2077 @krisk7 @tgwenz Yeah, I don't want it either. I might purposely avoid it for the sake of immersion. PC modders will take it out of the game if need be. :)

More content is always good. Makes me feel like I spent $60 on a product that truly deserves it. Really excited about this coming to the PS4. Now I need to watch some playthroughs of the first two of the series so I can be up-to-speed.
