Wii U users accidentally access console's debug mode

I was in the same situation that "Tom_Cody" was in regarding TEST MODE: LINE MODE in the gamepad.

Nintendo emailed a shipping label so I could send the gamepad back to them.

Instead, I fixed it :D

The game pad was left in factory mode. I don't recall which menu it was (I really wasn't expecting to fix it ... ), but under one of the menus (either Flash Menu, UIC Menu or Misc Menu) there are two sub menus. One for "Ship Mode off" and "Ship Mode On"

Select, using D-pad (not thumbstick) "Ship On" or whatever it says. It'll be obvious, then "A". Turn off the gamepad, then turn it back on. 

My gamepad is now on, working as expected, and the console is now updating.

I was hoping Nintendo marketing would consider making the console OS completely open as a reaction to this...

The only problem I see is that the Wii U is selling the deluxe version for $50 bucks more then the simple model... wtf is this?!

Let's be fair, the PSP, PS3 and Vita had debug firmware information screens that they'd never disabled before release, the GB Advance can run any code you want on startup, and the Dreamcast could play pirated games unmodified due to unremoved debug code. While this is a blunder from Nintendo it's not the first time and certainly not the worst.

With all the hating on Nintendo, you all act as if other consoles have not had problems at first launch? Overheating? Not even just problems at launch but problems in general. Red ring of death? It happens.

While this in itself is neither bad nor good its more or less the fact of WHAT it could potentially allow people to do with it.

Its almost like they were saying "Look you can pirate it, but don't forget to buy the console and the original games".

Debugging menu could lead to uncertainty i think..

is this something bad? i though being able to debug your console would be considered as  good :D

A bit of a blunder, really hope this doesn't start day one piracy. Not what Nintendo needs, on the other hand... they need to wake up and really get online right. Lucky that in Australia most of the blunders, apart from the 5 gig firmware update will be fixed.

Personally I think a debug menu for a console would be a good thing, giving users more control over how their system works if they so desire (like a PC). However am I right in assuming this is a bad thing because it can speed up the hacking process or cause troubles for inexperienced users?

 @wexorian You dont need perfect grammer, but at least try to not sound like and LSD and Acid induced drug addict. What is your point? Its a story as old as time that things sell despite not being very good. The last twilight movie just made 141 in a weekend but no one is going to sit there and say its anything good. The fact is nintendo's fanbase sticks with it even despite the fact the last worthwhile console they made was the SNES.
