Nintendo cutting price of console in US through new bundle that includes black system, Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort; shipping to retailers now and will be "broadly available" by October 28.
Nintendo has cut the price of the Wii in the United States. The Mario maker today announced a new $130 bundle that includes a black Wii console, as well as copies of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort on one disc.
The $130 Wii bundle is shipping to stores immediately and will be "broadly available" by October 28. The new Wii bundle replaces the existing $150 black Wii that comes with New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
A price drop for other regions was not announced.
According to Nintendo of America executive vice president of sales and marketing Scott Moffitt, the price drop, along with its inclusion of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, will make the new bundle an "easy choice" for those seeking out a value during the upcoming holiday season.
The Wii launched in North America during November 2006 through a bundle that included the system and a copy of Wii Sports. The console's Wii U successor is due out in North America on November 18 in two versions: a $300 basic model and a $350 deluxe iteration. The system comes to Europe and Australia November 30 and Japan December 8.

1 Like @02050muh With us hardcores getting mixed up every now and then just imagine all the non-gamer parents and grandparents trying to make a Nintendo gift purchase for this Christmas. The store clerks will be going insane if not during the xmas shopping season, then during returns and exchanges after Christmas.
That's exactly what I said when Nintendo unveiled the thing at E3. I said that if the gaming press themselves were clearly confused by the thing, then the average consumer stands no chance. I've mentioned it to a bunch of people recently and none of them knew what I was talking about, so while Nintendo said that they were going to raise awareness, it doesn't seem to be working.
The name is bad enough, but the logo is even worse. It doesn't really even look like a letter (as in, part of the name), it looks more like an icon, something you wouldn't think is part of the name.
Of course not, because those systems look entirely different from each other and have prominent numerals differentiating them.
lol, an old system, with 2 old games, one being the very first Wii game ever. I think they're just trying to get rid of the Wii units they had left for a so called "cheap price". Not worth it, man.
If you still want to enjoy the Wii, save up for the Wii U, which is coming out next month. It's new, fresh, and has better games coming out (so it's been said :p). And you can always get the Wii Sports and/or Resort supercheap or buy a used copy. But seriously, who even plays these games nowadays? They could have added a Mario Party game or something way better.
Why not just save up $170 more and get the wii u? I mean it looks about 10 times better than the wii.
You know, even if the Wii was as cheap as $5, there would be complaints about it being overpriced even then.
When I bought my Wii, I paid the equivalent of $500,00, which I regret given the amount of time I've spent with it in the last 4 years. It's easier re-unbox my GC than playing Wii for a long period...
I can't wait to buy the Wii U and play through the entire back catalogue of games when it becomes this cheap :D
5 Like WII was the best selling console just because the little kids wanted it, and every little kids I know got bored with it in less than a month and never uses it.
@sunghyun26 yeah my little cousins were like that too, and now they're just playing CoD, which kinda surprised me when I learned about it. Then again, there are always little kids playing mature games.
Good thing I sold my wii for 200+ bucks awile back. It gave me enough to buy a new PS3 slim, and I have been enjoying it since. I consider myself a hardcore gamer but I am very picky. My time is too valuable. I did enjoy some wii titles like all the Marios, bros and galaxy, but they can satisfy for so long... I like variety which offered through not only exclusives, but also 3rd party support.

1 Like They should have taken this price drop and applied it to the Wii U. Not that it's vastly overpriced, but it would have helped especially with $150 controllers or whatever the price was.

It is compatible with everything the wii had, well except the GC sstuff.
I assume at least some people would want more than 1 of them. If you break one then what, you have to wait for your new one to be shipped to you, or are you able to go and get a replacement one meant for people who have a Wii U? Or do you have to send it in and wait for it to be fixed if it is fixable? Who knows how long that would take. Anyway, I guess if I don't want one I won't get one.

Nintendo releases new console -> the new console gets hate for all the gen when the previous system that got equal amounts of hate is now treated like a godsend -> when that gen ends, cycle repeats
4 Like Seriously? At this point anyone who thinks that is just an example of a spoiled gamer who thinks that the tech inside of console means everything. There have been multiple sources already confirming that the Wii U is much more powerful than the 360/PS3, not only that, it's highly likely that the next gen Playstation/XBox will not be much more powerful than the Wii U.
You seriously kidding yourself if you think Sony and Microsoft are willing to lose billions once again just to please a few thousand gamers who only care about "pretty graphics."
@abHS4L88 @akdiuuuryttt It's not much more powerful then both Ps3 and 360.It's a sad piece of tech that is just a bit better then 6-7 y/o console's.When both Ps4 and w/e Ms is cooking up will put the Wii u to shame.I don't care about a extra screen when i play games.It has a extra 512mb of ram over Ps3 and 360.A very weak Cpu which is a huge bottleneck.WiiU isn't crap the fanboys will buy and the rest of us will pass it up.

1 Like Yes it's not ignorance to not be able to distinguish the finer improvements, but I'm saying it's ignorance to automatically assume that it's not next generation because one cannot see the differences, especially with the way technology constantly progresses.
Back then it was really easy to make a leap in visuals since the pixels were constantly getting smaller, allowing for more detailed games to come out immediately.
It bothers me that people make this assumption when PC games don't look much better than their console counterparts yet are far more powerful, and that's the current state of the Wii U.
But anyways, I'm excited for this upcoming E3, it's going to be insane since Sony and Microsoft should be revealing their new systems while Nintendo will be bringing out the big guns with games. Could possibly be the best E3 since uhhhhh, yeah, I don't remember XD since the past E3's I watched weren't that great.
1 Like @abHS4L88 @risseer23 @akdiuuuryttt I agree with what you're saying in regards to the your end of run Xbox games and Xbox 360 launch title quality comparison. We see it happening now with titles that are leaps ahead visually and technologically (model details, physics, etc) than the launch title games possessed. And I know we should expect the same from the Wii U as developers become more familiar with developing for the platform.
But still, for those of us who experienced leaps and bounds from Atari to NES, Sega Master System to Genesis, N64 to PSX, Xbox to PS3, there was a much bigger noticeable leap.
The PS3 and Xbox leap to Wii U isn't a big one. I'm just clarifying that that is why many people would not see it as a next gen console at all. It's something you either notice or not which is not a question of ignorance, it's just whether or not the individual gamer can distinguish the finer improvements that the Wii U is bringing to the plate which are less pronounced as they were in generation leaps in the past. Just like someone with design background would notice glitches and discontinuity in bad shading in a photoshoped piece that the average person wouldn't.
I'm with you on a new F-Zero! I'd also love to see a new take on the Super Mario 64 formula. And not to forget a HD Mario Kart!

Forgot to add, I understand your view point, but it's always been standard fare that the next generation of consoles will always be much more powerful than the last. Sure the Wii didn't make that jump because Nintendo was taking a different approach, but considering that they're very serious about appealing to the "core gamer" they would ensure that the WiI U would be a noticeable step above the PS3/360, plus considering how old those systems are, it wouldn't be difficult either way.
Maybe it was the long generation, but for some reason, the level of ignorance seemed to have shot up during this generation, as if the entire gaming industry didn't exist before this one to many gamers.

Again, (don't know how many times this has been covered) developers are NOT going to tap into the full power of the Wii U immediately, especially the multiplatform games because it's extra resources that don't really need to be spent since the game still looks great.
Although Frozenbyte did state that with Trine 2: Director's Cut, the extra stages utilized the Wii U's stronger hardware as it would have to be scaled down for the PS3/360.
Look at gameplay footage of Doom 3, Jade Empire, Conker's Bad Fur Day for the XBox and compare them to the 360's launch titles, the differences weren't that great yet it was COMPLETELY obvious that the 360 was still a more powerful system. It wasn't until games like Gears of War that fully utilized the 360's hardware that the power of the 360 became apparent.
Plus we're beginning to hit a peak with visuals since you really can't get much better than photo realistic graphics so those "jumps" won't be as noticeable as before. Wait until E3 at least, Nintendo will definitely have games built for the Wii U ready to show, high hopes for a new F-Zero!

All the extra social stuff Nintendo is packing in is nice and lovely.. but a lot of gamers are more interested to see how will the new console enhance my gaming experience and stimulate my sensors in a way that the last gen failed to do so.
Looking at a lot of the footage, as a gamer and consumer I ask myself.. Do I stick with just the xbox 360 seeings as visually the games aren't much better. Or do I go for a PS3 which is cheaper, looks just as good, and has an amazing game library available dirt cheap. Why should I upgrade? Of course the Nintendo fanboy in me says buy it now! WE NEEDS IT!! MY PRECIOUS! And so I will get one. But, I won't blind myself to other peoples concerns over the power because it's so visible in the footage. Graphically, it leaves a lot to be desired.
Seriously, what's your proof that the Wii U is hardly more powerful? Let me guess, the games for the Wii U don't look much better than the 360/PS3?
Look up Doom 3, Conker's Bad Fur Day: Live and Reloaded, Jade Empire, or Fable for the XBox and compare the graphics to the 360's launch titles, the 360 titles hardly look better so does that mean that the 360 is hardly better than the original XBox? The first 360 title that truly took advantage of the hardware was Gears of War. So far there are no Wii U games that are truly taking advantage of the Wii U's hardware which is why we're not seeing any games that look like a huge jump and this is COMPLETELY NORMAL.
You call us fanboys, I call you a moron since everything that's happening is typical of a generation shift in videogames yet you people act like this generation was the ONLY generation of gaming.
1 Like @abHS4L88 @akdiuuuryttt Based on HD footage of Zombie U gameplay, I can see why the OP raises the point. The graphics looks worse, in some respects, than the 360 and PS3. It hardly seems like a next gen console when we're used to greater leaps in the quality of graphics. Sure graphics aren't the only thing, but they are important, and also the first thing you look for and notice when checking out a new console for the first time.
But with that all said, Nintendo games in 1080p are going to be sweeeeeet!

The Wii sold extremely well for 4 years, I don't know what kind of standards you have but that's really good considering that each generation tends to be 4-5 years.
Yeah the 360/PS3 were built to last, problem was that they NEEDED to last otherwise both companies would've lost tons of money, Sony is finally seeing profits from the PS3 and how old is it?
@abHS4L88 @BludshedX @akdiuuuryttt Nintendo should had went with a better Cpu.You don't want to bottleneck a console like that.I don't think you need a powerhouse console to sell,but you need one that can hold up for atleast 4 years.Look at Nintendo they launched the same year as Ps3 and Nintendo had no choice but to make WiiU sales of the Wii dropped like a stone the novelty wore off and people stop buying.Ps3 and 360 were built to last longer,as for Nintendo pushing the Wii their wasn't a striking diffrence from Gamecube games and Wii titles.
Sure we're used to great leaps in graphics but what I think a lot of people seem to forget is that that leap doesn't always happen right away.
Look up Doom 3 or Conker's Bad Fur Day Live and Reloaded and compare those games to Perfect Dark Zero or most other 360 launch titles, there really isn't that much of a jump, sure if you compare PS2 games to early PS3 games, it's extremely noticeable.
Even Super Mario World didn't look a great deal better than Super Mario 3. It takes time for developers to get used to the hardware. Pretty sure next year at E3, we'll see footage of games that are built from the ground up using the Wii U's technology so that's probably when everyone will shut up about the Wii U not being next gen.
But yeah, considering what Nintendo managed to achieve graphically with the Wii, I can only imagine what their flagship titles will look like in HD. F-ZERO!!!!

I have a Wii, but I totally forgot that the Wii 1.4 is just around the corner. I'm going to wait until it has about 10 awesome games to play before I buy it though. That should take about 5 years.

There have been numerous reports from editors and gamers who've tried out Razor's Edge and have stated that it's the Ninja Gaiden 3 everyone was supposed to get originally.
Bayonetta 2 won't be coming out until next year.

Yes, I meant games that are part of the "launch window" since The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 2, and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate aren't launching with the system either.
But yeah, the original poster was saying "when there's 10 awesome games" which there are already confirmed.
