Why no PS3 Review of Madden NFL 10?

By JusticeCovert

We just posted our review of Madden NFL 10 for the Xbox 360 and, given that the two games are so similar, you're probably wondering why we haven't also reviewed the PlayStation 3 version. The answer is simple: We haven't played it. More to the point, we haven't received it from EA yet.The Xbox 360...

We just posted our review of Madden NFL 10 for the Xbox 360 and, given that the two games are so similar, you're probably wondering why we haven't also reviewed the PlayStation 3 version. The answer is simple: We haven't played it. More to the point, we haven't received it from EA yet.

The Xbox 360 version arrived almost two weeks ago, so we've been able to spend plenty of time with it. The Wii version, which we'll have a review of up soon, wasn't too far behind it. There's still no sign of the PS3 version though, despite our requesting one from EA on August 6 and subsequently being told that at least two or three copies were sent to GameSpot last week. Did those copies get lost in the mail? Is the PS3 version deliberately being withheld because it's inferior in some way? Or perhaps the PS3 version is even better, and the feature that lets you design plays on your PSP and then import them into the game is awesome? We just don't know.

What we do know is that we're not going to post a review of the PS3 version until we've spent time with the PS3 version. We're told by EA that the X360 and PS3 games are "identical", but we prefer to judge that for ourselves. And we will, just as soon as we can get our hands on a PS3 copy.

EDIT: August 13, PS3 copy just showed up in the mail. Looks like it was overnighted to us. We'll get a review posted just as soon as we've spent some time with it and had an opportunity to try out the PSP connectivity.

@LordAndrew: Sorry I think we got off on the wrong foot here. I do agree with you, I was just trying to prove a point to all the people crying bias against the PS3, which you clearly aren't doing. And bias from the postal service is just plain hilarious. It's just not as big a deal as some people are making out. Clearly a mistake was made on the part of EA, which in turn has made it look like Gamespot doesn't care about its PS3 reviews, which obviously isn't true. All of this is cleared up in the article, as I am sure you know. Unfortunately a lot of people don't.

@Romeric87: They received the game on August 13th. They published the review on August 17th. I did read the article. Several times. I was aware of the publication date of the PS3 review and the date of the update to this article before I posted my comment. I cannot allow myself to make uneducated comments about things like this. I never attempted to claim EA was trying to sabotage their own products. I don't believe there's any conspiracy at all. GameSpot just didn't receive the PS3 version at the same time as the Xbox 360 version. They eventually did, and then published a review several days later after testing its features. Why would they lie about it? There's no need to. If they forgot, they would have posted it immediately once they realized. No one would have cared, because at least it would have gone up in a timely manner, before the game was even out. The PS3 review was published three days after the release of the game. It may not seem like very long, but it's long enough to force people to go elsewhere for a review of the game. That's bad for GameSpot. So why do you think GameSpot would do that? If you can't think of a reason, it's because there isn't a reason. They would have loved to publish the review if they had one available to publish. But they didn't. Because they didn't even have the game yet.

@LordAndrew: Which they did.. on August 13th (Read the article). I'm trying to argue that EA is not biased towards the PS3... Why would they deliberately try to sabotage one of their own products??

@Romeric87: Oh, come on. That's just ridiculous. If they "forgot to post it", they'd just go ahead and post it once they noticed.

hahaha! EA? PS3? Bias? Never heard so much rubbish since the last comments section I read on Gamespot. Someone probably forgot to post it. Story over.

Lol - I get a negative score cuz someone can't read to end up my post - See "/sarcasm" much?

Lamest excuse..lol Just say it out loud: Microsoft is paying you to review their game versions faster and give them higher scores.

That's the worst excuse I've ever heard. People give their opinions about the Health Care bill that no one has read. Certainly you don't actually have to play a game to BS a review. /sarcasm

@Nodashi IGN also does the same thing with the PS3, heck, they're even worse at it! Almost all the of the feature articles direct toward the Xbox site, and that's why the Xbox gets the most traffic. However, I've noticed that Gamespot reviewed PS3 exclusive games much more harshly than IGN, until MGS4 came out and both sites gave it a 10. From there on, the PS3 games got a really big boost. IGN even did a comparative analysis of all the games on each platform released in 2008, and found that the PS3 had the highest amount of games rated over 9. Yet the 360 still dominates on their popularity contest, I've even read some PS3 bashing in some of their articles.

I didn't even notice. GS is always late with the reviews for the PS3 version of multiplatform games for the most part. Got used to it. XD

some guys here are pathetic. EA and the post office are bias against the PS3? LOOL That's GOLD, right there!

There probably the same, but with the feature that lets you design plays on your PSP and then import them into the game. that makes the ps3 version better.

On the other hand, every time there's a similar game (and let's be realistic, we're talking about 95% of the games for those consoles) they are reviewed on the xbox. When you click a preview link in the PS3 area often you're directed to a page in the Xbox area. Frankly, I don't use gamespot for my PS3 needs, I go straight to IGN. Didn't understand why my PS3 playing friends didn't like the site when I only played PC. I like the PC part of gamespot tough.

I doubt the two versions are much different from each other.

I liked my stalker's theory...even if the gamer-thief at the post office would be small time compared to David Berkowitz, I'd still like him fired.

Interesting... :x Maybe check the review somewhere else? It cant be too far off from the ps3 version.

we have a similar problem with the magazine I review for. There are two seperate reviewing groups, one for Ps3 games and another for Xbox games... I remember last year, we (the PS3 guys) got FIFA 09 almost a month in advance of the xbox team... EA SA simply said they weren't ready to allow local reviewers from seeing the xbox game... One year later, we still have no idea why :/ On the flip side, I noticed that other games (such as Quantum of Solace) only have an Xbox 360 review... Is that also for the same reason?

Who knows what the issue is, I just think it is entertaining and honest that GS posted an article explaining that they simply don't have the PS3 copy yet, lol. I'm sure they will get one soon but I wonder what Sony has to say about this because there product is not getting the same exposure that the Xbox 360 version is, I bet they're peeved.

Yeah its obvious that EA is bias or maybe even the mail service. Maybe someone as the post office is a madden fan and took them all and it going to get fired soon hopefully.

EA's PR department is going to have hell to pay!

Well, that is odd. Nice work posting this, though. It should head of the fanboy screams of bias.
