Development wraps up on PlayStation 3 multiplayer shooter; downloadable version to sell for $40, retail edition with Bluetooth headset going for $60.
It's been almost a dozen years since Warhawk was released for the original PlayStation, and now the fondly remembered flight combat game is finally going to become a proper franchise. Amidst the BlizzCon and QuakeCon hubub on Friday, Dylan Jobe of developer Incognito announced on the PlayStation blog that Warhawk for the PlayStation 3 has gone gold and will be available for purchase August 28.
The game will be available on a Blu-ray Disc in stores for $59.99, or downloadable through the PlayStation Network for $39.99. To justify the extra $20, the retail game will include extra video content, a manual, and a Jabra Bluetooth headset.
"I'm really glad that SCEA came through with a 'good value' price for this," Jobe said of the downloadable version of the game. "It's the right thing to do."

i have been waitting for long time watching the beta videos and all i will be getting this game for sure !!! save my money already!
I've been waiting 4 this game game 4 a while looking at trailers it seem like a game i could really get in 2 once i get it i've only got Uncharted,Ratchet,Unreal 3,Haze & heavenly sword to look forward 2 for the rest of the year but this game looks like it can entertain 4 a long time.
I played beta and it was great. If they improved on what they already had this game is going to go big. They have a great tracking system they track everything and I mean everything from the steps you walk to the time spent in a vehicle and what your best at and worst with. IMO the only thing they needed to work on was that the ranked games would freeze up every now and then. I think they have that under control because before they didn't have the proper servers to do the job and now they do. For all the people that were wondering if they six axis feature is optional well it is. If you would like to know more about what I thought about the beta go here it is very detailed : http://www.gamespot.com/users/TwiztedMetal/show_ blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25039574
well in the UK if the downloadable one costs 20 quid ill jus get the retail one because I can get it from play.com for 30 quid which aint 2 bad at all. Iv already got a headset but theyre's no harm in having another one :D.
I think this game is going to be bigger then alot of people expected and will be big for Ps3. I definitely will be getting this online. I wonder will there be better load time if you purchase it online?
yay. i've been looking forward to this game for so long. I'm trying to decide though if i want to buy the in store version or not because i already have a headset. not bluetooth, a crappy one but still its a headset.
If incgonito do anything similar to what they did with Twisted Metal:black this is going to be one hell of a fun game. Online only action, it's everything i could dream for in a game, hope they pulled it off. Videos look INSANE!
lamprey263: SIXAXIS is optional. Turning it off was the first option I looked for :D Not that there's anything wrong with it. Just not my preference. Flight has a bit of a learning curve with or without SIXAXIS but really fun once you get the hang of it. Fun and fast pace game with lots of variety. Can't wait for the retail release.
I'm thinking this game might suck. I'm also thinking that if it is actually fun and people jump early into the game then new players coming in down the line will really have a steep learning curve and more experienced players that will suck the fun out of the game.
Wow, I can't believe all the sony fans at how they are rejecting someones comments saying that this game will be bad, so those comments are hidden, they are probably right, this game does not look like it will do any justice, maybe in the $20 bin, but 40 for download, are you nutz?
I'm not even going to consider getting this until I know that SIXAXIS motion controls are strictly optional. Other than that, this game looks like a great online multiplayer title.
Insom187: Excellent post. I Like having my own opnion. Not one forcefed to me by people who think nothing like I do. I will definately try this game. if i like it I'll buy it.
Cross your fingers and hope that I doesn't do a 360 on us and go multi-platform... Impossible... But that would suck. >_>
I hope this turns out to be all that we all hope it will be and I believe it will. The screens look great and I just don't think they can go wrong with Warhawk and online put together.
holy poo thats amazing :) how much will this cost in UK. hmmmm im guessing that it will not be the equivilant of US. 30.00? no chance, more like 60.00 pounds ($120) for us UK people :(
good deal right there, an online game with a headset, and a downloadble version fo the game PS3's heading in the right direction now, hope it can still drive along the road this Fall
This is gonna kick some MAJOR ass!!!! That is some good deal, $40 for just the game and $60 with a BlueTooth headset! SWEET! :) Sony is being extra kool with this one. --------------- "Bgrngod It's gonna be a stinker.. I can smell it already. I wanted it to be good, but it aint gonna happen, not gonna do it." -------------- Man, seriously, just go home and shut yer piehole. We don't care and don't want to hear it buddy. How is this game going to be a stinker? It has not even been review yet. From what we HAVE seen it looks to kick some MAJOR ass.
Looks good to me. I need a mic so im getting retail. Havent played the beta but the game seems alot like battlefield to me and i loved battlefied o im on board.
It's gonna be a stinker.. I can smell it already. :( I wanted it to be good, but it aint gonna happen, not gonna do it.
I can't wait for the release of this game, and after participating in the Beta of this, I know it will be worth the $60. This is definitely the most entertaining online multi player game/game type I have ever played. Plus, I need a headset, and getting a $40 headset for $20, totally worth it.
UK price? Hmm. Probably £30 on the PSN and £45 in shops (maybe less at certain online sites like Tesco and Play.
The game will be available on a Blu-ray disc in stores for $59.99, or downloadable through the PlayStation Network for $39.99. To justify the extra $20, the retail game will include extra video content, a manual, and a Jabra Bluetooth headset. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's how games should be distributed, for those conscious about price should have the option to download at a cheaper price then the hard copy version
Thornscar "This dosen't look that great, I would definitly read the reviews first." I'm sure the reviews aren't gonna be that great. The game looks like fun, but they will probably rip it for taking out single player, although they shouldn't. BUT, shadowrun got a 6.9 here, and if warhawk doesn't get above that I'm gonna go ballistic on GS. sure SR was fun, but it in no way justify the $60 i spent on it, lacked majorly in content. something Warhawk seems like it has covered better. and from hearing people about the beta, it seems fun. I'd say it'll get 7.5 or maybe an 8
this game is been getting my attention lately ,from what is seems this game might be that sleeper hit that everyone is not paying to much attention to it,since Heavenly Sword and Lair are.gonna wait for reviews on Warhawk but the game looks promising indeed. $60 for the game and a headset?thats a hell of a deal right there lol.
DanC1989 said "This better be no more than £30 on our PSN store!" I would hope that it's actually less than that. Pricing of £20 and £40 would be nice but this is rip off Britain so they'll probably just match dollar for pound.
I will get the retail version. I need a headset for resistance and other games with online I plan to get (UT3, SOCOM) so this will be good. anyway I can trade in the etrail version when I am done with it. also those saying about the lair reviews the problem with some review sites is that they have different views about games. some want easy pick up and lay action but with lair it will be a bit of a challenge to master the sixaxis controll but when mastered it will give you more controll thrroughout the game as it frees up analouge sticks for the camera control.
I'm getting the retail version, it has more value. The Headset you get is $40 and if the downloadable version is $40 than that's the value of the game. So that equals $80 total, which means if you get the retail version you are paying $60 for $80 worth of value. Plus you get the behind the scens stuff. Of course the download is fair to but I need a headset! Plus if you get the retail version than that's less space taken up on your hardrive. And the download will probably take forever, I mean the Heavenly Sword Demo took over an hour.
