Well, I play on a Mac if the the game is available for Mac OS X, and this is a welcome addition. I just played a few hours with my brother and we had a good time! Sometimes we play Call of Duty 4 (on Macs) at the office after work and everyone seems to have a good time there too.
Mythic Entertainment opening up PVP-focused fantasy MMOG to Apple-based gamers this fall, beta test now underway.
Despite strong review scores and regular infusions of new content, EA and Mythic Entertainment have struggled to keep Warhammer Online's subscriber base at respectable levels since the game launched for PCs in September 2008. Today, though, Mythic announced its latest plan to give the game a booster shot of players, saying that a Mac edition of Warhammer Online will be available this fall.
Mythic is currently hosting a beta test for the Mac edition of Warhammer Online. To participate, current PC subscribers need simply download the Mac installation client through the game's official Web site. Those without a Warhammer Online account can also participate by downloading Warhammer Online's 10-day free trial, available through the same site. Mythic notes that Mac and PC players will share the same servers.
According to Mythic, the Mac edition of Warhammer Online is made possible by TransGaming's Cider Portability Engine. The technology streamlines the process of converting PC-based software code to that which is compatible with Apple's operating system.

...weeeeeeelllllll...good luck that! Ya, what sequekhan just said points out all the facts. Mythic, just move on to something else (and not a WAR2). Maybe what viscrealms just said, a WH40K MMO would be way better. The WH40K universe is much more diverse and creative than the regular WH.
Forget the fact this game is dead for one moment. Isn't Apple dead as a gaming platform? I get more fun out of eating a muesli bar.
Sorry but this game is a failure. I bought it for world PVP but it is non-existent, people just play on battlegrounds. This is a crippled WoW for me.. and I don't even like WoW.
I probably had the most fun in warhammer online during tier1 and tier 2 levels, after that it got stale and when you hit tier 4 it just got boring because there just wasn't more stuff to do. This was before land of dead patch and i've canceled my account so maybe things have changed for the better but it still needs more work.
I have never been much of a PvP'er so, Warhammer never appealed to me. Still, if adding it to Mac helps Creative Labs hurry up with a Warhammer 40k MMORPG then more power to them.
I wasn't very happy with WAR when I tried it about 4 months ago. Some might flog me for this, but I actually felt like I was playing WoW with a new set of graphics, and I can't stand WoW. No offense to those of you that love WoW, I tried it and I just can't stand it. Just not my thing. When I first booted up WAR I was hoping for something that resembled DAoC, the MMO that first introduced me to MMO's so a lot of loving nostalgia there.... And it just, wasn't. I don't believe we are going to have any real MMO's worth looking forward to until Aion (been in the past 3 closed betas and I am liking it well enough) or SW:ToR (SW fan and believe this will be my next home :-o ). Darkfall was a horrible let down and I'm not sure another superhero MMO is going to do much different than CoH/CoV already has so I am not sure what to think about Champions.
"A lot has changed in the game. Most people are commenting from months ago.Join a populated server and the game is quite enjoyable." It really wasn't that different when I tried it again for a month in April. After the early levels where mostly trial people were playing, the game was basically a ghost town. Don't think I'll be resubscribing anytime soon.
I ve played this game and instead of fixing class killing problems, they r putting the game more out there. Last yr or so they said they were going to Taiwan or something, now its the Mac, its doesnt matter because the game is bugged and the classes r a mess. This game is done.
Hmmmm, Why would Mythic do this? No Mac users would be that stupid to buy Warhammer...... I have a RR 70 Zealot on Iron Rock and the game is still extremely boring....
You know... if they had actually learned something from Blizz they would've made a Mac version AT THE SAME TIME as the PC version... durrrrrrr
Yeah, kill the messengers. Whenever someone mentions WoW, we get bad reviews. Guys, one very simple thing that War fails at: there is no sense of impact. Compare with WoW (negative reviews incoming): when i get hit, I see my char resenting from that. On War, most of the times when I get hit, I see nothing but the hp bar go down. That small thing alone would give a much better feel on the game. Warhammer has a gr8 background and lore. But the reality is that the game is BORING! Go play WoW (more negativity!), LotRO or EvE instead.
i enjoyed it during open beta but when it finally released it sucked. lagged like crazy and no one was around for public quests.
bah, yes alot has changed, but none of the stuff that are major problems have been touched. The pvp is still oversimplified, and overpacked with uber aoe abilities and one/two shot kills to the point were player skill is virtually irrelevent. They tried to make a pvp game to please everyone, and in the end only the lowest common denominators can enjoy the pvp for more then 5 mins. I believe this has led to some of the worst players in any mmo to date swarming this game.
A lot has changed in the game. Most people are commenting from months ago. Join a populated server and the game is quite enjoyable.
@P0T I couldn't agree more. The game had potential and for awhile it was a lot of fun. But I had pretty much all of the same claims that you did and they were enough reason to cause me to leave for just some console games and ditch MMO's for awhile. @czis Ah didn't know that they recently did those. Still it was just one of the many problems the game had, which the above poster had laid out pretty well. PvP is pretty fun in the game and certainly is more focal than in WoW, but it still has quite a few problems balance for instance. It had great potential to be the niche title that you chose as the WoW anti-thesis, but now I just can't see that many more people continuing to stick around.
Yeah I just quit recently too... for me the biggest problems were.. 1) Poor performance on high end pc's, (can't imagine the mac version will be smooth) 2) Class balance issues, I play an Archmage and have been force to respec 3 times bc. of patches, and now I'm getting a mechanic change. Every rev to the AM makes it worse 3) Lvl 30+ is a massive grindfest and it feels like a job. Once you break into T4 it is just terrible. 4) Not enough good PvE dungeons to balance out PvP The bottom line is at a certain point when your class sucks, it lags like crazy, no one helps you and you have to grind out 10 mil xp to get maxed out it just starts feeling like a job and not fun.
WAR looked like such a promising game. Not looking at launch bugs cause those can be fixed with patching what the game failed to deliver was its RVR system. Servers were empty often and didn't deliver the war is everywhere promise. Good on paper shame it didn't work out that way :( you cannot make a rpg that relies on loads of ppl being online to fight eachother when having 4 different Tiers. If the EU and US servers weren't split this might have worked out differently but im not a techy to know how that could or could not work
I enjoyed the game to about level 20. I got there with two different characters. It gets really really boring at that point. I am sure at level 40 it is probably fun but it is mind numbing once you hit 20.
This game is dying ... Couldnt keep me more than month on its release. Too bad for WAR.. Had tremendous potential , great ideas in it , though was the most OVERHYPED and unpolished MMORPG i ever played from a big company like Mythic EA...
The pvp isn't that great hence why the game is on life support with another mass exodus within the past month or two. The game still isn't balanced correctly. Some classes still suck, some classes are still overpowered. They recently did blanket nerfs on ALL AoE spells when only the mages really needed AoE nerfs. Servers are about dead, they just offered more transfers a couple weeks ago. My huge alliance of multiple guilds in WAR have all quit 1-2 months ago after Land of the Dead came out. It is a grind fest and has ruined RvR. The dominant side is always in LoTD while the outnumbered side runs around taking objectives undefended. To be competitive in the high end, you must grind out PvE in LoTD. To be competitive with talismans for your gear, you must grind 'scarabs' in LoTD every few days. Warhammer has failed big time which I hate to say because i've played it since Beta until a month ago. I spent alot of time and money on this game but they didn't fix the stuff people wanted. And the end game city sieges are boring, broken and mainly PvE. The graphics engine can't even handle "mass RVR" which the game advertised. Fighting in a fortress is so laggy, you get 1 attack off every 30 seconds while running at 4 FPS. This happens on top end PCs, the engine is clunky and unoptimized. You also get "stuck" many times a day on bushes or rocks.
@pwnzord - they have allowed server migration, the most recent round started this month. as to the fun factor NO game can compare to warhammer's PvP play, but if you prefer PvE then yeah - warcraft is 4 u
More people will read and respond to this article than will purchase it on the Mac. This will do nothing to combat one of the biggest problems this game has (server balance, something that Mythic could fix with migration but refuses to, hence the reason I left).
lol, sure they might get more customers, maybe 6 or 7 lol. seriously anyone who wants to play computer games already has a game-capable WINDOWS PC or (if you're using a mac) is dual-booting xp or vista.
WAR is a great game. Unfortunately, you have to REALLLY love PvP to get the most out of it. I like some PvP action, but not that much so I moved on. BUT, the game was good enough that I found that I couldn't get into WoW when I tried the WotLK trial for former subscribers. I played it for 2 of my 14 days and deleted it a month later when I remembered that I had downloaded it. WAR plays better and brought some good innovations to the MMO table. It also suffered from some tech issues at launch (nothing as bad as WoW's launch, but it's a different market today). If I decide to play an MMO anytime soon, it will be WAR. (And to the person who mentioned enjoying the LoTRO trial, I would caution that the first 20 levels of the game are fabulous, but it declines rather swiftly after that, IMHO).
I just got bakc into WAR. I was a closed beta tester but played Wrath when it was released. me and my brother are having a great time on the Badlands server. I dont think mac client is specifically done for sales, its something the community has asked for, and been askingf or a long time.
Do not purchase this MMO if you do not wish to be incredibly dissapointed. I played it from launch till' about a month and a half to 2 months ago. It's clear to me now that Mythic has no concept of class balance. Out of all the classes, only 3(6) are worth anything: Chosen/Ironbreaker Bright Wizard/Sorceror and DoK/Wp The rest are so horribly underpowered compared to the ones I listed, that the majority of the players that played them have quit the game.
Haven't played warhammer online yet, but want too...doesn't make much sense if there having a hard time keeping a base amount of players adding Mac players is a very short solution in the long run wont solve the problem, they should maybe be addressing why they can't keep a base to begin with! looking at the game itself
I didn't mean to say Mac was bad with my comment, but rather it is unpopular. I, however, have always wanted a Mac computer.
I like warhammer online, but something is amiss with this. hell at least it's better than WOW. But seriously when my PC runs Age of conan at highest settings without a hitch but chokes when more than a few players are on the screen in war, something is terrible wrong...
I liked Warhammer Online. I only wish it were less PVP reliant. The atmosphere was cool, but the fact that I played alone made it hard to get anything done when every ten feet a gang of lame high elves would gank me from behind.
What's the point? I can honestly say that the game gets boring very quickly, I'm afraid. Tried it at launch (terribly flawed) and returned to it 2x, just to get tired of it after 1 week of play. WoW is much, much better. But, if you really want another fantasy MMO and you're tired of WoW, I'd recomend LOTRO. Tried the trial, and that game sure feels nice, clean, smooth, and most of all, fun.
"Surviving" is a relative term when it comes to MMOs. Even Everquest is still around and people still play it. Warhammer Online isn't going anywhere soon.
