Warhammer 40K: Kill Team deploying onto XBLA, PSN

THQ bringing downloadable third-person arcade shooter to 360, PS3 online platforms in July; Space Marine multiplayer bonus included.

THQ will be delivering its big Warhammer 40,000 release, Space Marine, in August. Gamers hoping to first get in a little Waaagh!-repelling practice are in luck, as the publisher today announced a new downloadable effort based on Games Workshops' dark fantasy-meets-sci-fi universe. Titled Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team, the game will arrive for Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network this July.

In Kill Team, players assume control of a premier Space Marine unit that has been sent to take out a threatening Ork Kroozer. The interstellar ship of war is en route to an Imperial Forge World, and players will be charged with thwarting its warboss and preventing his world-consuming Waaagh!

Kill Team plays out as a third-person arcade shooter, and gamers will be able to assume the role of one of four classes. The Sternguard Veteran and Techmarine offer ranged-combat options, while the Vanguard Veteran and Librarian focus on close-quarters brawling. The game accommodates two-player split-screen.

As an added incentive, those who play through Kill Team's first mission will unlock the Power Sword for use in the aforementioned Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. The weapon, which is a powerful melee energy weapon, will be available in Space Marine's multiplayer mode.

Kill Team will be available for $10 (800 Microsoft points). For an idea of what to expect, check out THQ's new trailer for the game, below.

Tom Magrino has covered the games industry since 2006. He's been compared to Steve Martin by Ozzy Osbourne and Daniel Craig by Tim Schafer. His voice, heard largely on GameSpot's podcast, recalls that of Kermit the Frog. It ain't easy bein' Magreen.

This basically looks like a ported version of "Last Stand" mode from DoW 2 and made into a hack n' slash game. That's not a bad thing, especially for those that don't have a PC to play DoW, but it sort of is a jab at DoW owners by THQ saying "Hey! Look what more fun modes we can add to DoW 2 but don't!"

@demonkingx5 this is not the place to be advertising yourself, go to the forums to look for players.
