Unfinished Swan out October 23

Giant Sparrow's PS3-exclusive first-person painting game arriving a week early on October 16 for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

The Unfinished Swan now has a release date. The PlayStation 3-exclusive from independent studio Giant Sparrow will release through the PlayStation Network on October 23, the company announced today through the PlayStation Blog.

PlayStation Plus subscribers can get the first-person painting game a week early on October 16. No price for the game was announced.

The Unfinished Swan follows an orphan boy, Monroe, whose mother left him a painting of an unfinished swan. The swan emerges from the painting one evening, and Monroe follows it in an attempt to catch it. And on his journey, Monroe ultimately learns a lesson about himself.

Players enter a blank white world, and must throw splashes of black paint to reveal their surroundings. For more on The Unfinished Swan, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

I'll probably give it a go, even though I would have preferred a duck...

- Great title: check

- Beautiful art design: check

- Soothing music: check

- A seemingly perfect calming experience after playing Dark Souls DLC, which is coming out on the same day: check!

And the artsy indy genre takes off with another fleeting title that everyone will praise just to be accepted

 @KratosHump3R It's too bad. You're missing out on some great games from the sounds of it.

 @Bangerman15 Play Journey now. Anyone who plays it and doesn't automatically make it their Game of the Year doesn't know what they're doing.

I love these types of games. Their unique art style makes them stand out. And this First person painting gameplay hasn't been done before. Excited to see how they use it in the full game.

 @IEpic_rOxIS Microsoft is using their money to lock down DLC exclusivity.

 @Fiscaldeal  @IEpic_rOxIS Early DLC exclusivity**

Fixed that, PS3 is still the one getting permanently exclusive DLC.

I had a chance to speak to one of the guys who worked on this game. When he described it to me I didn't think it was very impressive, but he sent me a gameplay video and I was sold instantly.
