Uncharted 3 free-to-play client sees 350,000 downloads

Stand-alone multiplayer client reaches download milestone in under a month; new DLC to be available every month through June.

The Uncharted 3 free-to-play multiplayer client has been downloaded more than 350,000 times since launch late last month, Naughty Dog announced today through the PlayStation Blog.

The free-to-play version of Uncharted 3 multiplayer launched February 26, allowing gamers to play to level 15 for free. After that, gamers must pay $5 to raise the cap to 25 or $20 to remove the level cap altogether. Players can also spend money on a variety of items and map packs.

Naughty Dog did not divulge any information regarding how much revenue the 350,000 new Uncharted 3 players have brought in.

To support the Uncharted 3 free-to-play client, Naughty Dog announced today that it will release new paid downloadable content for the game every month through June 2013. This begins today with Oddball-themed character parts, which are based on the unofficial March 20 "Extraterrestrial Abductions Day."

I can't believe people are bitching about this,saying naughty dog is greedy. They let you play the multi-player of UC3 for free up to level 15. Even if you reach level 15 you can still play indefinitely but without levelling And you can pay to unlock levelling and weapons and items that doesn't sound to bad too me.

Free to Play is a common occurrence on PC not on consoles, this has just recently started on consoles with Killzone 3. Uncharted 3 is a AAA console game , tell me which AAA console game has made it's entire multplayer available for free? That is like Gears or Halo making it's multi-player is available on Live for free. Console Studios do not normally do this, so when a console developer makes it multiplayer available for free albeit restricted i don't really mind

I love Uncharted series but I do not like multiplayer too much, maybe because I am pretty average in it I do not know, I just dont dig it.

I still play this game sometimes and it was worth the season pass since they gave so much. It's good to see its going free-to-play since its such a fun game to play. Sorry GoW, I still love you but this game plays alot better.

That means if you want to RAISE the level cap, you must pay. NOT to keep playing, but the fact that you will be stuck at level 15.

Learn what free to play means, if you want certain features (like in this case, leveling up) then you must pay. Hence the title of this article FREE TO PLAY client.

Here is an article from Sony's site and the exact quote where I got my information.

"Once you download the Free-to-Play game from the PS Store you can hop online and play for as long as you want, as much as you want, up to Level 15. Upon reaching Level 15, you?re welcome to continue to play as long as you want without paying a penny more. I sure hope none of those people actually purchased any of those greedy micro-transactions. I know many people downloaded it simply for that one stupid online trophy to get their platinum, which they should have had long ago if they had not included a greedy online pass.

@Mr_Big_Boss unfortunately, they have to go down the micro-transaction route. and as for the trophy system crap, they did the same as Halo did with their achievements. But their online pass was way worth it than in CoD.

The future is leaning more towards DLC, microtransactions, free to play games and charge to unlock stuff that already should be there, plus other misc items that cost $$$.

What pisses me off the most are video games being designed around microtransaction like Dead Space 3. It degrades the quality of the game, and its design.

Still haven't gotten into the UC series, but never thought people would actually enjoy the multiplayer, from what I've seen, it looks very generic. Gonna have to buy those games soon.

@mtnjak I have the game and played twice, is fun but I found online shooters borings. Jumping and shooting all the time and nothing more.

@BoozerX @mtnjak Yes, running around aimlessly in circles, shooting anything that moves. Maybe If I had friends that I played with, on a team, with an actual objective. But I don't have friends that play and playing online with people I don't know just isn't appealing to me.

@mtnjak Nope, if it's story driven I never touch online, I'll go through the story twice before I even have the incentive. Though Assassins's Creed has been pretty good in multiplayer, I'd say better than the singleplayer in 3 honestly.

ain't nothing wrong with rewarding the gamers on a budget. Think I might fire up my uncharted 3 multiplayer again; but I just can't seem to pull my hands away from Metal Gear Rising Revengance. Gameplay is super fun.

I feel bad for F2P players. Someone like me who has had the game since launch and leveled all the boosters to gold and everything, I just destroy them. And I'm one of many who are in that situation. There needs to be less restrictions. As someone who bought the collectors edition, I would not feel betrayed at the slightest if the full multiplayer was entirely F2P. It's really a great multiplayer, I just don't think you'll get to experience it as a free player. I apologize for that on behalf of NaughtyDog, who sometimes decides to wear their ass on their head.
