How can a game that just won game of the year be overrated?

Uncharted 2 was by far the best game out this past year and anyone who disagrees is for sure retarded

We got Uncharted 2 & God of War 3 & Demons souls - so stick that up ur pipe chubby cheeks!

Uncharted 2 is one of the finest games I own. It is a solid masterpiece in everything.

The "Best Visual Art" GDC award is a total insult to the developers that have an outstanding talent to create truly artistic visuals. Uncharted 2 has the best technical graphics, and also has some great visual art, but it's far from being the best visual art of the year. But the most absurd pick is Modern Warfare 2. It has outstanding technical graphics, but the visual art is not even great. There were at least 10 games that deserved much more to be nominated for that category (Ex.: Muramasa, Brutal Legend, Trine, The Beatles: RB, Street Fighter IV, Batman: AA, etc...).

in an award show like this i wouldnt expect demons souls to win goty, but on reputable sites like gamespot and few others they gave credit where credit is due and that is realizing that demons souls is a brilliant and innovative game. it was my personal goty as well followed closely by uncharted 2

@DamnedApples: Tell me about it. Many games I play, and love, are panned by most critics. If a game had terrible graphics, terrible sound, yet was fun as heck to play, I would jump on it in an instant. Games aren't all about visuals and sound, and if something sticks in the mind of the critic, that's THEIR OPINION, NOT YOURS. Yes, it does contribute to the experience, but... oh well. I'm done.

@ DamnedApples Finally someone understand this! Games are not just about great visual or story: it's just about having fun! A game with the best visual of all time, with the greatest story ever made isn't worth anything if you don't have any fun with it! Anyway, it's just a matter of taste!

The original Uncharted is just as good as Uncharted 2, but the media was too busy taking M$ checks to be honest about things... huh welll not much has changed.

I COULD go on a rant about how the simple enjoyment gaming has been raped and butchered by self-anointed "experts" and the self-declared "hardcore gamer" (whatever the hell that means), but I've largely moved most of my rants to TheEscapist, since they seem to fall on deaf ears here. However, after a brief glance at these message boards, it seems little ever changes. People take the judgments of the "experts" as infallible, so long as they reaffirm their favorite titles, 'hardcore gamers" tend to refer to everybody who plays games simply for fun in a condescending manner, and young boys and girls who only got one console for their birthday vent their rage on the console they didn't get and its users. I'm going to say this for the last time. Your gaming experience is subjective to you--no critic, "expert", "hardcore gamer" can change that FACT. Games are about having fun. I happen to be an artist myself (drawing, painting--oils, acrylics, pastels, etc...), so I respect artistic expression as much or maybe more than the next guy. When a game blends art and entertainment very well (eg. Okami) then that is fine, but the primary merit of a game is how much fun YOU had playing it. Is LoTR: Conquest a very well-designed game? No. Was it fun to play it w/ some 4-player split-screen on New Year's Eve? Yup. But yeah, I won't waste anymore of your time and belabor the point. Thanks and Good day.

I'm glad to see that Uncharted 2 cleaned house at the awards. It was clearly the best game released last year (um, unless you listen to GameSpot, who thought Demon's Souls was). I'm surprised it also didn't win Best Game Design, but I guess Uncharted 2 couldn't have won every major award. At least it didn't win the Innovation award. Also, I bow before the greatness of John Carmack and Gabe Newell, for whom gaming owes a great debt.

PS3 is really dominating all of gaming. About time... loving FF13, and soon GOW3. Gaming might still have some life in it thanks to Sony.

the uncharted series so far is the one to beat for overall experence on a next gen console, but i'm mad at naughty dog. I really want a true jak sequel that doesn't feel tacked on but for me the series ended very well on ps2 with part 3. i don't want them to milk this just for the sake of the almighty dollar. *sigh* :>\ what to do...

@rp108 maybe because the PS3 has a large variety of exclusive games to choose from? Hmm, I guess sales don't mean much. Even more because MW2 and Halo 3 are Xbox 360's only good selling games in America only. It does poorly everywhere else O:

I've been playing games for 27 years and Uncharted 2 was right up there with my all time greats. The first song at the menu screen, I have to listen to completely through before I start playing the game. I love it.

Gabe Newell won Game Pioneer awards... That is surprising, consider that his game always stick on PC or 360 (which also use the PC architecture)
