UK Chart: DmC knocked to fourth as Black Ops II takes lead

Call of Duty takes its first UK No. 1 in 2013.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II has taken first place in the UK charts this week, with Capcom and Ninja Theory's DmC: Devil May Cry slipping to fourth after being unable to keep the top spot for two weeks running.

It's the first time Black Ops II has topped the chart in 2013. FIFA 13--which took the charts for the first two weeks of January--is in second, and Ubisoft's island romp Far Cry 3 is third.

The usual suspects fill out the top 10: Assassin's Creed III, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Just Dance 4, Football Manager 2013, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Hitman: Absolution.

The only new release last week was The Sims 3: '70s, '80s, '90s Stuff, which entered the charts in 36th. This Friday sees the much-loved Studio Ghibli JRPG Ni No Kuni landing on shop shelves, but will it be able to make the charts next week?

Both Black Ops 2 and DmC are a slap in the face to gaming. The only difference is that Black Ops 2 doesn't alienate its core audience. Capcom believes that alienating your fanbase and making the game appeal to trolls we make the game sells millions. 

Before anyone say that they're supporting Ninja Theory not Capcom, just to let you know that Ninja Theory was just as much of a douchebag to the DMC fanbase as Capcom is to anyone.

Black Ops & MW have become a much more social experience, on XBL anyway, cant speak for the PS3 (that isnt a 'Bash' either), just my observation from owning one and having regular access to the other.

It is my opinion that the MW & BLOPS franchises sell so well not just because of game itself as much as the fact that evereyone talks, allbeit in the form of 12 year old rants, but thankfully, thats were the 'Mute' feature comes into its own : )

Its also nice to see Far Cry 3 holding its own, brilliant game!

"Smoth plataforming? Ok the original series has Sucky platforming, ill give Ninja theory that. Boss Battle Sucks majoer ass in previous DMC the boss battle were the best part ( FOR MY) of the game."

I'm glad Farcry 3 is still selling well... That was my GOTY 2012. As far as "DmC" goes, I can't say I'm surprised. It's hard to force sales when the core audience isn't behind it. No matter how much Gamespot tries...

Call of Duty sells so well because they have a HUGE casual core audience that doesn't really care what the next game turns out like. Sounds crazy, I know, but that's the power of popularity. Just ask Apple how they make a killing off of their overpriced products...

The only reason DMC was at no 1. last week was because it had a 3 day head start. In my not so humble opinion, Ninja Theory's DMC sucks, and is a spit in face to DMC fans around the world. I'm so glad its not selling...

No hate against Ninja Theory... just don't like them changing the DMC universe. Vergil is just sad this time around...

It's better than DmC 2 and 4 for sure.  Gameplay-wise, I'd put it slightly under 3 and slightly over 1.  The story and characters are far better than in any of the others.  It deserves to sell well, but fanbabies are crying a bit too loudly for their horrible cliché-ridden storytelling and androgynous frat boy protagonist.

I really hope DmC sells well enough to warrant a sequel- I thoroughly enjoyed the new game

@grey_fox1984 The only reason I would like to see a "DmC" sequel is because Capcom is clearly incapable of making a proper DMC 5. So hopefully they stay far away from the original franchise.

Let the true DMC rest in peace if Kamiya isn't going to be involved.

I don't think anyone at Capcom took the DmC series seriously.

@Mrod1212 @M3o5nster @grey_fox1984 He was originally tasked with creating Resident Evil 4, and making the jump to the ps2. He ended up making Devil May Cry. He even wrote a novel for DMC in Japan.

Later Crapcom chose another creative lead for DMC2, in which Kamiya expressed his appointment. He would say later on that Capcom never pushed the envelope with DMC in terms of Action.

I've always felt that Bayonetta was his response to Capcom messing up the franchise...

 the only game which is most powerful is an Skyrim as it was released last year and still in top ten and  i hope good for Halo4, NeedforSpeed MW, Borderland2. The tributed title is WWE 13 of currently dissolved THQ

not surprising that Black ops is in the top it's one of the best games of 2012 but Assassin's Creed III at the top of  Need for Speed: Most Wanted come on need for speed is a hit and i loved it but can't say bout all games coz i didn't play them all but come on Forza Horizon is so good why the hell is it 19th !!!!!

DmC was #1 in UK as well on week one. vgchartz hasn't updated yet so it's still only week one sales. You can't say DmC is #1 worldwide this week (week 2 for DmC) simply because it's #1 worldwide on last week.

I'm not sure how much clearer I can explain that...
