Ubisoft: Watch Dogs' Chicago will feel alive
Creative director says thanks to power of next-generation consoles, NPCs will no longer feel like "robots that follow a sidewalk."
The Chicago in Ubisoft's upcoming open-world game Watch Dogs will feel like it is alive as a result of the power of next-generation consoles, according to creative director Jonathan Morin.
"Thanks to the next-gen, we can push the limits; we can make the player believe that when he does something, there are causes and consequences. I think that for the first time, players will not only be in a city, they will feel that people live in that city," Morin told Xbox Wire. "After all, every city is defined by its inhabitants."
Morin added that new technology like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 allow developers like Ubisoft to "go even further."
"For the very first time, NPCs around you are no longer robots that follow a sidewalk," Morin said. "They are real human beings with their own lives."
Ubisoft said last month that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Watch Dogs will feature fewer simultaneous onscreen characters. Though players won't get the same sense of crowd, the developer said all versions of Watch Dogs will be essentially "the same game."
Watch Dogs launches for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC on November 19. The Xbox One and PS4 versions will be released sometime this holiday.
Ubisoft expects the game to sell more than 6.2 million units. For more, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of Watch Dogs.
