Ghost Recon: Future Soldier studio signs on David Votypka as new senior creative director following closure of Homefront dev.
THQ shuttered Homefront creator Kaos Studios just over two weeks ago, but it hasn't taken long for the studio's creative leader to land a new gig. Kaos' former creative director and general manager David Votypka has updated his LinkedIn profile to indicate that he has been hired on at Ubisoft Red Storm as the studio's new senior creative director.
Ubisoft Red Storm is best known for its work on the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six franchises. The studio, which is based in Cary, North Carolina, is currently at work on Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, which is slated to arrive for platforms that include the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in March 2012.
Kaos Studios sent THQ on a roller-coaster ride when it launched Homefront in March. After the game received review scores that came in on the low side of positive, the publisher experienced a wave of investor panic, with its stock at one point trading down more than 20 percent. Shortly thereafter, THQ announced that the game had shipped more than 2.6 million units.
With Kaos closed, future work on the series will be handled at the nascent THQ Montreal. That studio is being run by former Assassin's Creed creative director Patrice Desilets.
2012 is too soon. But I do realize that one of the reasons to do so would be to steal some storm hype from the Wii U. I say keep waiting because once they announce a new console the current consoles (X360 and PS3) will be perceived as more and more outdated and dull by the consumer market. I wish they'd wouldn't announce them b4 2013. And no, 2012 won't be the end of the world. ;)
jeez THQ homefront wasn't great but it's not like it was bad or anything. I mean the mechanics were ok and it was a fairly neat premise.
The best Rainbow Six AND Ghost Recon games came from a free Red Storm (before Ubi bought them), and that was the way it should be. Hopefully this means Ubisoft has plans to treat RS a little better.
See THQ? This is what happens when you fire your employees, they get recruited by your competitors and you lose out.
Lets GO! "Rainbow Six for 2012 or 2013" ... Way to many CLONED COD games out there..its getting Redundant Repetitive and above all RECYCLED.
the bigger problem is they targeted an oversaturated market, and when you fail to meet high expectations it really shows
@austi722 I totally agree with you on Homefront man and yes it was really short and hopefully when the Homefront 2 come's out it will be longer. I'm looking forward to Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and I guess this is great news for some one who left or got released from their old job.
