Ubisoft 'interested' in THQ's assets

No ubi don't infest THQ games with your horrid drm that failed from day one but you want throw out. 

Please, Ubisoft, just... die.

I do love the Metro series. Hmm an Ubisoft produced Metro. This is both interesting yet scary to think about.

I'm surprised nobody talks about this more but the UFC was one of the final nails in the coffin for THQ. They went in there thinking they'd struck gold with "the fastest growing sport" but it turned out no one was interested so UFC 3 wound up bombing pretty badly when THQ thought it would be one of their major successes. No different to how FOX thought they were onto something big signing the UFC but it wound up getting horrible TV ratings.

UFC  is bad luck for anyone getting involved with them. They talk a big game which makes investors throw money at them but there's nothing under the hood.

Truth be told I've never been a particularly big THQ fan, but I'll be disappointed if they lose the South Park or Metro games they're working on.

if anyone should buy them it should be Ubisoft, i think they would treat the titles with respect

Funny thing is Patrie Desilet went from Ubisoft to THQ. So I guess now he will get back to ubi...

Hang in there THQ! THQ actually produces a somewhat disproportionate amount of good games (compare Activision or EA, who produce a disproportionate amount of crap for their size). Of all these big publishers, I'd say Ubisoft's probably the least likely to completely destroy any franchises they get control of, but it'd still be best if THQ stayed an independent company and got back on its feet.

I would like to see Homefront actually done right, instead of how THQ screwed over Kaos. I think Crytek is working on Homefront 2, so hopefully no worries there. Homefront's MP had so many great ideas, but were marred by execution. I think Ubisoft would do a great job with the series.

What about the warhammer 40k RPG? 

As long as the WWE games are taken care of i'm good on this deal.

While Ubisoft is "interested" in THQ, how about bringing the Red Faction series to GOG (DRM-free). Ubisoft already has Assassin's Creed, Beyond Good & Evil, and the Prince of Persia trilogy on GOG. So, if ya get THQ's catalog, bring their golden oldies to GOG too.

Whelp this makes me wonder if Space Marine 2 or Dawn of War 3 will ever see the light of day.

finally! let THQ die, and let Ubisoft take over their stronger runner WH40K, maybe they can produce a SpaceMarine 2 or WH40K 3  that can take advantage of what the franchise has to offer, with stronger focus on multiplayer this time :P

Ubisoft should grab Darksiders and Saints Row

THQ is good at Warhammer and SR3 is a very good game. They should focus more on WH games as nobody else makes anything WH related so they could cash on that.

Even if they made just WH games the lore is so wast it dwarfs pretty mach anything and is very interesting, so they can easily expand and maybe even relate story events between games.

As for Ubi buying anything from them, well i wouldnt want it because it would probably be plagued by some cryptic draconian drm.

Hell no...after seeing how much Ubisoft decayed and made a fool of itself on PCs, buying THQs would be very very bad news. :(

It's important to read the whole original interview to know the entire context of Guillemot's comments. I don't think Ubisoft is too interested in THQ. THQ is not big on casual games, an area that Guillemot specifically emphasized in the interview. Homefront and Metro are both commercially risky. Darksiders and Warhammer are on the decline. Ubi has next to zero RTS/RTT expertise, so the acquisition of CoH without Relic would be virtual IP suicide; not to mention acquiring a PC-centric IP by a company with dwindling PC presence is itself counter-intuitive. Saint's Row is the most likely choice, but it is also THQ's trump card. I don't see THQ's giving that up unless the company is going under with absolute certainty. I guess some of the less well-known franchises are possible purchases, but why would Ubi bother?
