[UPDATE] Kalypso bringing fourth city simulator to computers later this year; Xbox 360 version to follow in mid-September; North American release slated for August 30.
Gamers hoping to take a trip to the banana republic of Tropico 4 won't have to wait long to do so. Kalypso today sent word that the city simulator is slated to arrive in the UK on August 26. An Xbox 360 iteration of Tropico 4 will follow sometime in mid-September in the region.
Kalypso did not provide a release date for the North American iteration of Tropico 4, and as of press time, the publisher had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.
As for the new game, Tropico 4 brings players back to the island nation of Tropico, where gamers are cast as El Presidente, the compassionate (or nefarious) ruler of the land. More specifically, Tropico 4 includes a 20-mission campaign set on 10 distinct environments and packs in 20 new buildings, including a shopping mall, aqua park, and stock exchange.
Additionally, the game incorporates new interactive disasters like tornadoes, volcanoes, and droughts to wreak havoc on the inhabitants of the banana republic.
The PC version of Tropico 4 will also feature social media integration via Facebook and Twitter. Players will be able to tweet and update their Facebook statuses in game to tell the world of their virtual feats.
[UPDATE] Kalypso has dated Tropico 4 for North America. The game is due out on PC on August 30. An Xbox 360 iteration will follow in mid-September.

would be pretty nice to import some songs. The music of the 3 become totally annoying after you heard them 20 times each.
Never really played any tropico games until a few months back steam had tropico 3 on offer, the game was a blast and i was quite suprised i had not seen it around before... I will probally pick this one up at some point as well :)
Just played the Tropico 4 demo a while ago, and it was pretty fun despite being the same as the Tropico 3 demo. But since I've never played Tropico (exluding the demos), I may as well pick this one up if it scores good.
i JUST beat tropico 4's demo the 2nd time in a row.. it was a really good demo.. havent played tropico since tropico 1 so im definitely getting it... late game gets really deep with world politics and dealing with protestors. really cool game im getting it and recommend it to anyone that doesnt have tropico 3 or misses sim city/nation building games
too similar to Tropico 3 and they seem to have lost the unique charm that Tropico 1 had... personally I think skyscrapers & gigantic concrete jungle don't really fit into the 'Tropico' theme. now Tropico is getting more and more like SimCity.
''James Maugans just plundered 5 cities and built a shopping mall in tropico-4!'' .............facebook just got a whole lot more interesting ;)
Really underwhelmed by the demo. Basically Tropico 3 with a few changes. Was hoping for more, this was on my list to buy when it came out. Ended up moving to when Steam has it really cheap.
I loved Tropico 3, but I'm not paying full price for a mediocre expansion. Really disappointed after playing the demo.
How stupified/ dumbed down will this game be? it simply cant work on gamepad controls when its not moronized to 1 button mashing level
