Tomb Raider: GOL gets crossover characters

Crystal Dynamics confirms hitmen Kane and Lynch, vampires Raziel and Kain to be added to downloadable cooperative action game.

In August, Crystal Dynamics laid out three months' worth of add-on content plans for its downloadable action game Tomb Raider: Guardian of Light. Among the plans were a pair of add-ons featuring new playable characters from other Eidos-published games. While the developer didn't say at the time which characters would be making guest appearances, the studio's official Twitter feed today detailed exactly which familiar faces players can expect.

Gamers tired of raiding tombs as the default pair of Lara Croft and Totec will soon be able to replace them with the gruesome twosomes of Kane & Lynch or the Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver series. The studio is letting gamers pick which pack is released first, casting their votes with Twitter posts directed "@CrystalDynamics." Both packs were scheduled for release by the end of the year.

Kane and Lynch will be representing the IO Interactive-developed third-person shooter series that bears their name. The odd couple pairing of a psychopathic killer and a hired assassin debuted in 2007's Kane & Lynch and returned for an encore this year with Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days.

The other pair of downloadable characters--Kain and Raziel--are pulled from Crystal Dynamics' own Legacy of Kain series of action adventure and role-playing games. The franchise began in 1996 with the release of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain on the original PlayStation and quickly expanded. In 1999, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver put the focus on Raziel. Both games received sequels before Legacy of Kain: Defiance ushered the franchise into hibernation in 2003.

    @Waranabatokwa i think, but don't quote me on this. But all that happened was that the elder god died, and he said he would be back or somthing. Pus theres little story things that never got fixed. Like the rebuilding of kains vampire empire, or the recontruction of Raziels clan. Trust me theres lot of story materal floating around which they could make a sequel from.

    How about instead of some BS non canon dlc, they give us a new Legacy of Kain game? Seems like a much better use of resources.

    Crystal Dynamics DESTROYED the storylie Silicon Knights had created with Blood Omen and Soul Reaver. That's what happens when you switch writers and game studios.

    Im really tempted now to buy Tomb raider GOL, i mean this is gonna be the first time we get to play Kane and Raziel this generation. Granted maby not in there own game. But still.. I hope to god we get a new Soul Reaver game.

    OMG i LOVED the legacy of kain and Soul Reaver games, Defiance was Wicked, loved it and been wanted another game. maybe they might do another one, or make HD versions of all 'OMFG if they did i would be buying that'

    At first I felt kind of offended, "Kane & Lynch or the Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver", what question is that?? I guess they already made the characters Kain and Raziel and just want to know how much popular the LoK series are these days. I meant, there must be something else in that stupid question, it doesn't make sense... so, the real question "Would you Like another LoK game?" YES!!!!! please!!! everybody that use twitter show his support for LoK series!!!!!

    @ IrshDrkWlf : Indeed, it's pretty obvious that the writer of Twilight just completely ripped off the storyline from Queen of the Damned. It still amazes me that she was able to take a cool movie and make it completely gay though. That's impressive.

    The inclusion of Kain and Raziel has actually made me sort-of interested in this game. If they are more than reskins I'd actually consider buying it just to play them.

    We don't want more DLCs, CD, we want 2 things: 1. New Blood Omen 3: Legacy of Kain game (developed for the pc, single-player RPG and leave Raziel out of it) and 2. A playable version (including cinematics) of the first Blood Omen game (preferably on Steam). Do that and scrap these uninspired plans for DLCs... My 2 cents

    It would probably be difficult for any Twilight fan. Twilight is actually just a teenage version of Anne Rice mixed with Underworld and a very old episode of the Ghostbusters cartoon. Which we all know Anne Rice was very influenced by Bram Stoker. Sorry Twilight fans, but those are not werewolves, they are called wolfweres the character Jacob states this with the story of his tribe. Werewolf - a human with wolf features, Wolfwere - wolf that turns into a human. And remember real Vampires don't sparkle, they are too noble for that.

    My vote would go to Kain and Raziel much better games and characters than Kane and Lynch were, but I don't use that weak message board Twitter. So those who do use it need to vote Kain and Raziel first, nothing like a vampires to take on Lara croft puzzles.

    Kain & Raziel...in this new technology..i mean the 2010 graphics,gameplay etc....think about it...even with the old graphics was suuuper awesome....but with this new technology of graphics and gameplay...wow..i really wish to be a new Legacy of Kain....(sorry 4 my bad english)

    Really enjoyed Guardian of Light as a co-op action/adventure, and I'm a HUGE fan of Kain and Raziel. I'll buy the pack if only to show support in the hopes that we get another chapter in such an amazing series! This pretty much made my day

    Not for me. A Lara Croft adventure shouldn't be tarnished by kane and Lynch. Lara Croft is the first lady of gaming and Kane and Lynch shouldn't be allowed anywhere near her.
