Tomb Raider delayed to 2013

Lara Croft origin story pushed back to allow Crystal Dynamics to "fully deliver the very highest quality game"; new screenshot teasing upcoming E3 content.
The upcoming Tomb Raider title currently in development at Crystal Dynamics has been delayed from Q3 2012 to Q1 2013.
The announcement came today via a post on the official Eidos Games forums, in which Crystal Dynamics studio head Darrell Gallagher outlined the developer's reasons for delaying the title:
"Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest-quality game," Gallagher said in the message. "In order to do this, we have decided to move the game's release date by a few months, from fall 2012 [spring in Australia] to the first quarter of 2013."
"We're doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game, and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve. We believe this is the right choice, and I guarantee it will be worth the wait."
As a consolation prize, the studio also released a screenshot in preparation for more information about the game, which will be revealed during this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo in June.
Last year, it was revealed that Crystal Dynamics would be exploring Lara Croft's beginnings in the upcoming Tomb Raider title. Earlier this year, the studio also announced that it had no plans to release the game on the Wii U.
Set for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, Tomb Raider is the first installment in the series since 2010's downloadable multiplayer-focused Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and the first stand-alone game since 2008's Tomb Raider: Underworld.

1 Like Something tells me that nobody even cares... The only respectable Tomb Raider that come out was the 1st one, and that was....almost 15 years ago...WOW! Here we are still hammering away a dying franchise... I'm appalled that gamers still get excited for Tomb Raider despite it's laughable movies and utterly disappointing sequels & spin-offs. Duke Nukem would like to share his coffin with you Lara, because you're franchise is DEAD!

You don't know what the heck you're talking about.
This is quite important, because although they failed to make a new start with "Underworld", which I as a fan found a mistake, and I really liked "Legend", but they failed with that title trying to make it "next-gen" as well.
Now, they're actually going back to the origins and absolutely rebooting the franchise in the right way, clearly they're TRYING to do it right and not rush it out the door.
I was honestly impressed with the raw gameplay they showed long ago and I think it will be good.
I'm not a fanboy, but I was a fan of the first three or four, then of "Legend" as well.
Later on with "Underworld" and all that, it was done for me and 'Uncharted' absolutely showed how a "tomb raider adventure"-game was supposed to be done TODAY. It totally replaced 'Tomb Raider' for me, and Lara could shake her butt all she liked, but that just won't cut it.
I like the direction they're going now, they're admitting that they weren't doing it right, so now it's time to make up for it.
This is happening BECAUSE the franchise died out, so open your eyes.
And this is going to be nowhere the disaster that's called 'Duke Nukem Forever', they just didn't know how to do it.
Have you even seen the gameplay-footage of 'Tomb Raider'??...

4 years is not abnormally long for the entire development cycle. If you don't like it, don't buy it.
@swamptick A lot of games had an even longer cycle, of course. I'm not against making games for 5 or more years. I'm against (numerous) delays, when developers continually shatter my hopes and expectations.
As for this game, Uncharted 2's cycle was 2 years sharp and I HIGHLY doubt that it'll be better than Uncharted...

Aslong as its good when it does finally come out I'll be happy, there hasn't been a good Tomb Raider game since the PS2 days :(
They've probably pushed it back till they can figure out a way to make her tits completely fill the screen. Why the hell would anyone want to play a Tomb Raider game for any reason these days?
I love how almost every big game that comes out these days gets pushed back for some "insert something that sounds good reason here".
Just tell us it isn't near completion.We will understand.
1 Like Sucks it got delayed just like Bioshock Infinite both of those were in my top 10 most anticipated but at least I got something to look forward to in 2013.
@mrgrizzyd I've NEVER played a tomb raider game...I can't imagine that they would be all that profitable...
my God can we get a Tomb Raider game with perfect controls ???? All I ask for but I think that would be a miracle

1 Like @psycho75 Completely agree. As much as I hate that it is delayed, I still support Crystal Dynamics and believe they truly are making the right decision for the best of the fans.

@hippiesanta How is UC3 comparable to the new Tomb Raider? I can see how it would be in some ways with the previous titles, but how so this one? Tomb Raider has taken a new direction that not even Uncharted has taken.
@hippiesanta And also, not to bash on Uncharted (I do love the series), but it had it's tendency to throw waves of enemies to shoot at. I don't remember any of the Tomb Raiders that has done that.
4 Like People complaining about this really need to take a deep breath and try to remember what a "rushed" game looks like *cough* Mass Effect 3. I'd rather wait for a good finished product then play a bad rushed version now, just saying...
1 Like Good, this is awesome news. Almost every developer out there is pushed to release their product by a certain date, whether or not it's finished. Basically that always ends up in a shitty unfinished game that pisses off and disappoints everyone. Halo 2, Mass Effect 3, and KOTOR spring to mind.
Arghh!!! Noooo!!! I wonder when the game companies will really stick to their word? All these delays only fuels the pain of waiting. Damn! I am gonna miss "LARA" this year.

@freefadi Though i agree with your statement on any other game, think of it with this one. I'm sure they aren't going to do any sort of online with Tomb Raider, but imagine how a good Co-Op or multilayer with this game could be. I admit, hard for me to imagine one for this particular game but it isn't a typical shooter. Just saying. Something to give some thought about. :)
4 Like @freefadi Co-op with a buddy next to you is fun. Online co-op and most of the online multiplayer nowadays - not fun.
@NightFox313 yo thats what I'm saying split screen is the best co-op and on against another, far cry 3 i hope will have that chance unlike farcry2 , i hope it'll be the same for this tomb raider
