ToeJam & Earl and ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron will be out as single downloads and as a bundle on PSN and XBLA.
Sega has announced that it will be re-releasing the ToeJam & Earl games on PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 6.
The two titles on the Sega Genesis, ToeJam & Earl and ToeJam &Earl in Panic on Funkotron, will be on sale on PSN and XBLA for $4.99 apiece. Sega will also release a bundle of the two games, dubbed the Sega Vintage Collection: ToeJam & Earl. This pack will be out on November 7, and will cost gamers $10 on PSN and 800 Microsoft Points on XBLA.
Both titles will feature online co-op and new achievements and trophies for their respective platforms. For more information on the last ToeJam & Earl title, check out GameSpot's coverage on ToeJam & Earl III: Mission To Earth.
Took a while, eh? The PC version is already available via Sega Genesis Classics Series. Steam and Amazon have it, and it's DRM-free on Gamersgate. Sega kinda dragged their feet bringing it to PSN and XBLA.
I would not play a game like this without the ability to save and load at any time.
I really hated those early console games which had game over screens and no option to retry.
The PC versions of Sega's old Genesis/Mega Drive games (Steam/Amazon/Gamersgate) feature save slots and even screenshot captures. I already have TJ&E, Phantasy Star IV, Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Gunstar Heroes for PC off Gamersgate (DRM-free) and the save slots work.
@CommodoreRaslin That's why it was fun though! The challenge to not die, the game over screens and having to refine your skills after starting all over again from the very start.
Back then very few games allowed for saving. The joys of having your ego and confidence crushed by the old game over screens, great fun.
I already have the first game on my wii. Glad more people will be able to purchase them. Great fun! :)
This brings me back to the days, I grew up with a Sega Genesis and loved playing these games. Loved opening those presents, random levels, and of course rocket skates. The price is a bit much considering though.
Now if they could just release General Chaos, on PC would be fantastic! :)
I wonder how well these games will hold up today, I played them back in the 90s and enjoyed them. That was then though, I wonder if they'll still be playable and enjoyable today.
May have to try a trial of the pack on release and see how they hold up, if I like them and they're still playable then I'll buy them.
@hobotech64 The Toejam And Earl titles haven't been in any of the Sega collections, they almost were but they were replaced with Altered Beast.
This was one of the best games out on the Sega Genesis.
I really hope this will work on the PS Vita. If so, I will pick it up. I don't care for the online play. I would just love to have this game again on a handheld. I still got the original cartridge in the attic.
You can't beat opening a present on TJ&E only to find a pair of rocket skates and uncontrollably shoot off the edge of the island.
Loved the games back in the day... severely concerned about how this has aged though. I'm not sure the humor is going to hold up.
Awesome I am totally getting this. My friend and I used to play co op in the first one all the time when we were kids. Got I miss the 90's.
Um, why not throw out an update for the Xbox TJ&E so I can play it on my xbox 360 while you're at it Sega?
Jammin'! Completing games like this was a genuine challenge back in the day due to not being able to save :) took me MONTHS.
I always used to get Toe Jam and Earl mixed up with Earthworm Jim. Played the crap out of EWJ, but never played TJ&E. Anyone else remember Earthworm Jim? I swear that game had to be made by a Japan dev.
Ah now this is a blast from the past! They were great fun games. But 5quid for each? Theres other ways to get them for less...
I only played the 1st one on genesis and boy that was tough !! And finished the game Solo :D Good Ol' days when we had all the time in the world to enjoy our games, sad time flies :(
Wow,.. hopefully this paves the way for some of my more favored Genesis and SNES games ;) Boogerman? Chaos Engine? Ohh yeeehh
The levels weren't random.
While the game had the option to randomize the contents of the presents, the code needed to allow it to randomize the levels while also ensuring the level was beatable would probably have required more space than would fit on the cartridge.
