Crytek UK--nee Free Radical Design--says it is in "concepting" stage for all-new FPS with emphasis on single-player, multiplayer.
If Free Radical Design had to go, Haze probably wouldn't have been the studio's swan song of choice. The oft-delayed PlayStation 3-exclusive debuted to limited commercial success, not to mention a critical drubbing, in May 2008 and was cited as a primary reason that Free Radical couldn't secure new publishing deals for TimeSplitters 4 or any of its other projects, as the game industry struggled through the worst months of the global economic meltdown.
Still, Free Radical was granted an 11th-hour reprieve after filing for bankruptcy in December, when Crysis creators Crytek said it would be purchasing the studio's remaining assets and business. Renamed Crytek UK, the studio now appears to be gearing up to take another crack at creating an all-new intellectual property.
"We are currently concepting up an original IP that we hope will become a defining game series for the UK studio," studio manager Karl Hilton recently told UK gaming magazine Develop. "However, in reality, the opportunity to make any kind of original [first-person shooter] genre game where we get to focus on the quality of both the multiplayer and single player experience is what drives people at the studio."
Beyond Haze, Crytek UK is perhaps best known for its farcical FPS franchise TimeSplitters, which was known as much for its strong multiplayer component as its ponderous affinity for monkeys. In 2007, the studio announced it was working on TimeSplitters 4, said to be in development for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii. Hilton did not indicate how the studio's new project would impact development of the game, and Crytek had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.

I have been anticipaing this for years, and years. Just like a hell of alot of other people. But the fact is, even if free radical/Crytek Uk are working on a new franchise, surely it will also be an EPIC game? either way, i wont complain.
I still can't decipher what I just read, but I LOVE TimeSplitters. It was the best shooting game I ever played. I personally think it's better than Halo. With Crytek's skills at making next gen games, them making TimeSplitters would be the best thing since sliced bread. Stop focusing on new products that won't go anywhere and make TimeSplitters 4!
me want that game so badly, time splitters 2,3 were one of the best FPS games ever , the diffirent weapons ranging from sci-fi guns to real life ones to vantage guns, that game was a blast to play and it had millions of modes to keep you busy. i cant wait for TS4 please make it and dont kill the franchise
before I begin I need to say Spendo is a Noob, you do know that free radical had about 75% of the staff members who were working on goldeneye back in rares hayday dont you? the first 2 original timesplitters were pretty much a total clone of the mechanics used in goldeneye with an enhanced multiplayer element, sci fi weapons and better graphics. watch both games side by side and you will see the similarities. even some of the AI movements in timesplitters1 can be seen in goldeneye to a certain degree. Anyway I digress. It goes without saying Timesplitters was without a doubt one of the best games of the last generation and still has a large fellowship of fans. and the trend would continue if crytek uk were to make timesplitters 4 which im sure they will do eventually. Its too big of a cash cow to turn down. so long as EA aren't grasping the helm with creative rights. the game should be fine.
Reading these posts and i hate the fact everytime an fps comes out or about to come out you base it on goldeneye does this look like a 007 series nope, i cant stand golden eye i absolutley didnt like it at all i prefer time splitters and even games like 007 nightfire to golden eye but the subject here is timeplitters not golden eye not haze but time splitters dont go comparing for some games that have totaly different story lines characters and a game you havent even played yet. besides that i rekon this could be quite a good fun multiplayer timespliters 3 was so i rekon this can be too
i think all of them were great, the first because of the weapons, the second because of the military men,and the third because of the different monkey's.so i really think the 4th is gonna be awesome.
I never really liked Time Splitters 3. I always prefered 2. But then again, that's just me. So long as this is good, I'll enjoy.
Timesplitters 3: Future Perfect was one of my favourite games of all time. Multiplayer aside, that campaign was f****** superb. Cortez ftw
@ Thatguysawesome What the hell are you talking about? Rare was a two generation wonder before Microsoft bought them.
Timesplitters 3 was a joke... It took everything I knew and loved about Timesplitters 2 and balooned it and made it easier. More monkeys, more outrageous characters, more multiplayer modes, Less fun, and less difficulty.
Timesplitters is a great IP, they should really be focusing on it rather than a new property. The key thing for them is for the customer and the critics to trust them again...what better way than with an established franchise loved by many? New IP's by all means, but Timesplitters 4 first.
If enough people want it to happen? That's ALL they should be working on! Timesplitters was a great multiplayer game. All I want is for the 4th one to come out. Great modes in that game...flame tag? Virus? So fun...
Everyone wondering TimeSplitters 4 status. Basically in August this year they said they've halted development on it, BUT they'll work on it again if enough people want it to happen.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, no new ips yet! Please timesplitters 4, come on! im down for new ips, but i want my timesplitters! In a world where FPS take themselves to seriously, you could always count on timespliters to save the day! Now, ITS TIME TO SPILT! (thats right i said it)
alot of people dont remember where alot of free radical - err, crytek uk's employes came from. rare... some people as old as i recall with fondness a certain little title called goldeneye. timesplitters was good, but it wasnt quite goldeneye. heres to another resurrection, and seeing if these guys still have the magic. if anyone had to bail them out, im glad it was crytek. heres cheers.
The TimeSplitters series was one of my favorite FPS' (And I'm not even really a fan of FPS!) But with all the many different modes, the create your own levels, and vast amount of characters, it was an epic win. Update all of that and bring it on-line for multi-player and it'll be a must buy for me.
Hopefully this continues the string of similar, yet all awesome shooters: Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Timesplitters Series, and now this new IP...... I'm hoping though that what they are talking about is indeed TS4...I would poop my pants a little bit if it is.
Hopefully they will keep timesplitters to the original form cause those games were the most awesome things to come out as fp's
its had its day leave it alone make somthing new . they cant just keep living with the old thats why i think boarderlands will be a good game just like bioshock, pray, the darkness all great games without living of of old games
Timesplitters was truly an awesome series of games....I hope free radical can continue to make quality games....i just wasn't really happy with haze and to consider making a ps3 exclusive...why??
hmmmmmmmmmm edit: were half of u users preteens or something back in 2005 my god scared to play a level, couldn't get because of blood!!!
Good- Timesplitters had phenomenal gameplay, but it's story and concept was always kind of crap. As long as the roving aiming survives and the game is NOTHING like Crysis I'll be happy. If it bundles in TS2 and 3 then it'd be all the better.
Timesplitters was kind of crap. Free Radical was made up of Ex Rare employees that left after Goldeneye. However they never made a game that evolved from what Goldeneye was. I hope that Crytek cleans up the mess that they became by the time that Haze released.
I loved Timesplitters 2 but it scared the CRAP out me. :P I can't stand that dark Notre Dame level.. Looking forward to TS4!
