THQ puts another SmackDown! on PS2
WWE Superstars put the hurt on one another with new match types and modes in SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006.
While the death of WWE Superstar Eddie Guerrero has cast a pall over the pro wrestling federation this week, the show goes on. This week's episodes of WWE Raw and Friday Night SmackDown! have been turned into tribute shows for the 38-year-old wrestler, and THQ today announced that it has shipped the PlayStation 2 edition of WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006, as planned.
Guerrero is one of more than 60 wrestlers featured in the game, including current favorites like John Cena and Batista and WWE Legends like Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, and the Junkyard Dog. THQ also boasts more than 100 different match types for players to choose from and a new general manager mode that lets players take control of either of the WWE's top two shows, Raw or SmackDown!, as well as steal fans and ratings away from the other show through smart booking and savvy bookkeeping.
Another new feature for the series comes as a result of the game being released on the PSP. When that edition ships in December, grappling gamers on the go will be able to take their career mode data with them, make some progress on the road, and then return to pick up their careers on the PS2 where they left off on the PSP. The two editions will also be able to share championship belts, unlocked characters, and created wrestlers.
WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006 is rated T for Teen and retails for $49.99. Check back tomorrow for GameSpot's full review.
