The Witcher dev unveils Cyberpunk RPG

CD Projekt Red working on AAA role-playing game based on pen-and-paper system; The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings sells 1.7 million.
The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red has unveiled an all-new role-playing game based on Mike Pondsmith's Cyberpunk pen-and-paper RPG system. The game is currently in development by a second team at CD Projekt Red in Warsaw, Poland, by "seasoned developers."
Speaking about the project during its annual summer conference, CD Projekt Red CEO Marcin Iwinski said the new Cyberpunk RPG is a "dream come true." Firm details on the project were not made available, but Iwinski said the game will be a "mature RPG for mature audiences" that features "realistic and brutal" action in a futuristic universe.
Iwinski also said the new Cyberpunk game will boast a nonlinear narrative filled with "life and detail," as well as a varied selection of character classes. Lastly, the developer said the new project will sport an arsenal replete with weapons, upgrades, implants, and other high-tech toys.
No release window or platforms were named for the project.
Also during CD Projekt Red's conference today the company revealed that The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has sold more than 1.7 million copies across the PC and Xbox 360. On top of this, the game will arrive in Japan on August 23 and will hit the Mac this fall.

Well should be intresting to see more of. Witcher 2 was probably one of the best medieval time RPG I've played in the while I love the amount of choice it gave you and it sounds like they plan the same thing with this one with all the tech and whatnot.
Also the way these guys put together levels graphics I want to see what it will look like and what exactly they are planning I'd love a fleshed out metrohive city.

i love this...The witcher 2 sells 1.7 million and goes onto to make another amazing game.. 38 studios makes a pretty good arpg and sells 1.2 million shuts down entire office...

@nyran125 I'm not sure how 38 studios did it, but they had KoA budget to be 100 million dollars, and witcher 2 only cost 8 million. I can only guess that KoA took more than 5 years to do and over hundreds of staff, and witcher 2 progressed smoothly in 2 years or something.
Witcher 2 was something like 27-28 million PLZ or $8 million.
Dragon age 2, I read it was 25 mil.
Simply put it was the company's (38 studios) fault.
1 Like We all feel a bit pissed off by Bioware for Mass effect 3 ending and Dragon Age 2 failed experiment but Witcher and Witcher 2 are ok games .they dont hold the candle to Bioware games .They are just ok but nothing to write peans about,,..

@lulababy Oh god. Another BioDrone.... Please go away! Bioware has died when EA bought them and you can see with the quality of their games. The last good thing they made was Dragon Age: Origins.
Everything after is pure crap. DA2, ME3, SWTOR.

1 Like @lulababy They stand shoulder to shoulder with any bioware game. They are original, have their own lore and combat style. If anything we aren't getting "enhanced edition" as some crappy DLC.

Ah, nevermind, google search tells me the game (the pen and paper one) is called "Cyberpunk 2020." Looks pretty sweet, I'll definitely have to check it out.

i was like ... what ???? don't know about this .... but then , i was convinced , those guys are pure bombs , love their studios , they treat there fans well , they deliver amazing game .. i have to say witcher 2 was one of the coolest game i played in years .... so cyberpunk / bladerunner/ 5th element / ghost in the shell style game by them .... i believe they could make some real dope game, like they always do ...
Something worth following... I can't say I have any opinions yet... we'll see what upcoming months or years bring!

After all the awesome work they did on RED while porting The Witcher 2 on the Xbox360 I do hope they will continue to release future games on consoles!

@AgentZirdik Deus Ex doenst involve low life, only the high tech part of cyberpunk's concept. The main character is part of a Megacorporation, and doesnt involve the daily-life troubles usual to cyberpunk style. But what is indisputable is that Deus Ex is not a RPG
1 Like @weaslerz How was Deus Ex: Human Revolution not cyberpunk. It was a technological but dystopian near future with cybernetics, hacking, and mega-corporations. It's the very definition of cyberpunk!
