The Witcher 2 hitting Xbox 360 April 17

CD Projekt Red's action role-playing game arriving on Microsoft's console nearly a year after it first shipped for the PC.

The original Witcher was announced for consoles, but it was never released. The same fate won't befall its sequel, as Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced that The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will hit the Xbox 360 on April 17.

Announced over the summer with a release date pegged for the end of 2011, the action role-playing game was later delayed, before Warner Bros. scooped up publishing rights in October. The Witcher 2 for the PC won a strong critical reception upon its release in May and has sold over 1,000,000 units in its lifetime.

According to CD Projekt Red, The Witcher 2 for the Xbox 360 will come at "no quality compromise" compared to the PC version. Additionally, the developer said players can expect "the same experiences" on consoles as with the computer game.

The Witcher 2 is a direct sequel to CD Projekt's original and picks back up with professional monster-slayer Geralt following a failed assassination of Temerian royalty. Geralt then sets out on a quest to track down the king's attempted killers while continuing to pursue those responsible for murdering other witchers. The PC edition received a 2.0 update in September, adding an Arena mode, extended tutorials, a harder difficulty setting, and various other updates, all of which will be included in the Xbox 360 version.

    There is no PS3 version only 360 and PC. Can't wait until April. It's a shame that I will be starting my LSAT review classes the week this game comes out.

    So I might have missed the memo on this but is it safe to assume theres no PS3 version comming? I have both so it doesnt matter much. Still really excited for the game!

    No mention that it's the Enhanced Edition, and that new and existing owners of the PC version will also be eligible for the additional content as an automatic, free update.

    Yeah the first game was kinda different and quirky, the second almost Biowarian....

    Well, except for it's good looks.

    I don't agree that the PC release version was 'broken' however. What issues are you referring to? 2.0 was mostly a feature release with the new items/tutorial/arena ... I don't recall it being a huge bugfix.

    In my uninformed non-stakeholder opinion companies should forget about piracy, focus on making good products and be happy with the profits they get without getting hung up on the profits they MIGHT have got. Seriously the only thing you can do about piracy is throw more money down the hole with gymnastic DRM. Since DRM never works, those guys are the real thieves. I mean how many millions do ya think these publishers spend on a product THAT DOESN'T WORK.

    I stand by my words that this game has nothing on the original Witcher! I was beyond excited to play this game, but like I said, after Chapter 2, the game loses traction so badly that I didn't even care to finish the game. Thumb down all you want, but you'll see what I mean when you actually play the game. As for the horribly broken PC version, just look at what CDP had to say about it - they had to re-release the game as version 2.0 for it work, because, yes, the bugs were there. It's no surprise that the most valuable member of the team jumped ship.... this game is not as epic as the first!

    **BOYCOTT THIS GAME** - CDProjekt has been doing a shakedown campaign to fight off piracy of the PC game. The problem is that they're sending notices to people who've NEVER DOWNLOADED THE GAME and DEMANDING MONEY in excess of $1,000 or they threaten legal action. Google it if you don't believe me.

    Xbox 360 users, feel proud.

    TW2 is one of the best RPGs I'VE ever played, and i am happy that now you'll be able to enjoy this wonderful game.

    And even though this doesn't affect me, since i'm a PC gamer, i will still be hoping for a PS3 release.

    i don't care if TW series isn't PC exclusive anymore, i think This Game should be played by as many people as it can.

    Btw, if you seriously hate New Vegas (I assume since you so cleverly called it "New Vegarse", so intelligent and witty!), than join the damn club. I don't hate it, but safe to say it was a disappointment. Still better than Tactics and Brotherhood of steal, and the DLC was better than most of Fallout 3's.

    Fallout 2 may be my favorite game of all time just barely above MGS and Planescape: Torment, but Fallout 3 and New Vegas are amazing games... you're sarcasm is very flawed. Are you saying they suck? I've played the original too pal, and they get a pretty damn good pass, you're sounding like a jackass.

    The only complaint people have with those games is that the graphics are a little below average. They're not perfect by any means, but seriously? Whatever, hate Fallout 3 and New Vegas if you want, try and act "old school", but Fallout 3 is better than about 95% of most shooters out right now.

    There is more piracy on PC,but CoD isn't a good example,and same goes for every other annual franchise.On PC,when sequels offer no improvements,and are just annual rehashes like CoD,sales are minimal,since we PC gamers hold onto our games for longer ammounts of time(decade old games like Starcraft 1 and CS still active with strong communities),and don't want to pay for the same crap every year,espscially since we can't trade that crap back in when we get bored of it.That's why Madden was removed from PC,no one wanted to pay for annual roster updates,EA may blame piracy as much as they want,but they don't have anything other than their own lazyness to blame...

    Also,that 980 000 number doesn't include digital sales,and I think that is just US retail sales,so the real number is probably a bit larger,but still much smaller than console sales,true...

    And can you back up your "less gaming rigs in houses" argument with some facts,sources,etc?

    Im not saying PC gamers pirate games but look at the MW3 sales 360 13mil, PS3 10mil, PC 980 000, they certainly arent buying them. And why is it that there are less PC gaming rigs out there in peoples home?

    That is a game of numbers though, at least for high-end games anyways, as there are far less PC gaming rigs out there then there are consoles, that immediately gives consoles an advantage. Secondly if you want to talk about potential lost revenue from devs not getting paid for their work then consoles are just as bad as PCs due to the massive used game market. Now I am not calling used game purchasers pirates but devs lose quite a bit of money on used games which is why a lot of them consider used game purchasers to be pirates.

    1 way consoles are superior to modern PC's are the sales of games, pick any games and watch console sales destroy PC's, but i mean what do developers care about sales.

    And i'm pretty sure the best console to this date was the PS2, it's a fact. It had the largest library of sucessful games, did more than most of it's competitors at the time, was reliable, had a very long cycle, and was one of the top selling consoles of all time, alongside the Wii, which only sold so much because it was aimed at a casual market.

    And you still haven't answered to me how is the XBOX360 superior to a modern PC?

And the guys thumbing me down well i think they probably are some of those which u can call 360 ELITEST who bi#$h about anything said against their beloved console and, then they say that PC players are ELITEST.

    @Alex_09 Microsoft did not buy exclusive rights to the Witcher 2. It's just easier to port it to XBOX from PC. CD Projekt does not have any experience with PS3 yet. Actually TW2 is going to be their first game on XBOX as well.

    Actually Witcher 2 wasn't that forgiving to weaker PC's... My graphics card is an 8600 GT, so playing Witcher 2 was pretty much killing it. It still looked amazing, but rendering and load times took ALOT, and the game itself moved in-between 20-30fps, and that was on LOW settings.

    Witcher 2 is a peak-graphics game on all fronts, and it sure does weight like one (14 Gigs don't just dissapear, y'know).

    I also agree onDark Souls, it's a great fit on console games, but it won't sell well, and that game actually had SOME marketing. Though i'm pretty sure it sold much more on PS3, since alot of PS3 users are more involved with this kinda game, and the fact the prequel is available to PS3 got it some recognition prior to release.
    I think Dark Souls will make a huge income if it will come to PC. Because PC is a slow, yet steady market. Consoles are mostly about buying what's new and hip-- a year later you could find these same games in the bargain bin. PC however, actually increases it's sales as time goes. Did you know that one of the top-selling games on Steam, even more than Skyrim or MW3, was actually Age of Empires 3, a game released well over 6 years ago?? I think Dark Souls deserves that spot just as well.

    If it looks stunning on low than I probably can't run it on low either.

    I just know my PC won't ever generate graphics to match those seen in the X360 demonstration. Even when I bought it new it always had performance and graphic issues. For example I should have been able to run Dragon Age 2 on it, but a weird graphic issue made the textures of the faces stretch across the entire screen when a conversation started.

    X360 version has fine looking graphics, it is enough for me. Graphics aren't all that important, as long as a machine has enough power to give game designers the option to generate a nice atmosphere on screen. Judging by the demonstration there is enough details in the X360 version to do justt that.

    for those of you who think the Gamespot 360 community itself is a good representation of the amount of people who play 360 or follow 360 games; is an absolute joke.

    The amount of people who play console games hardly use the internet to research the games they're buying, as a whole, being 35-45%. Gamespot itself is a VERY small chunk of that percentage.

    Thats like saying, every user that plays MMO's communicate and/or write on an official (or unofficial) forum; about said MMO. Which is obviously false... seeing as; again; 35-45% of the MMO community actually uses the forums, depending on the MMO.

    Ask yourself this... why was GoW so successful?? Not only cause it was a good game, but mainly, cause they threw HEAPS of funds into their marketing program. Sadly Witcher 2 wont sell nearly as well, mainly cause of that... even though its a better game, to certain people.

    @ronnet if u r able to run the PC version even on low i think u wud be getting a better than the xbox360 one as even on low this game looks stunning also if u buy the PC version before april u wud get the enhanced edition upgrade for free.

    The only BAD part about this news is that I was JUST about to start playing through Witcher 2 again. Since the PC is getting this updated version in April, this probably means I'll wait for the update until I start. That's okay though, I'm still on Act IV of Witcher 1 (my third playthrough). The Witcher games are just utterly fantastic. I'm glad CD Projekt did a PC game first and then ported it to the X-Box, like it should be done.

    I have the Special Edition of the PC version. I love the dice that were included in the set. The art book is also really fantastic. The Geralt Statue was sort of "eh". The Necklace looks awesome. Of course the GAME is fantastic.

    Still, one can always hope for the best. It's probably because of CDPR's firm stand on DRM-free games that I say this (apart of course from the fact that I believe Witcher 2 to be an amazing game), but I really hope it does well on the 360, despite being a PC-heavy gamer myself.

    Everything else aside, Witcher 2 is an absolute must-play in my opinion, and 360 users would be missing out terribly if they didn't give it a spin, wouldn't you agree?

    PC version sold over 1,5 million copies,also the game is well optimized,and will work on weaker PCs too,you don't need monster rigs for good gaming experience on PC,not everyone aims for the top...

    Its no big secret console games almost never sell well if they don't have strong ad campaing backing them(for example,Alan Wake,Dark Souls),and Witcher 2 doesn't have one,no ads at all,also since Witcher 1 wasn't on consoles,that will affect sales too.No streamlining or instant gratification crap will play its part too,as I said,I predict no more than 500,000 copies,on consoles,Witcher 2 can be considered a niche title,and they don't sell well...

    Have you seen the "Dark edition" of Witcher 2? It contains the freakin' Witcher amulet! Wish they release it on PC, too, since I'm already planning to buy Witcher 2 for PC
