Naughty Dog says upcoming action game will be "definitely" more than 12 hours; no single-player DLC in the works.
"We're definitely looking at more than 12 hours; maybe 12 to 16 right now is what we're looking at," Naughty Dog community strategist Arne Meyer said. "It really depends on how you play. You can play a little bit slower if you try to approach situations stealthy. If you really wanna explore the environment and scavenge, that's going to add more time, too."
Meyer also answered a question about downloadable content for The Last of Us. He revealed that Naughty Dog is developing only multiplayer-focused expansions, not any single-player add-ons. This is not much of a departure from the developer's recent behavior, as no entries in the Uncharted series included any story-based expansions.
The Last of Us was previously scheduled to arrive May 7, but last month was delayed five weeks to a June 14 launch exclusively for PlayStation 3. Naughty Dog explained at the time that due to the "massive" nature of the game's story, the extra development time was needed to "ensure every detail" was up to the developer's standards.
A demo for The Last of Us is in the works, with owners of God of War: Ascension receiving first access.

A tad disappointed... I was really expecting upwards of AT LEAST 25 hours :/
Still gonna get it though, it looks amazing.
They tend to say games they develop are longer than they are in reality. I'd imagine (guess) 8 hours for the average gamer.
Remember when it took an age to complete one Tomb Raider level because you had to actually figure stuff out?

I want my money's Elegy. 12 - 15 sounds cool. I don't know how they come up with these numbers It always takes me 3 to 2x longer.
Doubt it. I think it's gonna be around 8-10 hours. Developers like to exaggerate the length of their game.
12-16hours seems pretty short. Same with Uncharted played trough it once and thats that. This kind of Games have no replay value. If only the gameplay would be fun but no, it's pretty medicore at best. I have no problems with games that are short like, let's say MGR, because the gameplay is a blast. Then i will replay them over and over, but this new breed of action movie like games who focus on story and scripted spectacle is not enough for me.
Unfortunately, the game length is going to move this into a sale-buy for me. I'd intend on only playing it single player and paying regular price for that much gameplay doesn't compete well against the many other games I play (or intend on buying) that last much longer. That's not a failing of the game, though; it's just a personal preference on my part. Hope it works out well.
I know their saying there be no single player DLC but it won't last long either during the holidays this year or early next year Naughty Dog will come out and tell their fans that they decide to add single player DLC to the last of us
I just took my time and finished TR (short) but good ! that was I guess around 10 hours ? ...I was hoping TLoU would be around 15 hours "or" more , but , knowing what I know about ND this will not make me disappointed as long as all the time goes into the creation of Single Player I will be a happy guy ! ...
Wow, all this hype for 12 to 15 hours of gameplay! This better have a Hell of a multiplayer system. Also, naughty dog does not rule!!! Steam Rules, real games at half the price with better graphics is REAL GAMING!!!! Did i mention Half the PRICE or LESS! Definately worth 30 bucks, NOT $65....... Still Balling on NBA 2k 13. Oh, not knocking Naughty dog and the work they put in, i just think people will be let down when they realize it's just another good game.... Let me know what you think please.... (yes, i'm still happy about this game )!!!! just not bugging out about it.
At least with a short (but great) game you can complete it and then trade it for practically the same price you paid for it! Besides, I'd rather play a short and sweet game rather than an endless slog where after a few hours I start losing interest.
Games always take me forever to complete due to my avoidance of 'run and gun' tactics.. so this is only good news to my ears!
Cannot wait for this game. Naughty Dogs are my fav! :)
I remember looking at my old games when they began spanning against multiple discs and lasted dozens of hours. These days the developer says a game will last about 10 hours and acts like he's doing us a favor. 12-16 hours isn't bad, but I'm sure most of us will complete the game easily under that timeframe. If he said 24-30 hours, then I'd be impressed.
@sjawz3288 Even resident shitty evil 6 was far longer than 16 hours. Of course it all sucked but you know.
That's pretty short, but then again length isn't everything. Sometimes the best games are the shortest ones
Even though I love them, I've stopped buying shooters as I'm sick of short campaign games. They're just a rip off, especially seeing as I don't do online multiplayer. 12 hours is the absolute minimum that any game should be.
When it comes to most games I usually expect 10-30. For a game like Skyrim/Fallout it usually comes to 100-150 hours
It depends on the game genre but an average of 20+ hours (& harder difficulty tends to take a little longer), if too long then the ideas tend to dry up and the game just gets repetative ...
18+ I don't know why these people complain that the game is short...all depends on how you play it! If you play on normal and don't explore then you'll run through the game in under 10 hours... Mgs4 was a 8hour game yet I took 22hours since I looked for every weapon and watched every cutscene...crysis 2 can be finished under 3 hours if you just focus on the main objectives...
The genre doesn't matter if it's a good game the longer the better the time will fly anyway you won't realize how much time you spent playing.
They said that it'd take you a lot longer to complete it if you take your time to explore the apocalyptic world
