The HotSpot hosts Game Developers Choice Award finalists Bastion, Dead Space 2, and Little Big Planet 2 to talk designing great audio.
Can you hear that? No? Maybe a little bit? OK, well that's the sound of a few pieces of paper being rubbed together over a cymbal crash in a remote village on the border of Uzbekistan. And also, overlayed on top of all that, are the voices of Bastion's Darren Korb, Dead Space 2's J. White, and Little Big Planet 2's Kenny Young. All three games are up for Game Developers Choice Awards, and Tom Magrino does his best to figure out what all the noise is about.
Wouldn't it be cool if all of these GDC podcast videos were cobbled together in one place? Oh my god that's actually something that has happened!
I really dont understand why people wanna rent games who are only 7 dollars if you buy them like dead space, just go to the official site like the Origin or for games like darksiders THQ and you see that those games are really cheap
I personally thought Dead Space 2 and Battlefield 3 had the best sound design, so I'm glad at least Dead Space is here.
@Magrino Following an excellent interview with that Mass Effect guy with this GDC series is brilliant work. How did you get all these guys in the same room? The dialogue/music on Bastion is so gorgeous and the Dead Space 2 audio is very well designed - creature effects and ambient sounds esp. Haven't played LBP.
The thing some of you guy are forgetting/ don't know is that Dead Space had a professional team to do the sound design, Bastion had one guy. Still both awesome.
I think dead space derserve.it had super sound design and that was the only thing make the game horrible.
Dead Space all the way, the other games were good as well, But the sound for Dead Space is just amazing imersing the player into the game. IMO Dead Space surpasses RE in survivial Horror Genre, can't wait for DS 3, Biggest mistake DS made was creating a new game for only one platform, i.e Extraction a prequel to a console that doens't have the orginal game. Either way any of these three deserve to win ,but my vote is for Dead Space
@anne_1230 Yeah, it's a low-priority bug, unfortunately. You can find the HD video by clicking the "Comment on this video" button.
If the rest of this week's podcast are as good as this one I'm gonna be super happy. A good look into how they do things and I like the admiration you can sense that they have for their peers in the industry. This was a great idea Magrino!
Not trying to put down the others, but Dead Space seems like a MUCH greater accomplishment just due to the type of game.
I haven't listened to this yet since I'm listening to the Bombcast right now, but all I can say is... DEAD SPACE IS AMAZING! It deserves whatever award it's nominated for.
Wow I did not realize that the dead space tram is from BART when I played it (bay area resident here). I just went on youtube to watch a video and I can more or less make it out in the background. That's so cool :D On unrelated note, HD doesn't seem to be working o.O
